34:00 - one overlooked aspect of necromancers is the fact that combined with graveyards, they make for very effective anti-tank-laming defenses. As tanks are clunky, and graveyards are fairly cheap blocker buildings that just so happen to spawn corpses that can be turned into skeletons to further clog up the base.

@@Igorsov Vampiric at least has some use case with frenzy ghouls. Not common, but kinda ok with specific army compositions. Trueshot aura is arguably the reverse, except nelf have good ranged units tier 1.

One thing about Banshee's possession, it also gives you any research related to the unit you capture. (Assuming this hasn't been patched out since I've played) So if you were playing another Undead player who had completed more research for weapons and armor, or unit specific research like disease cloud, possessing a unit would instantly grant you all that research.

I dont play the game, and I dont necessarily will take this tier list like a bible of sorts but what I like about these types of videos are the explanations as to why they belong in the category you put it in. Really cool to learn stuff like hex not giving exp in the other video.

I started and finished this videogame for the first time this year, and although I probably won't play PvP because my goal is not to perfect my gameplay but to play as many and varied games as possible, I like to watch your videos to see the correct operation of units and heroes since the campaign, although it is not exactly accessible, often does not demand that you know and manage all the peculiarities and skills in order to be completed. For example, I never really understood how useful (or useless) it can be to collect corpses with those catapults.

Infernal is such a bad unit. If I had to choose between having 15 ghouls or 15 infernals in the early game? I would take 15 ghouls. I think you should make a new F tier for the infernals, Grubby. Their counter is so easy. How to counter infernals: 1. Get 2 or 3 workers. 2. Have the workers gather water in buckets. 3. Throw the buckets of water at the infernal and the infernal's flames will go out. (Infernals don't work without their fire.) Easy.

The infernal is such a KOOL unit. I remember choosing a warlock to play in WoW just because of the infernal in the trailer. Chaos damage, heck yeah, amazing. Just arriving is a stun, really cool. Magic immune. Lasts pretty much forever. Can attack trees- Imagine that. And last but not least- It's better than a demon hunter, because the immolation lasts the whole 180 potential seconds it's alive.

Grubby I've followed you since 4k, but to see you do Tier lists...is really different (but good) content. I thoroughly enjoy it, I think mainly because it gives a very succinct breakdown as to what you feel is good or not, rather than having to watch hours/days of replays to get nuggets of insight.

Maybe I'm crazy but a cool idea for the frost wyrm would be to give it a 0 mana lvl 1 frost armor ability, might be too strong but if taurens can be tier 2 anything is possible. It would solve all the issues you brought up. 1. Survivability ✅ 2. Value from only getting 1 ✅ 3. Not impactful enough for end game ✅ 4. Can't be used outside of close range ✅ Also 5. On theme "cool" ability ✅

Expanding on Shade's discussion, I find them immensely more valuable in WC3 vs their SC1 counterpart (Observer) because unlike SC1, Detectors aren't nearly as ubiquitous in the field in WC3. All Zerg Overlords (their primary Supply source) are Detectors. Terrans get the godly ComSat station at Tier 1.5.Even Protoss, who have it the worst out of all three core races for early detection, get Photon Cannons at Tier 1.5, and can be deployed by one Probe in a pinch. (or in a push as part of a Photon Rush) Shade has some competition, but it's nowhere near as intense in magnitude. Far Seer gets Vision, Huntresses get their Hooters, and eventually, Towers get Detection. (no more Beetle spam, Burrowed Beetles used to do this too). But in the field, Shades are incredibly difficult to actually stop in the recon war. Dust of Revealing requires suspicion and lots of map-specific game knowledge about likely Shade usage early on, and knowing where creeps, expansions, and what your opponent is building is such an enormous part of WC3 that I honestly think Shades belong in Tier A for undead.

5:00 I used to always go Chimera Gryphon riders as night elf back in 2003 so that probably makes sense why I guessed about where abomination would go even though I haven't played this game competitively for like 20 years lol And for Frostwyrms I personally have always seen them as like a flying catapult/base breaker/building sniper unit. I would back them up with Gargoyles and just fly behind bases and snipe specific buildings. But if games don't last as long anymore I could for sure that being a really bad strat now.

IIRC before some of early TFT patches AMS (as well as other magic immunities) prevented healing so there was also an offensive way of using it since it is (was?) also castable on the enemy targets? Or is my memory playing tricks.

I played this game and i was very bad at it, my favorite one was wyrm, that explains a lot. As i remember, they cost 7 food and you need to upgrade your main building twice to even make them only to get absolutely annihilated by spiders net hahahaha

Frost Wyrms can be used to completely freeze an enemies base. Not that it will ever work, but if you micro you can freeze two buildings at once with a single Wyrm. Still not the best unit but niche usefulness

I remember that my strategy of beating wc3 Champaign was to go 3 meat wagons 6 necromancers and 2 statues, permanent invinite utin production (free - there is no need for a gold mine)

Interesting, my favorite undead unit is actually banshee. If matched with top micro skills, undead builds with banshee can possibly counter most late game builds. As a lot of high burst DPS builds comes from magic attacks. Banshees are support units that protects abominations, fiends and heroes. The can also instantly immobilize opponents' units. I am not surprised banshees are nerfed so many times.

I think it would be cool if they added a hook like ability for aboms like in dota, or they give them a passive bleed ability that when stacked (from abom attack) 5 times deals a certain amount of damage say 300 and a slow effect (cuz they bleeding) and damage they ofc need to balance the effects but it would be nice to see as I like that unit.

12:00 due to math errors in the PRNG system WC3 uses, there are variations from given % procs to actual (iirc 15% Crit is actually 14.9%). Iirc the PRNG table also only has values for every 5%, so values like 33% are rounded down to 30% for starters. Iirc the realized % for 30 is 29.7. Not too inaccurate, but certainly shy of the advertised 33%.

Saw this *after* the NE and Human tier lists and...*wow*....did not expect Undead to have not one, not two, but *three* non-worker tier S units. Human has 1 with spellbreaker (I feel like that should be A) and NE with one with Dryad (that I DEFINITELY don't agree on S placement b/c a couple of mortar teams and "uhhh, where did my dryads go?"), but undead just seems to have an amazing set of units all around. Seems wyrms, like Chims, could definitely use a buff. 300 -> 400 range seems reasonable, along with freezing breath making their slow attack splash. As for wagonmancer, it can absolutely demolish a night elf, especially when paired up with Lich and Dreadlord (so FFA) because you just load up a few wagons with corpses and then wham bam, instant army. Also, I find it...kind of flabbergasting that although NE is *allegedly* supposed to be the race that's the *ranged* master, as it turns out, Night Elf is the race with the best *MELEE* (bears), while Undead, who's supposed to be about mass summoning zerg-style, is actually the race with by far and away the best tier 1 ranged unit. That just...doesn't sit well with me ;(. One other thing--Necro in C tier, Wyrm in D tier but...frenzied wyrm? Might be worth thinking about, ya know? But yeah, human antiair vs. frost wyrms is *rough*.
