Same. I’m not quite sure why many people don’t like those classes, I personally liked both because of the freedom and time you get. Also my teachers were great at teaching how to write well and formulate interesting ideas. You also just get a lot of practice with reports because of how many you read and write. IMO, they are at least B tier classes.

AP comp sci principles might be the easiest AP class of them all. It teaches the basic knowledge of how computers work and how the internet works. And you get an introduction to coding in multiple languages starting from zero which is great for anyone who wants to try it for the first time. You also learn how to think about code by using what the college board calls "psuedo-code". Overall I think its a very beneficial class for anyone who wants an introduction into computer science, and its a class that will definitely help boost your gpa. 10/10 would recommend.

AP Human Geo is good for analysis and it's interesting because it's basically teaching you an understanding of how the world functions and how it is able to grow, but it's also a lot of content and can be a pain. Knowing things like the DTM and Pop Pyramids are cool but it's still a lot of content. I'd recommend the class as an intro into AP Classes tbh.

Because AP Japanese is so uncommon, I just want to add my insight on it. Why is Spanish such a popular foreign language class to take? One of the reasons is that it’s so applicable. In the US, there’s so many people who speak Spanish that it’s very practical to use, and even learn outside of the classroom. As with any other language, you really need that practice in order to become fluent. The problem with AP Japanese is that aside from your classroom, and your anime and manga if you take the time to enjoy them, there isn’t much opportunities to really branch out for Japanese. Speaking in Japanese for me has been difficult because I haven’t had sufficient practice; who else can I talk to but my teacher? I’m fortunate enough to have a Japanese teacher - she’s among my favorite teachers. But before you decide to do Japanese as your foreign language, please consider the opportunities you have. There are always going to be online resources to help, but a textbook won’t help you in terms of listening or speaking - and that’s on the AP Japanese exam. You have to be sure that you want to take AP Japanese because you have a keen interest in it. It’s still a difficult class because it’s so much different from all the other AP foreign language classes, besides Chinese, which has similar difficulties to Japanese. You will learn about a ton of Japanese culture in the class, which is fun, but then you’re struck with the fact that you have to memorize a ton of kanji, most of which have multiple meanings and sometimes different pronunciations in different contexts and then know a lot about grammar. Japanese grammar comes easy for some but a mess for others - it’s been hard for me because, to me, it’s like making a sentence in English but backwards, and it messes up my thinking process a ton. AP Japanese requires a lot of discipline to succeed, and you must be confident in speaking, reading, writing, and listening to do well on the exam. I recommend the class only for those who really want to do Japanese and have been practicing it for years, since most people who take AP Japanese are in their 4th or 5th year of studying Japanese. I won’t sugarcoat it - it’s a lot of work, but remember that it’s an AP class - you can’t expect College Board (ew) to go easy just because it’s Japanese. TL;DR - Don’t take Japanese just to be different. Take it if you are interested in it. Then, if you are still interested in it and feel confident enough to take the leap from a regular or honors class, go to AP. With enough dedication, even though the workload is fairly heavy and the content can become overwhelming, you will do well on the exam. (Please remember that this is my opinion - others may have found Japanese easier than I have) Good luck to anyone who decides to take Japanese!
@chantetm4405
@chantetm4405 2 жыл бұрын
Took AP Japanese this year. Can confirm everything said here. I’m lucky that the city I live in has a large population of Japanese speakers, so I’ve had a good amount of practice speaking the language outside of class, but for most places, it’s gonna be hell to do so. Also, the amount of kanji you are expected to know is around 400-500. If you aren’t able to read the characters/use enough context clues, good luck. Not sure if the other language courses are the same, but our exam is formatted into Reading MC, “text conversation”, Essay Writing, “Speaking Conversation”, and Speaking Essay. All these combine to make a test that’s pretty difficult if you don’t prepare for the exam properly.

I'm going to take AP 2-D Art next year, so while I don't know exactly from personal expirence, my school underfunds the art department and only hired like three art teachers, so my portfolio class is mixed with AP, so I'm friends with a lot of the AP kids and know the teacher, so I have limited knowledge of the class, though some of this information might not be 100% accurate, thus take it with a grain of salt. To answer your question about the differences between the three AP Art classes (not including history) AP 3-D art is self explantory, but AP Drawing is a more restricted version of AP 2-D in terms of what you can do, as you are limted to drawing as medium while 2-D is more broad and allows you to use any 2-D medium (While im not 100% sure, I think digital is also allowed). As for the content of the course and what it's really like, well to say the least, it sounds stressful, which if there is one thing i can say with confidence about this class, ONLY TAKE IT IF YOU ARE REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT ART. I think everyone views it through the lens of an Art 1 class, where it has a super chill vibe where you talk to your friends, It's an easy A because as long as you try! NO. First off, there is no "As long as you try" philsophy in this class, there is a certain level of experience and skill expected of you, it needs to be professional and college level art. Second, you may be wondering, "what would the AP exam be?" Well, the entire class is the AP exam, you have to create a portfolio of 15 art works, (which lucky me, because it used to be 25) and they must all fit your "investigation", which I think is like a specfic theme that correlates to answering a specific question, (may be wrong on that one), and the grades in the class are determined by meeting deadlines on your artwork, and unlike mosr art classes where the deadline is very lax, in AP the deadline is the deadline, which can cause you to rush your artwork, which if you know anything about art, you know it takes time, and you can't rush it, otherwise people will be able to tell you rushed it. When its time to submit your portfolio you have to post pictures of them on the college board website with a description of what you used, a description of the piece and how it relates to your investigation, and even though you've submitted it online you also need to send them some of the works themselves to which they won't give it back to you until July. So yeah, like i said this isn't from experience so some of it may not be verified information, but this is the general jist of the class of gotten from things the AP Students and Teacher have said.

The ap art classes are kinda a psyche out because on one hand you think they’re really chill and awesome because you’re just making art for the whole year, and then you end up crying in April because you’ve made 13 out of the 20 artworks you need by the end of the year and is slowly resigning yourself to a life of selling postcards on the streets of Paris

Also AP Human Geo is incredibly easy. My teacher quit at the end of the 1st quarter, and then she had a TA who continued teaching us until January, then she also quit. Also this was during COVID, so all online. Ended up not having a teacher all of 2nd semester, very few assignments assigned by the other teacher (Because she now had about 300 kids to grade and teach basically, with 75% of those kids being online, and not assigned to her), so I didn't learn over half of the information, but I still passed the exam so.

Honestly, the capstone courses aren’t horrible. It’s a lot of self-paced stuff, and your options for topics for the portfolio are seemingly endless, but I’m gonna mark down Seminar cause there’s a mandatory group project, and the personal paper and presentation have to have at least one source that the College Board gives you. Both are also focused on different kinds of research. Seminar is more focused on secondary research, whereas Research is primary research If you are taking Research, good luck and remember to not make your topics super broad. Have a niche to fill, and make sure you enjoy the topic because you have it for the whole year and changing things up midway through is just so much hassle it’s not worth it

I don’t understand how calc AB is higher than BC. BC is the same class but also covers calc 2 for stem majors. The curve on the exam is high and a lot of people get 5s. BC is definitely better than AB

my ap world history teacher disappeared halfway through first semester, we jumped through multiple different teachers, made it a lot more difficult. Calc BC was fun but kind of hard. Computer Science A was funny bc my teacher most likely hated men (woman teacher)

So far ive taken 4 in my junior year. I just took the ap tests including lang and mech on the same day... APUSH is fun and interesting material imo the work that goes into dbqs is just pain but dbqs are pretty rare so id give it a B. Lang Comp I just found boring and useless but I blame my teacher rather than the material, it was inoffensive just annoying I'd give it a C. Mech was just the fun type of challenging, since my class was curved pretty generously I wasn't that stressed out by it, I'd give it an A. I'm a math freak(I'm planning on taking 4 math classes my senior year) and my BC teacher is by far the best teacher I've ever had the class has been extremely fun S++.

I feel that for Mech, as difficult as it is it’s basically just a lot of figuring out how things work

Ok man I get you like history but saying history is more important than calculus is a bit questionable. Calclulus is applied to so many scientifc fields of study and not just advanced stuff, like basic structuresvyou enjoy to walk on without having stuff collapse on you used calculus based engineering. Then you are on a device engineered by a computer scientist.

@@_mark_3814 you cannot interpret politics, current events, and just the world around you to the fullest without a solid foundation in history. Classes like AP Human geography are only useful because they give you a good foundation to actually interpret and comprehend histories

Here’s my input on the classes that I took AP World: Meh, just memorizing events and too much notes AP Bio: Hell no. I hate this class. Terrible. The moment you start to understand something there’s a whole new process and 20 other things that all have names you have to memorize. Terrible. No way I passed the exam APUSH: loved this class imo. It might have just been that my teacher was awesome, but it was such a fun class. Apes: the easiest class imo. Legit such an easy class. A lot of it should just be common sense. Sure there’s a lot to memorize, but it’s all easy. The exam this year was sooo easy, legit. Like I know people have struggled with it, but I found it super easy.
