@@ovadyarachman7243 I mean, like the comment I made explains, the others have good cameras as well but discord was glitching or something and walts the one hosting the stream so that’s why he didn’t have any issues with his camera. To be fair though June’s camera does suck lol

@@Radarssbm Is there a better program that you can share your webcam and jump in a call in that doesn't hurt the cam quality as much? This seems like a fairly common problem in discord. I don't remember skype being that bad, but I also haven't used it in a really long time. Doesn't really matter to me, as I mainly just listen, but just throwing it out there!

Great episode! I feel as it might have started off a little slow, but it soon picked up quite a nice pace. The dynamic between the four of you was nice. It was really interesting to hear the different opinions, ranging from a more casual player point of view, to one top players might have, and it was especially cool to have Junebug's insight as someone with more experience with custom stages (and modded stuff in general). Also, it was cool to see some gameplay in the video. I definitely prefer to try to stay more on the podcast-y style, but the subject kind of lent itself to have some game footage, so it wasn't really an issue. Thanks for the awesome content as always! Can't wait for the next podcast.

I just hit about 1:10:00 in the video, so maybe you talk about this more later on. I noticed few comments on blast zones. I am curious about how even if a stage layout is good, the blast zones can make or break the stage. I would like to see some sort of stage a bit more like FOD for floaties, with narrow blast zones and a higher ceiling like Rockwall from Rival's of Aether, as a sort of opposite of Pokemon Stadium. I also really enjoy Treetop Lodge from Rival's of Aether (very small stage, two different platform heights, and very large blast zones). I am curious on your thoughts on those stage layouts if they were implemented into Melee.

But we have fiddled with characters, we nerfed IC's - regardless of if it's good or bad?
@Radarssbm
@Radarssbm 4 жыл бұрын
Banning a technique is not the same as directly changing a characters frame data. Also by this logic you could also say banning the freeze glitch or pound stalling or peach bomber stalling is “fiddling with characters” but no one thinks those count lol?
@CeilingPanda
@CeilingPanda 4 жыл бұрын
 @RadarSSBM I'd imagine most people don't think those count because most people agree that it's the best for the game. Changing frame data or banning technique results - in the end both options remove options from a character. Not saying it should be in the game, but removing Wobbling is removing a "super good too polarizing kill move" while Freeze glitch makes the game end on the spot and was a way more controvesial move at the time. Why were shine infinites not banned on stadium when Wobbling were banned? The outcome is the same, one player game, timer runs down ends in kill. It's only on one stage and sometimes, but it's pretty similar.

Idk why IBDW said that Marth is a floaty but Sheik isn't. Marth has higher base fall speed (which is what is used during hitstun). Sheik has higher gravity which makes her get to her fastest base fall speed faster, and she is heavier so she doesn't get knocked back quite as far, but overall she's very close to Marth in where she gets sent during a combo. Playing her she feels more like a fast faller because her fast fall is much faster than Marths (being between Falcon and Falcos base fall speed). But yeah idk I wouldn't really call either of them floaties. They sit on the faster end if anything, they are more different from floaties than they are from fast fallers. PM that has a higher variety of fall speeds calls them "semi-floaties" and puts characters like Diddy and Roy who fall faster than them but not quite Fast faller level as "semi fast fallers". (Even semi floaty isn't that accurate. Marth is considered a semi floaty but is still the 11th fastest faller in PM) But regardless Marth and Sheik are still a fair bit off from real "floaties" like Puff, Peach, Samus, Luigi, Squirtle, etc.

hey guys - with regard to asymmetrical stages: would a less janky version of the grass transformation on stadium be a good example of an asymmetrical stage that could work, or be used as inspiration? Imagine if the tree was a stable plat and the little slants were gone, for example. That's the closest example I can think of for an asymmetrical stage that most melee players would have exp. with. Not a perfect stage by any means but it's the one thing that comes to mind. Loved the episode

(Outside of UCF) I’m personally against modding the game, as I think it almost goes against the “spirit” of the game. For almost 20 years now we have developed the meta around what we had. As soon as community bias is injected into the game in the form of new stages, this can alienate a demographic that plays the game, like GameCube players. If a nonstandard version of the game is required for tournaments, that could be potentially dividing. I also find it hard to believe that there could be any solution that doesn’t further divide the community. I enjoy the idea that the community has this busted game with broken characters, mechanics, and stages. In my eyes the game looses that specialness if the tournament standard includes modded stages. Frozen Pokémon stadium is its own beast in this case.
@Radarssbm
@Radarssbm 4 жыл бұрын
I feel like I directly address the "it would divide the community" argument in the video so I'm not sure why you're saying it would be a huge issue for the scene? Literally all tourneys use modded wiis anyway, and all of them run UCF mods. Ignoring the other points I bring up in the video, how can you argue that UCF doesn't create a divide/barrier, but stages would? Also, what makes Frozen stadium "it's own beast" in your eyes? If we ignore the technical reasons for it being on slippi, many players were asking for Frozen Pokemon Stadium for quite some time. If that's ok, why is adding stages not ok?

How could custom stages be a bigger barrier than ucf or slippi? If you already need to download dolphin and slippi to compete, stages aren't more difficult
