I agree with the Sixth Doctor's outfit being extravagant. At the same time, I love the silhouette. As for my favorites, Twelve and Four. Curiously, I have worn the Twelfth Doctor coat and Fourth Doctor scarf around New York City. One woman in a fur coat complimented my scarf asking what label it was.

The moment I saw this video, I thought, "I'm sending this to my dad." He does a lowkey closet cosplay of the War Doctor and he likes the Ninth Doctor's outfit because it's so easy to cosplay.

FINALLY! A video ranking the Doctor's impeccable ( and various ) dress sense.... plural. This is my ranking.....with a few exemptions, not bad exemptions, but....here it is: Basic but Contemporary: Christopher Eccleston's 9th Doctor, Grease was not just a word, it's an acronym....back in 2005 anyway. Basic but Contemporary, but Thoughtfully Planned: the late John Hurt's War Doctor ( the best of both worlds, honoring the Classic look, while looking Modern. ). Contemporary but Thoughtfully Planned, and Spruced Up: Matt Smith's 11th Doctor, his Seasons 5 and 6 looks are cool, but his final look from Season 7B made it cooler, even the bowties looked a whole lot better. Peter Davison's 5th Doctor, cricket inspired and giving Yellow and White a whole new perspective ( although that celery lapel...😐). Sylvester Mc.Coy's 7th Doctor, question mark sweater, an umbrella with a ? handle, and I think the Brown jacket look good on him than the Cream one ( never liked Rice Pudding, even if it's unlimited ). Contemporary, Thoughtfully Planned...and Iconically Cool: three Doctors fit the description. Tom Baker's 4th Doctor, the Scarf, whether it's multi colored or Burgundy, it's the Bohemian look redefined. David Tennant's 10th Doctor, the Brown or Blue Suits, striped or not, the long coat, and the White or Red Converse Shoes, he looks good ( even the late Peter Falk's Columbo look is reminiscent of Tennant's style ) and Jon Pertwee's 3rd Doctor, the frilly shirts, the capes and the Velvet Jackets, he rocked contemporary way better than any Polyester get up... I mean set up ( when you're 0-4 years old ( 1970-1974 ) you know squat, except for listening to Disco and Glitter Rock Music.... moving on 🤭 )... almost done here. Contemporary, Thoughtfully Planned.... Iconically and IDYLLICALLY Fashionable : Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor, the hoodies, those holey jumpers, the Red, Bluish Grey, and Black Coats....and those Dr.Martens, it's a paired down look with an upscale personality.....with a bit of a Rockstar attitude ( his birthday is this Sunday, not bad for someone turning 61! ) Jodie Whittaker's 13th Doctor, an iconic photo of a young woman wearing a t-shirt, trouser pants and boots was the inspiration for 13's look. Sometimes a Blue or Red shirt with a striped motif, and that beautiful coat makes it idyllically fun and fashionable. And finally.... Contemporary UNbasic, Thoughtfully Planned, Iconically and Idyllically..... OUT THERE: Colin Baker's 6th Doctor, his look was 100% Technicolor before Technicolor....or HD before HD was in the Blueprint stages. I'm an 80's baby and I wore crazy nail polish colors and the like at the time, and 6 somehow redefined the look very well ( although that bicycle was cool before Peleton was....you know, just saying ). I was born on March 29th, 1970 so Harnell and Troughton was two Doctors I didn't get to explore, let alone VHS copies of 1971's The Daemons and 1973's The Three Doctors that I have( it did help me out with Pertwee's Doctor though.....some 25 years LATER, mothballed and dusted like crazy. ). Thanks for the amazing video Who Chaser....aka Dominic. At least that did dust off the boredom factor for no new Doctor Who this year.... which we STILL have to wait until next year, hopefully next April since early Spring would be a key time to start Season 12 instead of next Autumn. Sorry for the long, long comment, but I had to do some rapid fire research and planning while watching this video...and I hope it was worth it. Well must dash....I mean hop on🐇....anyway, have a great Easter and keep on amazing us with your videos. Now I'm done....phew! 😉👋!

The fact that the 4th doctor tended to stick to an autumn color palette with his outfits results in the original scarf pulling the look together imo. It ends up feeling more like a statement piece than something thrown on at random.

I would rank Pertwee's cloak and frilly shirt over Tom's bohemian style as more extravagant any day. I think it'd turn way more eyes on the street

@Stormandfire5 жыл бұрын
Four's costume really is all about the scarf. Otherwise it would be way down with Ten and Eleven's costumes. (Even with though, I'd probably still put it down a rank or two.) I'd also probably put Eight and Twelve both a rank or two higher, because velvet. Also they both have some variety, even while sticking to the same general silhouette and palette. And I'd switch Seven and Thirteen around. Both definitely have themes, but Seven has patterns while Thirteen just has colour blocking. Chequered trousers and question marks are more in your face than rainbows, as much as I love the rainbow stripes. Also, a detail I love about Six's costume? The coloured pocket watch chain.
@DoctorRedivivus5 жыл бұрын
Another great video, Dom. Hmm, I suppose since both the Fifth and Sixth Doctors were mistaken for court jesters, the Fifth should probably move up the ranks. Rather than complexity, I'd go for how 'head-turning' the Doctor's outfit is: 14) Ninth Doctor 13) Twelfth Doctor 12) Tenth Doctor 11) Thirteenth Doctor 10) Second Doctor 9) First Doctor 8) Seventh Doctor 7) Eleventh Doctor 6) War Doctor 5) Fourth Doctor 4) Eighth Doctor 3) Third Doctor 2) Fifth Doctor 1) Sixth Doctor

Top three spot on. 4-9 fairly interchangeable. 10 could arguably be much lower given the costume is primarily just a suit. I understand the extremes of 11 which make him difficult to place. I would argue 12 should be higher purely because of the sheer range of costumes and mix and match he explored, albeit with an essentially down beat silhouette. The seventh Doctor's outfit is curious. Take away the jumper and replace with a waistcoat perhaps with a Paisley pattern and make the trouser check patten a bit smaller and you have a very tasteful outfit!
@Scyllax5 жыл бұрын
The Sixth Doctor’s costume was a success, I remember John Nathan-Turner said, for “being garish and without taste”. I knew the Bakers would be at the top.

I'd definitely put Jodie closer to the minimalist side, her costume is eye catching, but not hugely elaborate. I think I'd have Hartnell more elaborate than Smith, and Davison lower than Mccoy. I would say my own personal mimimalist-extravagant scale would be Christopher Ecclestone Jodie Whittaker Peter Capaldi Patrick Troughton David Tennant Matt Smith John Hurt Peter Davison Sylvester Mccoy Paul McGann William Hartnell Jon Pertwee Tom Baker Colin Baker It all comes down to our own personal parameters of what makes something elaborate or minimalist, of course. Like I see no neckwear as making something more minimalist, and regular ties being more simple than fancier ties and cravats, it's all about balancing these things out, so even though this is more objective than a ranking of "best" of anything would be, there's still enough room for interpretation to get an interesting variety of opinion.

Original: the 9th Doctor. Before the War Doctor debacle. Eccleston’s look is a fusion of Indiana Jones/U-Boat Captain. With the boots, v-neck and the leather jacket. He was all about running and action. Unfortunately, the Doctor/ Time Lordish look is missing. For Eccleston. He is missing a Colar shirt. Copycat Dull: Matt Smith’s tweed and bow-tie. ATTENTION Who Fans. The Bow-Tie has never been started by Smith. Troughton and Pertwee did it before Smith was ever born!!!! Hurt and Capaldi are cool Doctors but their outfits are ripped from both Eccleston and Pertwee. Still the two can pull it off much better then Matt Smith! WTF: as much complaints and controversy a casting of a female Doctor has brewed. The mish-mash get up Whitaker is sporting isn’t even close to what the Doctor wears. Remember Romana II’s first outfit in Destiny of the Daleks. She should have something like that!!!! Also The ugly t-shirt Capaldi wore in the Sorcerers’ Apprentice asked what is up with the Doctor’s taste in fashion???? Hoodies- something that is questionable in dress code especially in formal attired events. Somehow Capaldi pulled it off very well and currently Whitaker is wearing it so help me God. Absolute Classic. Troughton, Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, McCoy, McGann, Tennent. From the hobo frock coat, bow ties, velvet suits and cloaks, the Bohemian look with a dangerously long scarf, cricket suit, patchwork outfit only a Batman villain would wear, golf inspired outfit, Question Marks to the Riddler’s excitement. And the pin stripped suit with the overcoat. That is what the Doctor wears!!!!
