On fangraphs and baseball America which are probably the best websites for prospects Davis was ranked 2nd and now we get him underslot and now getting Solometo, Chandler and white to sign. Also seems like Marc values pitching more seeing this list

He’s a great pitcher but I’m totally fine with passing on him to get more talent. Catcher is also a big position of need for us because stallings most likely won’t be around by the time the pirates window hits. I definitely see your side though

Marc, I’ve seen Carson play and I play under his coach as well. He is unbelievable compared to his rankings. The rays evaluated his BP last month and would be thrilled if he fell to them and he ended up doing so. So much potential and he can also pitch. Watch out for him and don’t sleep on him

My nephew played his first college season at Sam Houston State with Colton Cowser this year and that boy can HIT also I have heard he is so nice and a great leader. I know a lot of people don't like that pick by the Orioles but I am hoping he shows everyone how great he can be!

As a Severna park native, you should know that right field fence is 27 ft tall and our version of the green monster. Jackson Merrill is legit. Thanks for showing support!

Marc, I went to Severna Park, graduated in 2013. yes, CF is very short there due to the softball field being right next to the baseball field which is then pushed up against a rather large pond. So CF is very short but they have that tall CF wall, similar to Columbia University. But Jackson shot up draft boards due to him being the best player on a team that was undefeated going into the state championship. They lost that game but Merrill was easily the biggest threat for SP and he is easily the best player to come out of the Severna Park area since Mark Teixeira and Gavin Floyd

Yeah i played there this year and someone on their jv team hit one out that would by a flyout on any other field but merrill really really good. He hit one that landed on the softball dugout there which is over that tall right field wall. Thats how good he is. And i believe josh hader also went to Severna park

Coming from the town over from severna park in MD. The center field fence at that high school is much longer than 300 ft. It’s a regular high school baseball field and dimensions jackson Merrill played very good baseball in a very good county on a legitimate baseball field

Jordan wicks is up there. I might be a little biased on Jordan because we know him. But this man is devastating. I watched him pitch throughout high school. And keep looking back on how Arkansas passed up on a great pitcher. And once again another favorite team passes him. The cardinals had a chance and they passed!

In my opinion (mariners fan) the pirates had the best pick because if they went with Mayer or Leiter they wouldn’t have been able to get Bubba Chandler and Solometo later. Henry Davis essentially got them other top 100 prospects

I played against Carson Williams this year since we’re both on good San Diego high school teams, kid can hit and sits around 94 on the mound. Not sure if u knew how good of a pitcher he is but the kid can flat out play.

From what I understand though, Williams has already explicitly said he wants to play as a SS only going forward (unless he fails as a hitter), which renders his pitching abilities kind of moot unfortunately.

There is absolutely NO comparison between Rocker and Leiter at this point of their careers. Rocker is hyped up by sports media for one reason and everybody knows what that is. In reality he was only about the 4th or 5th best pitcher in 2021 College World Series. Rocker has already maxed out his potential and has very little upside whereas Leiter will develop into a Greg Maddox type of guy that will be multiple time All-Star at least.

As a Mets fan, I don’t think the braves have necessarily struggled developing starting pitching. I mean they brought up Max Fried ( I understand this year he is faltering, but was really good the past two seasons) and mike soroka who if not injured would be lighting up the league and be a great ace.

I love Khalil Watson. Keep your eye on that kid. Otherwise, lots of great talent.....its just so hard to tell who will adjust to professional baseball and who wont. I think Kumar Rocker is good, but he has one big issue. I worry about his fitness. Fatigue has been an issue and he just looks like a guy who could put on a bunch of weight. Keep your eye on that.

I am a Pirates fan, so probably biased, but I think it was a toss-up between Leiter and Davis for the best prospect in the draft. The fact that the Pirates got Davis on an under slot deal to sign the rest of the high upside picks just makes the selection of Davis even better. If the Pirates manage to sign their top 4 and Braylon Bishop it will be without question the best haul of the draft.

Chase Petty should NOT be at 22. He has a high floor for a highschool pitcher because at worst you can throw him into the bullpen and tell him to throws as hard he can (101 and he’s 18) and at best he developes the slider even more ( as nasty as it already is) and the changup comes along to be as good as the slider is right now. 2 starter maybe even a ace on a non-contender

As a Tigers fan I saw so many fans cry about "wHy dIdN't aViLa tAkE mAyEr" but don't realize that he was gonna command a lot of money slot wise and our farm system needed some pitching depth badly outside of our top 2 or 3 pitching prospects. I won't be surprised if he's up by late 2023 or coming out of spring training 2024. People bitched about Riley Greene 2 years ago and he could be up now if we were competing for a wild card/playoff spot. I wasn't happy initially either, but after reading and watching what I saw I absolutely love the pick and can't wait to see him pitch.
