There are really two Def Leppards: the rock band before Rick Allen's accident and the pop band after. I give them a ton of credit for sticking together as a band and finding a way to become bigger than ever. One of the great stories in rock. For my money Pyromania is their magnum opus.

After Steve Clarke died, the band did for me really too. Sad that Joe Elliot was more worried about having a number one hit, rather than rock TFO! Def could've been the next Zep of the 80s! 😅 High N Dry will always be #1 in my book.

My top 5 would be 1. Pyromania 2. High and Dry 3. Hysteria 4. On Through The Night 5. Adrenalize . I didn't like Slang and I thought Songs From The Sparkle Lounge was a disaster. X is a good soft rock / pop album BUT it was quite a departure from the band's previous style of music.

High and Dry at number 10, Wtf? One of their very best if not their best, it’s an absolute classic. Most of those albums you ranked in front of it is kind of embarrassing really but hey, this is your channel and you can do what you like. Oh and include On Through The Night as well. Easily one of their best

Def Leppard’s albums from “on through the night” onward show more of an evolution of the band. I’m 46 and was about 13 when Hysteria came out. I cut up a pair of jeans just like joes in pour some sugar video. Wore them to school the next day… bad plan. My teachers weren’t ready for that style yet🤣

I wouldn't say "Evolution." Def Leppard and their 'Rock by Numbers' was never very deep. They just got more commercial and forgot how to Rock! Like Bon Jovi. They became CHICK ROCK. I never found Leppard to be rebellious, either. I recall so many lemmings wearing their Union Jack tees at the time. Punk Rock and Post-Punk was what was rebellious in those days.

On Through the Night - Was in 1980 and will always be my fav. There is no filler on that album. This was when the band was young and the writing was raw and from the gut. It was before they were super popular and totally less commerical which is one of it's strongest points. You need to listen to this album more Sean.

Good video! I remember when I was in college and Hysteria was released in America way back in July(?) 1987 with very little fanfare and the video Women was hardly being played on MTV. Then the video Animal was released and received a little more airplay on MTV. Then all of a sudden Pour Some Sugar on Me was released and that song and video was being played everywhere during the Summer on 1988 propelling the Hysteria album with every song and video being a hit then afterwards.

I think most metal enthusiasts agree that things really just changed so much from Pyro to Hysteria. The sound they left off with in Pyro lost its bite and energy with the obvious attempt to go full pop. One can only assume it was for $$ and also because Rick wasn’t going to be able to play like he did before. I can recall being a metal fan at the time Hysteria came out and thought, “what is this cheesy pop music “. It’s hard not to view Pyro as their high spot and HnD is very good also for the same reasons.

@@mattwitwicki1387 Agree. I don't mind some "good" well crafted "pop" music. But "Pour Some Sugar On Me" and much of Hysteria to be honest is everything that was bad about mainstream music in the late 80's. This is why we got Grunge. The overly polished production, the weak sound, and the complete lack of substance meant people got fed up with the garbage they were being fed.

But, with all due respect, you have passing grades in the School of Rock. I totally respect your Slang review. I also thought that Move With Me Slowly should have been on the album originally but then succumbed to the notion it wouldn't have sounded like the album tracks BUT, you could have said that about the title track.
