I remember reading the first DOAWK when I was in the 4th grade. As many elementary schoolers, the thought of moving onto a new building with new teachers, new students, and new scheduling, lack of recess, and more extracurriculars was both exciting yet scary. DOAWK served as a fun way to imagine wheat middle school would be like.

I remember reading a little bit of the first book, in 5th grade I did a book report on The Long Haul and Old School, and in 8th grade I read The Meltdown. I remember loving The Long Haul and Old School. I really wanna read Rodrick Rules to see the differences between that and the movie.

Honestly, I really hated No Brainer, it just represents every problem I have with modern Wimpy Kid, unrelatable, plots that make no sense, and pulling deus ex machinas out of the butt that serve no purpose except to throw away any potentially good future books for the status quo. And don’t gaslight me by saying, “Wimpy Kid IS A FICTIONAL SERIES IT DOESNT HAVE TO MAKE SENSE” because I read the first six recently and they still make a lot of sense. Granted, Cabin Fever was a little hectic with Manny freezing the rest of the family, but it was written at least to make sense and that’s nothing compared to the bs in later books such as a house getting destroyed by a wrecking ball, manny driving an rv, and people destroying walls in a school. I just hope we can get a final book where Greg can finish middle school, and maybe see him going to high school, I’m sure kids would be more than willing to read a book about Greg in high school, because the middle school well has pretty much dried up at this point.

Unfortunately Jeff Kinney won't do that. Your only answer is to reread the ugly truth since that's the closest to Greg growing up. I like no brainer but I do agree the book is just about how bad the school is and the school threatening to shut down because of low test scores. Spoiler alert It's funny that the back of the back summary happens at the very end and Greg doesn't even care about Rowley he's just happy that he's going to the better school than slacksville but Greg being the wimpy kid he's the one that goes to slacksville.

As a metalhead since i was like 14, Diper overlode is the best wimpy kid book imo. It dives deeper into the struggle of teenagers making metal bands and doing gigs together which i could relate to when i was in high school. Its a coolest concept so far in diary of wimpy kid series.
