Ranking Every Mad Max Movie

With the recent release of Furiosa, I went back to the beginning of the Mad Max franchise with the low budget indie movie that started it all in 1979! For the record, none of these are bad movies, I really like all of them. I just like some more than others. But let me know in the comments what your favorites are!

Can confirm, 20km from Sydney there is no coffee or internet (no lie big ex-public monopoly Telecom/Telstra). Probably doesn't do enough about dangereous wildlife kangsroos, snakes, spiders, feral dogs, drop bears etc

Good ranking, your not going to agree with mine.. but I truly feel the first 2 films portray Mad Max the best. 5. Beyond Thunderdome 4. Furiosa 3. Fury Road 2. Mad Max 1. Road Warrior

Great review. While my personal list would have switched 2 and 3; I fully respect your reasoning. After another viewing of Furiosa I may even agree with it.

I think at least it was inspired by 2000ads Judge Dredd Character in 1977 with the future cops dispensing wild justice and Indeed The Hall of Justice it's self. Then there was the leather and helmet thing also. Quite possibly.

Mad Max 1 is the greatest Australian movie ever made and one of my favourite movies ever.

Overrated. I'd say: 1. 2, it's aged poorly, but likely the most ground breaking 2. Fury Road, goddamn brilliant. Best one to watch. Most practical effects. Show me don't tell me. 3. Furiosa, underrated on pace and arc considering it's a life story. Most twists I've seen in a movie knowing how each plot point was going to end. A bit too hard on the CG compared to Fury Road. Anya TG was fucking brilliant. Didn't expect her to be that good. The mild romance was a very nice seasoning. You could probably guess they banged, but they imply they didn't more than they did. Dementus was a good intelligent villain. Must watch after Fury Road. 4. Mad Max 1 sucked. 5. Mad max 3. Never watched it.

Best thing about furiosa was afterwards I watched fury road again and it all made sense now.

I've definitely heard a few people say the same. Some were upset that it's a Mad Max movie without Mad Max, which I can kinda understand.

I liked the original 3 the latter fury road and furiosa do not interest me at all in fact I hated fury road so theres zero point in watching furiosa.

I thought fury road was incredible. Felt like Millers creation was fully realized with a bigger budget. Story and world building was extremely interesting. Visuals were great. The action was very well done. Excellently paced. Just all around very entertaining imo. I couldn’t really get into the 2nd film in the same way (road warrior), although I do appreciate it as film history. Still need to watch the 1st original one and furiosa. But as is I’d rank fury road at #1, thunder dome #2, road warrior at #3. Maybe I’m biased because fury road was the first one I saw.

@@squanchysquanch1840 Like what you like I grew up with the originals and fury road was like they were copying the outlandish game Borderlands than anything out of the realm of Mad Max. Also Mel Gibson spanks Tom Hardy as Max no ands ifs or buts. Also Max isn't even in Furiosa so I opted out even watching that let the new generation have their way with things without my support.

@@lunarvvolf9606 Im not telling you not to like the originals lol. Just sharing what I thought about fury road. I’d have to disagree about fury road trying to emulate borderlands though, if anything borderlands got massive inspiration from the OG mad max films. So how can a filmmaker emulate a video game which was inspired by his original work? That doesn’t make much sense 😅 But yeah I have no issue with you preferring the older films. @@lunarvvolf9606 I do agree that Mel Gibson was great in the role though! I honestly see each film as their own separate work, since there isn’t much continuity between the films. So that’s why I didn’t have much of an issue with Tom hardy in the role. I can’t judge furiosa because I haven’t seen it, although max not being in it wouldn’t put me off of actually watching it. You have sentimental attachment to the older films, and that’s understandable. But personally I wouldn’t discredit his newer films for that reason alone. Different strokes for different folks!
