I definitely think age has a lot to do with your rankings, lol! Her anticipation for a new video used to be huge. It wasn't exactly accessible as it was now. She really was the person doing the kind of stuff that she did. I really enjoyed this list! Confessions On A Dance Floor would/should be way higher, and so would a lot of her late 90s ' stuff like the American Pie theme and other techno stuff that brought her back into popularity (You would have really enjoyed that era!). I honestly thought her career was dead after American life, lol. I agree with you on her Super Bowl performance and with MDNA. A lot of people in the crowd that night thought it was lackluster and really disappointing TBH. Good interpretation of your picks! I did enjoy her song with Nicki Minaj. Thanks for the video! I enjoyed this discussion. It brought back a lot of memories.

You're almost exactly like me and I loved watching your review! My top five Madonna is number five rebel heart number for bedtime stories number three red light number two true blue and number one like a prayer! I also think that American life is one of the most underrated albums so I have it at number 6 and I have confessions that number 8 so I love confessions musically but the lyrics just didn't match up to the top five. Of course I agree with the Like A Prayer tanking too! Edit: I also like how True Blue was ranked high because I feel like people unfairly rate it low and forget that so many of the songs were successful singles!

I think as Madonna fans we accept everyone's different rankings because her albums sound so different. However there are only 2 albums that would be #1 and that's either Ray of Light or Like a Prayer. I'm a Ray of Light person and sad to say Like a Prayer isn't on my top 10. I listen to it a lot but I have issues with some of the production. I think I feel the same way about it the way you feel about Confessions. I wish I loved it more tbh

Well argued and nothing wrong with the list because it’s based partly on your own taste as well as objective appraisal. Like A Prayer probably my number one as well; it seems to get a bit of backlash because the late 80s production is not in vogue with many younger fans at the moment but of course this could change over the years. Agree about the weak spots on True Blue. But the greatest bunch of singles. I always thought the “New York/dork” thing was funny in a cheesy way and very her - but it seems to annoy a lot of people! Music is so amazing on a decent pair of headphones. If you’ve not tried that, it may change your opinion of the album.

Yes! Like a Prayer is my #1 with Ray of Light as my #2 also! Rebel Heart is painfully underrated and underappreciated. It really should have been another career-pivoting album for Madonna much like Ray of LIght. I think half of both MDNA and Hard Candy are A-level for Madonna, but the other halves of both albums are definitely D-level, which also puts them at my bottom rankings. Confessions has become my solid #3 Madonna album. but I will also say that American Life is under-respected.

Your likes and less-likes (I don't want to say "dislikes") range over the various periods more than mine do. For me, she didn't put a foot wrong on the non-soundtrack releases between 1989 and 2000. Those five plus Confessions would be my top six. I've never warmed up to American Life, which to me sounds confused. Everything else I think of as "early work" or "later work." Those first three albums have the amazing highlights we remember them for, but the material isn't as consistent from end to end as it became starting with Like A Prayer. Anyway, thanks for this charming, personal tour through the discography.

Good list! I agree with you about Confessions. I never understood the love for that album other than it being the last “pure” Madonna album before collabs became the norm on future releases. It’s an ok listen but an underwhelming experience for an all out dance record in my opinion. Though the concert supporting it was fantastic! It’s also nice to see someone show love for Rebel Heart. But one small faux pas, you mentioned This Used to Be My Playground as part of the tracklist for Like A Virgin. 😉

I'm honestly hoping for an album along the lines of Music or American Life with heavy electronic beats and sounds ! Madonna has been experimenting quite alot these ten past years especially during her contract with Interscope Records so a bubbly dance electro album would be a nice change ! Let's not forget that Levitating was an electro dance song so that might be hinting towards a Music-like album, even though Madonna was just a feature !
