Jeddah 2021 was WILD! Max has incredible talent, but I swear, sometimes he seemingly loses it for the fun of it (Hungary this year actually is another great example). And Lewis… well when in a Championship battle that man has never been safe or sane. Remember 2016? Because I do.

Max fans and Lewis fans can say whatever about the opposite driver being an ass, when they gave us the battle of the century. Literally who cares if max is too aggressive and causes crash he was the only hope during a Mercedes era because Ferrari and Vettel were too busy choking. And for the other way around atleast Hamilton would fight verstappen without just letting him past. A great duo honestly

The only thing I can think of for 2017 was Verstappen passing Hamilton for the lead in Malaysia, but that wasn't much of a battle. They have had some really good battles over the years, but I think their rivalry will largely be defined by 2021, and you already know some of my thoughts on that year! The opening lap of Silverstone is possibly the most aggressive opening lap I've ever seen in an F1 race. After Hamilton had failed to pass Verstappen into Copse in the sprint and Verstappen had skipped away, it felt like Hamilton needed to get ahead early in the race otherwise he'd be in for a repeat. So I think that upped the aggression on his side, but Verstappen was ready to fight firs with fire and bang! 51G into the tyre barrier at Copse and cue all-out war, and I don't think that's much of an exaggeration! I personally think the crash isn't as clear cut as it simply being Hamilton's fault. It is perfectly possible to pass cleanly at Copse, so Christian Horner's remarks saying "you can't pass there" were complete bull. But it does require cooperation from both parties, and while Hamilton is more at fault given that he understeered into Verstappen, I think Verstappen could've given a bit more room than he did. With how shallow Hamilton's line was and the speed he was carrying, he was probably always going to understeer towards Verstappen. Verstappen could probably have run off-track and be able to claim he'd been forced off and he might've had a good case! Monza was rubbish as well on Verstappen's part, though it did obviously benefit McLaren (but I reckon Danny Ric could well have won even without the crash). Brazil was a bit of a farce (thankfully Hamilton came out on top), but that was nothing compared to Jeddah! I completely agree with you on them both being idiots that day. And as for Abu Dhabi... There was nothing wrong with Hamilton pitting, there was nothing wrong with Verstappen staying out. What was wrong was how Michael Masi managed the lapped cars. Either don't let them unlap themselves, as was initially the case, or let them all unlap themselves as is implied in the rules (sure, as the FIA said "any does not mean all" but most people would interpret the any as meaning all), and if there isn't enough time, then just end the race under the safety car. I know it's disappointing, but it happens! I mean, 2012, a season many consider to be one of the greatest seasons of the modern era, ended its final race in Brazil under the safety car, but that still doesn't prevent people saying that that race is among the best title deciders or indeed, one of the best races full stop of last twenty years or so! But no, only a few lapped cars were allowed through, which scuppered a few drivers chances, however slim, of nicking a point, such as Daniel Ricciardo, and left Carlos Sainz in 3rd with no opportunity to perhaps provide a spoiler to Verstappen and Hamilton. Sorry, that turned into another 2021 rant! How levelheaded it is I don't know, probably not very and I should probably get over it more, but anyway. Mind you, it has been a few years. You don't find many truly levelheaded takes on the internet these days I find. My takes on McLaren after Monza which I wrote in the comments section of FP1Will's Comedy Review for that race, in which I basically pretty much repeated what I said on your channel at the time, and then replied to a couple of replies with additional opinions, got the following replies: "Honestly, shout-out to you, one of the most levelheaded McLaren fans I've seen on the internet. McLaren are the only team I root against but I'm 100% with everything you said. I think the McLaren loss was just Ferrari outsmarting them and not necessarily a mistake on McLaren's part, and at the same time people acting like Lando has already won the championship is definitely too ambitious." And "Incredibly reasonable takes out here, what a legend" Like, are (hopefully) objective takes that much of a rarity these days that someone gets called a legend for not descending into a petty or delusional and shallow opinion showing extremes for or against, clearly carrying a grudge in some cases, and instead trying to put their biases aside and put a bit more nuance to their take, especially if they're a fan of the teams/drivers they're talking about?
@F-Duck1Ай бұрын
Yeah most of the f1 community (mainly newer fans) are extremely parasocial with the drivers to the point where they get offended on their behalf. It’s one thing to defend your favorite after an incident and another to completely slam and insult the other party. Like level headed takes aren’t that rare it’s just that the parasocial community are extremely loud.
@dominicbarden4436Ай бұрын
@@F-Duck1 I guess, yeah. Maybe it's a, well, I don't want to say generational thing, but I think there's a difference between older fans and some (not all) newer fans. I mean, I feel like a veteran in terms of being an F1 fan and I only turned 25 last week! Mind you, I've been watching F1 since I was eight so I suppose it's warranted! I like to think I'm generally level headed in my opinions on the sport, not that I'm perfect of course, but sometimes I feel like it doesn't get you very far in a conversation, typed out on the internet or not, particularly with the parasocial sections of the fandom. You'll still get calls of 'bias'. And don't get me started on the 'British bias' arguments! Just know that I find them really, really grating and tiring, especially as I'm British! It's not just F1 either. In football (soccer) I support Chelsea F.C. so it's been an interesting couple of seasons under American ownership! £1.75bn in transfers spent for finishes of 12th and 6th in the Premier League for a team which has been one of the most successful English teams over the last twenty odd years. Chelsea are an interesting team. Founded in 1905, their most successful period came under the ownership of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich between 2003-'22, in which he bought the club, spent loads of money over that time and won almost every trophy available at least once. Fans of rival teams often say we 'bought the league' and we did it with dirty money, that kind of thing, rather like with Manchester City over the last few years. Often, that seems to imply that, say, Chelsea, just got a massive windfall and benefitted from it, that they came from nowhere, when that wasn't really the case, as in the late 1990s Chelsea had established themselves as consistent top-6 finishers in the league and a competitive cup team, and they did all that while being pretty much broke! So they were already a decent force before Abramovich came along. But people seem to forget that. I wrote an essay about it on a video discussing whether Chelsea broke football, in which I argued that Abramovich didn't break it as such, he merely accelerated the process (and if he hadn't, someone else might've had the same idea) as English football had been on that sort of path anyway. The Premier League itself was created as a breakaway league with a large TV deal with Sky Sports backing it, and Manchester United had dominated the early years and presumably spent a fair bit to stay stay ahead, and Blackburn Rovers had spent huge amounts to catch up and win the 1994-95 title. I think some of it was maybe rival fans being resentful of Chelsea for breaking into the comfortable establishment of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, the three most successful clubs (and I swear some fans of those clubs, particularly United, believe that they have a divine right to win trophies all the time). While there were some civil replies to the essay and I had a nice conversation with an Everton fan about our teams in the 90s, some people had arguments in the comments about Chelsea 'buying the league' and there was also "bro wrote an essay on how his club sucks" and "you're basically defending financial doping, disgusting club" when I wasn't trying to do that at all (though in hindsight it had probably come across as that somewhat). My main argument was one I also apply to F1: you can have the best manager, the best players, the best staff etc., and spend loads of money to get it, but it's worthless unless it all gels together. Sure, it's more likely the more money you spend and the higher quality you can likely get, but it's not a guarantee by any means. Chelsea under Abramovich, whether you like the methods or not (I've personally always been in two minds about it, the success is one thing and it's great, but the methods behind the scenes, Abramovich's money and its possible sources, temper it a little. It's why I have some sympathy towards Manchester City fans given that team's current situation) made it work. Under Todd Boehly and Clearlake, the mass of money spent on players and managers hasn't really paid off yet and it's been chaos. Thing is, football has always been a really tribal sport, and football fans can get really ugly. Seriously, any American fans looking for inspiration from Europe in how to be a football fanatic, you do not want to be like the ultra groups of some clubs. Seriously. A lot of the time the ideologies and actions on display in these groups have absolutely nothing to do with football. And there is a line between passion and outright hooliganism. And then there's the racism, which is an issue everywhere, but clubs in Spain and Italy have had the most high-profile incidents in this regard over recent years. And that's without mentioning the chaos in the Turkish Superlig over the last couple of years which got the league suspended for a bit and had one of the top clubs contemplating leaving the league entirely, or my personal favourite bit of insanity: the time the Greek league got suspended after one club owner disagreed with a refereeing decision and walked onto the pitch carrying a gun!
