I spent 70 hours on my first complete run of Stellar blade and apart from the section you have to avoid cannons, enjoyed every minute!!! Especially once I unlocked the chained counter which I wish I had done earlier. The fighting is so much fun! The craftmanship of the combat, music, puzzles, visuals and spectacular boss fights is just staggering.

The story is absolute dogwater, characters are boring af compared to zero dawn and aloy is straight up annoying af in this game she went from a curious girl wanting learn the secrets of the world before to an annoying ik what to do you don't need to tell me type of character in the span that aside gameplay and soo many QoL improvements are great

I think open worlds need more interactive elements, when I think of open world obviously I think of GTA that doesn't mean these games happen to be like it. That would make no sense but Rockstar makes their worlds even with things like bully have a layer of interactability that makes the world just enjoyable to be in A lot of Sony's games where they have an open world. It's really just like for no reason. Like of course I enjoy Ghost of toshima. I'm playing it right now but the world is like really dead. You know NPCs are just placed there to look pretty. There's no consequence to attacking them. There is no activities you can really do and it's the same thing with horizon. At least the first one that I played. I played about at least 40% of it and it's a beautiful game and it does have fun gameplay but the world needs to be fun when you're in it, at least to me Same with infamous, same with Spiderman If you can't make your open world at least a little bit interactive and like it has a point then I really just don't see why you would do it. For example, elden ring is the first open world from software game but That doesn't mean that every other game it had was completely linear. There were open paths and things to go and do and the world had so much lore and it was so focused that you still felt a part of the world. Whenever NPCs only function just makes like a PlayStation 2 emote then it makes that world feel lifeless. Sleeping dogs was a PS3 game and it had a great vibe and a fun world to be in same with Arkham City. There is so much character to the environment that it just screams atmosphere and there are things that you can just accidentally stumble into. So I like infamous. I like ghost of tsushima. I like horizon but All these games ultimately feel like they need a God of war treatment basically don't make an open world if you can't give it character just because you have a bunch of wandering robots isn't the same as character

Surprised to see Returnal so high on your list since it's not really mentioned a lot in gaming conversations now a days and I feel like it's a bit underrated but man that game is so damn good. I actually have zero complaints on my end regarding Returnal. It became one of my all time favorite games ever since I played it and there is truly just nothing like it on the market. I can only hope we get a second part in the future.

I think it's my favorite PS5 game so far. The game oozes intrigue with its presentation, and it most importantly oozes FUN. Been a long time since I was thinking about a game while I was out and about getting groceries or something. One of the only games I kept playing after getting the platinum. Awesome stuff.

HZD is a superb RPG, highly individualistic in the norm of standard RPG’s. Excellent landscaping, characters ( NPC’s ), story is unmatched in originality. Combat is great, seed & plant collection is superb. Aloy on the other hand could well have been designed to look more like an attractive character, for a girl. Her presentation is not good. If we had Lara or Tifa or even that Eve from the new Stellar Blade, HZD & FW would be perfection.

Ive been playing on PS for all my life, have played almost every single one of the games on this list, though i finished just Rise of the Ronin and Gran turismo 7 so i wont bother ranking them this time. I will comment though on Ronins review which i had almost identical thoughts on it. Enjoyed the combat, got bored with the dialogue and story, absolutely hated the open world, i was planning to platinum the game so i had to do everything, i collected 100 stupid cats, then i dropped on platinum altogether. Gran Turismo 7 is just superb in my opinion. Btw i was planning to make this a super thanks but i had no money, though i will make up for it with the first opportunity

Really appreciate your breakdowns and I respect your opinions. Gotta disagree highly on God of War Ragnarok, though. I find that it has strange creative choices. I haven't played the DLC yet, but Ragnarok's story is an underwhelming mess and it doesn't hold a candle to GOW 2018. Atreus's combat and story sections are not interesting and go for far too long. The pacing of the game suffers greatly, and all I was doing was wondering when I'd be able to play as Kratos again. Thor was a great 1st impression, but the Norse gods are so underwhelming as villains and their characterization just makes them "too human" for lack of better words. The dialogue is also strange since it seems to use a lot of modern language... When you play the old games, and there's way more of an imposing vibe to the villains, not to mention the spectacle of the bosses like Poseidon. I felt like Ragnarok had great moments for sure as well as great combat, but it had way too many things that held it back. The final act with the "war in Asgard" is such a letdown. You spend more time in Ironwood riding a yak than fighting an apocalyptic battle in the realm of the gods, and so many things like Jormungandr were simply wasted. I feel like the Norse saga should have been 3 games. Have 2018 be what it was. Then, the 2nd one be where you unite the realms during fimbulwinter, and you could then have something happen like Atreus being kidnapped at the end. Then have the 3rd game be where Kratos gets everyone to invade Asgard to save Atreus. Idk... Ragnarok was fun, but it was disappointing for me.

But basically everything else is swapped out. The cutscenes were videos in the original game and its remastered version on PS4 whereas in the remake it is all real time. Also they introduced 3 graphical modes for optimal gameplay. They completely revamped the AI and they are more ferocious than before. If you think the graphics upgrade is small, you probably should get your eyes checked.

I heavily disagree on the miles morales take, phin is a terrible villain in the sense that they try to make u feel empathetic towards her despite her being a massive hypocrite, miles is also a push over, let's phin walk all over him and apologises when it's phin who should be doing the apologising, phin nearly kills miles' mom at the rally and blames it on SPIDERMAN who only did to save the rally, which btw that attack was completely unnecessary as their main target was the nuform at the bridge, so essentially phin put miles' mom and her "community" at risk for no reason, all of this would be fine if insomniac didn't try to keep making you feel sorry for phin

Team ninja could've done so much more wit that game. however the following playstation exclusive stellar blade was a beast, that game was awesome. my only complain really is that most sidequests are bland, it has horrendeous checkpoints at times and it could've been a longer game. but the main quest was amazing, combat was excellent and the soundtrack is one of the yr's best. it should've just been a linear main quest game only wit no sidequests and it would've been even better but either way it was an awesome game. sony released a masterpiece wit ff7 rebirth, dropped the ball wit ronin but picked it up immediately wit stellar blade. can't wait for their next exclusive, whatever & whenever that'll be. God of War Ragnarok (truthfully the best exclusive on ps5, it may not be my favorite but i admit it's the best. one of the best gow games up there wit gow 2018 & gow2) Incase anyone's wondering "where's helldivers 2?" i have no interest in a mutiplayer game only y'all, im a singleplayer guy ppl, hence why it didn't make my list. im sure it's a great game though but it's not for me ppl. PS5's already build a solid roster for only being out for 3 yrs or so, can't wait to see how it'll be when it reaches it's full lifespan.

GOW 2018 is far superior to Rag. Rag was boring in some parts and dragged. Still a good game but 2018 GOW is a masterpiece.
