A lot of people saying Synth Riders isn't a good workout game are playing it wrong. You're supposed to be actively HITTING the spheres not just standing there matching them. I see so many people just standing there. After three songs I'm sweating like crazy. I mean, it's fine to have a passive experience as well but if you're going for a high score you gotta be active.

Oh shape does feel like your posing at the lower levels, especially the very first one. however, I have noticed if you take one song and play each level back to back you feel a progression in dancing. Each level helps you learn and perfect the positions so at the next level you can move faster without thinking as much. The higher levels if your not failing out really starts to feel like your dancing. I love that game because it's one of the few games that makes my whole body feel exhausted. I agree the game is not for everyone.

I would add one more thing. I think you would appreciate and that's why I am adding it. I play the pc side of the game so I can't say on quest 2. When I first played the game I failed on the easiest setting due to permanent physical limitations from arthritis. You had to be perfect making your shapes. No exceptions. Than they had a major update saying that they are listening to the community and what they want. This update was requested. They made it easier for people with limitations could play by making it not as strict making shapes.

I own all of the games mentioned here and I must say I basically agree with everything said here. I am hopelessly hooked on Supernatural because of its massive music collection and helpful community, both of which keep me coming back to it every day. That being said, the Cardio Trips on Audio Trip are a better cardio workout, and it and Supernatural are the only games I used for fitness, although I enjoy Beat Saber and "Synth Riders as games.

Thanks for your list, and even though it's currently an App Lab game, Smash Drums without a doubt should be on the Oculus store 100%. I just don't understand how it isn't. In my opinion, it's the ultimate rhythm based game which gives you a fantastic workout, especially if you're standing and drumming using the 360 mode. Up the difficulty to hard or extreme if you dare, and you'll be sweating buckets. Great Indie song rock list and deserves to be right near the top, if not the top. Easy 10/10 for me. :)

I agree, an awesome review. While grading of individual games will be highly subjective, your comments are pretty well spot on. A little rough on Dance Central perhaps but I only played the demo version, so what do I know? I did learn to like OhShape but only after they came out with some dlc content. I really disliked that plane pastel look of the original game. The dlc have a background that I think looks more like a Synth Riders look. But I agree that it is not as much a fitness workout as the others. And while I would have given Supernatural an A-, they could zoom to the top of your list if they would take some of the suggestions from their users and integrate them into their app. Excellent review!

I have played all of those except FitXR. I'd actually agree with about 90% of your rankings. I've also never been able to get Dance Central to click. It really needs a 'studio' where you can just learn the moves before throwing you out onto the floor, for one thing. And I also am not sure exactly what Oh Shape is trying to achieve. Pistol Whip is one that I just haven't been able to fall in love with. I keep coming back to it, and it is a game that I should like, but I just can't get it right. The main problem for me is that it is a rhythm game the way the others are not - unlike, say, Beat Saber, you're the one responsible for the rhythm, but the music doesn't really support that. It has a beat that I find is hard to follow, with long quiet segments with no beat at all. I end up trying to play the game in time to the flashing lights, and my timing just stinks that way. But wow, the trifecta of my favorite workout games: Supernatural, Synth Riders, and Audio Trip. All three are great, and all three are fun. But looking at them primarily as games... Supernatural nails the workout, and is built around it, but the game is lackluster. You're never quite sure how you're doing, as there is no feedback until the end. I get why - they want you to focus on the movement, not the score, and that's fine, but it does weaken the gameplay. Synth Riders is so much fun. It's got great motion, and it gives you more freedom in how you interpret the targets and motions required - meaning that you can dance with it in a way that feels good to you. But it doesn't really push you (there are a few songs that do - the custom Captain Jack song, for instance), but generally it's up to you to work out while you play. Audio Trip, though, manages to be the best of all of them. I'd put it this way: Supernatural nails the workout, but gives a mediocre game. Synth Riders nails the game, but gives a mediocre workout. Audio Trip is the one of the bunch that manages to do great at both. I've also spent some time with some non-Oculus PCVR titles that didn't meet your criteria. PowerBeatsVR had some good ideas, but it was not fun to play, and never gave much of a flow. It always felt awkward and uncomfortable, despite giving a good workout. Ragnarock has some good music and great ideas, but it really needs some more tweaking to be fun to play. It doesn't give much of a workout at all, though. Your pretty much have to stand still and make short, fast arm motions to play. It's fun, but it'll never be a workout game.

Dance Central has a studio where you can practice whole songs and sections of them. Its really good because you can change the speed. There are orbs on the dancer that show you your accuracy which is also recorded on a chart.
@raheenb Жыл бұрын
I think Synthriders is the most fun of that genre... you do need to crank the difficulty for a better workout though. The only thing holding it back is no campaign mode. Audio Trip is great, but the difficulty on normal campaign is a little unforgiving, especially when your hands "shrink" 🤬. GREAT workout though but could be more balanced since easy is way too easy.
@SheGingerSnaps3 жыл бұрын
I suspect we can't turn off the coaches and make playlists by songs with Supernatural because of licensing wrangling but it is a PITA. The 'game' of hitting the balloons itself doesn't keep me motivated and being in the zone, the music does. Not being able to dial that in does suck.

@@georgejohnson9381 it’s just such an easy fix that has no negative repercussions!.
I wish Beat Saber had the option to go into a “practice mode” when you fail a level. The practice mode should allow you to slow it down so you can figure out the progression. There are times it’s going so fast I can’t see which direction to hit the block, and by the time I miss 1, I miss 10 more because I can’t catch up. Guitar Hero had this option in the later versions… why can’t beat saber???

@@FitProVR The only 3 I use now are Supernatural, Audio trip(needs more songs) and X-booster. X-Boosters auto compose is the best I've seen. Load up an mp3, 20 variable tweeks and press a button. I set them to just boxing, no horizontal butt on floors, and 2x beat. The program tries to put punches on the beat. If you load up Billy Squier - Stroke you can see it try to match the beat, I'd say its a quarter beat behind.
