Cannot believe it been 5 years, the disappointment from finishing this game still feels so fresh lol. While many of these levels had great moments & ideas most all of them were SO SHORT. I found that being my biggest disappointment with so many of them. There were a lot of times where I felt like a level was JUST getting good and then it just… ended. Hope the Cyberspace Levels in Frontiers learn from this game 😔
@son-of-18102 жыл бұрын
We’ll, the cyberspace stages aren’t the meat of Frontiers so the focus definitely wasn’t on them. They’re not terrible, they’ve reused level layouts from previous games but it’s on purpose here, so it has meaning. But almost everyone who’s played the Frontier’s demo has said the game is either good or great, just that cyberspace is the weakest part.

16:20 Interesting thing about the giant infinite creatures. There’s a glitch where you can use the void wisp’s Secret hover ability (that you can only activate if used to teleport and you land above a death pit) you can actually walk inside those things arms (since he never hit them they don’t have collision) and on the inside they actually have a blue water texture instead of the black one we see in the final product. Makes me wonder if those things were initially meant to be Perfect Chaos’ originally?
@feiradragon79152 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't surprise me. They look so weird compared to Infinite himself and the fact Chaos was brought back as an illusion like the other antagonists makes me think the devs had at least some plan for him. Really wish there'd been a Chaos boss and a Shadow clone boss. The game plot hinted at that happening without doing anything with it, even in the dlc content.

My main issue with forces is one that a lot of people don't seem to talk about (or at least articulate very well). It's the acceleration physics. When you first start walking, you barely seem to move at all, but then in the span of about 1 second, you hit top speed. This makes platforming feel VERY strange. I either jump right after moving the control stick and barely go anywhere at all, or I wait slightly too long and send myself flying over the platform I was aiming at. I can adjust to this, but I can't help but feel like I shouldn't have to, y'know? It feels like a very specific "game feel" problem that is unique to Forces.

If Luminous Forest was a one-time thing, the only level where you can just GO, it would absolutely be my favorite. I love the idea of a single level where the objective is simply to rip through an area, tearing your way from Point A to Point B, with absolutely no regard for the entire army in-between. As it stands, though, it just serves as a perfect illustration of the issues with Forces. I still like it, but the snake completely kills the flow. Anytime I replay the stage, I just exit level as soon as I get to it.

Luminous forest actually has a short cut a lot of people missed (myself included until I found it on a whim). Would be great as an intro stage. Let players jump around for a quick minute, boost through enemies carefree, and air boost where we see fit to get used to how everything works. I really liked your video bro. Personally, I like Sonic Forces, it's not my favorite Sonic game, but it's one I can have fun with. Yes, I know it's short, and it has a lot of automation, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. My favorite level is Null Space, because, not only is it 90% 3D, but it's possibly the level with the most alternate paths, plus the Fist Bump theme gives pure adrenaline vibes. Other levels that I like are: Park Avenue, Metropolitan Highway, Sunset Heights, Egg Gate, Ghost Town, Network Terminal, among others. It must be admitted that Shadow in this game did pretty good, not only because he had good levels, but because the character was well written and his participation was adequate, not to mention the good performance of Kirk Thornton, a shame that many people overlook it's.

As much as Forces disappointed us, I somehow always enjoyed this game from day one due to my attachment of the game from a nostalgic view of 2017, the first time experience being fun and the soundtrack being my favourite in the series with its synth approach. That remains unchanged (but of course, without ignoring its flaws). The floaty double jump and OP air boost really change up how you play the levels and speed run them to your advantage. My personal favourite levels are (in no order): Ghost Town, Arsenal Pyramid, Imperial Tower, Mortar Canyon, Enemy Territory, Null Space, Egg Gate, Park Avenue and Sunset Heights. I do wanna bring your Attention to Forces Re-Imagined mod. It remixes the level layouts with new paths, tougher object placement, and even completely NEW extensions of the stages to make them more akin to 2-3 minutes. That new Sunset Heights man was what I originally envisioned the level would’ve been before what we actually got. I think Sonic Forces was trying to take a more cinematic approach with its automated and dodging level design, but it finally does get realised in that mod with the grand setpieces. The next demo will be at SHC 2022 this month (October).

The thing that made me enjoy a lot more these levels are physics improvement mods that really make an upgrade to the Classic Stages (even if I alredy enjoyed them in the Vanilla game, but not to much), they're actually fun to play and I love those multiple pathways to take. You know, I like this game (6.5 is enough for me lol and maybe's because I didn't belong to its respective hype train), but I think that it would have been a great idea to make it as a full 2D game, why? Well, because of the 2D sections, they're actually pretty good and fun to master (I'm not saying that the entire of 3D sections are bad, not at all), seriously, even if they're way to short. For an example, I LOVE the Metropolitan Highway 2D sections because you need fast reaction input for make an insane speedrun full of satisfaction. Great video, as always. See you soon in Frontiers! absolutely loved egg gate personally, i used to speedrun that a bunch: dropping down from the rail just before the loop, and falling your way onto the three rail bit was always really fun remember also really liking null space too - especially the music and also remember being surprised that on metropolitan highway, i was surprised you had to actually steer yourself whilst boosting.

Yo, just wanted to to give props to you for being one of the only people on KZbin to say good things about this game. Sometimes I think I'm crazy because for some reason I keep coming back to this game I don't mind Nintendo switch I've clearly put more than 90 hours on it. This was one of my first modern Sonic games I played. I have colors but I just can't come to terms to finish that. I have Mania and although the gameplay is fun I got bored with it's difficulty in the last level...went right back to playing Forces. Only other modern sonic game I have is Sonic Origins and even though the public reception wasn't the best for it I enjoyed it because we could play the old games on the switch. But still...I enjoy the hell out of Forces. Not cuz of the story either, which I kno is a missed opportunity. Speed running it in handheld mode is where the fun is at, in my opinion. I think if the Developers had more of those bonus levels and focus more on finishing a level as fast as you can should've been more of the focus since the game was rushed in a way. Sonic forces just should have been a speed running game you can create your own character in. One thing they could have added which could have been cool as if you created your own character and try to race Sonic. That would've been a nice touch. Keep the vids coming and showing appreciation to such a fun yet mediocre yet "divisive" game lol

Hey, in the final judgement stage, the reason inputs get eaten is that you would have quick stepped into one of the wheels apparently. It's really annoying and unclear, which is why it feels like it gets eaten.

When I finished this game back in 2017, I didn’t know what to feel about it. I generally had an ok time with it but constantly just wanted so much more, but I’m pretty sure that’s the consensus of what the fandom thought of this game.

Interesting opinions. ^^; I'll admit, I wasn't expecting half the levels to have positive spins on them; I also didn't expect you to be such a precise speedrunner. :O I did not know half of those skips in the footage. You did focus more on gameplay than level design, too, so it's always good to see a different opinion on things. ^^;

Interesting perspective on the level design in Forces. Looking at it through a casual speed running lens by maximizing the efficient use of various speed improvement tech was unique and gave me a new found appreciation for the more intricately designed 2D sections. Like you said, I wish we didn’t have to make a choice between short yet slightly complex and long but shallow, but it’s just how it is I suppose. Fantastic video as always man! Keep it up!

Virtual Reality isn’t a stage I really bothered with a few years ago, but starting last year, I really started to grind it because it’s actually incredibly challenging to speed run. Very happy to see someone else appreciate it, as it’s a very nice stage.

good video, with solid picks. as for me, my fav level is Ghost Town. it's just a blast to learn to speedrun, and not unnecessarily too long.

Honestly when I saw the thumbnail and read the title I thought he wasn’t gonna do this, then I clicked on the video… he actually did this…

I would actually like to know what your ranking of the bosses are? To be honest I don't really like much of the levels but my favourite level is the first Infinite Boss on the snake in luminous forest.

One nice little touch about Virtual Reality is that they bring back Supporting Me from SA2, which makes some sense because both situations are desperate battles for shadow to fulfill his duty In SA2 he was fighting the biolizard to keep his true promise to Maria to protect the world and help people be happy. In Forces he’s trying to escape Infinite’s mind trap to get back out and fight against Eggman, all the while hearing distortions of his friends telling him nothing is wrong. It’s just such a nice touch and if they gave that care to the rest of the game it would’ve been amazing

Iron Fortress being that high says all I need to know about the video.

Two things, one I didn’t even know Classic Sonic had a drop dash in this so that’s cool(same case with the Avatar’s stomp dash.) Two I honestly struggled a LOT more on Imperial Tower than Iron Fortress because I tend to suck at precision platforming
