I would like to point out that Jordis the shieldmaiden has several things going for her that the other houscarls lack. Her name is taken from the norse word "hjordis" meaning sword, meaning her name is lowkey cool af, and shieldmaiden is a really nice title for the dragonborn's wife. She expresses that she wanted to go out adventuring and see the world besides solitude and find a husband, so unlike the other characters just kinda going "oh is that an amulet of mara? sure why not" she actively wants a husband. She comes with the house in solitude which is objectively one of the better house options in the game, even if I do like goldenhills more.

Agreed on your points! To further expand on her name and as you said, "Hjördís" is the Old Norse name hers was based on, but it is also a compound word. "Hjör-" as you mentioned, means 'sword' but "Dís" means either 'maiden' or 'goddess'. So her name, directly translated from Old Norse would be "Swordmaiden", which makes reading out her full name and title translated kind of funny; Swordmaiden the Shieldmaiden.

She in fact still worships Molag Bal, which you can find out if you do the Mace quest before the Dawnguard quests - then you can tell her you worship him, and she's like "yeah, me too." She's uncomfortable in temples because she's a vampire. It's a reference to Daggerfall. Why does it persist if she's not a vampire? Because that feature was so badly rushed that her eyes still glow in Dragonborn vampire-spotting vision.

My 3 favorites all in the top 10 (Jenassa, Sylgja, and Muiri). Although I am partial to Muiri for her looks and the whole cool with murder aspect, I think Jenassa is the most practical wife. She is the perfect wife for a Dunmer who prefers to date stay within the superior race. Lydia is my favorite housescarl. She was my first follower in skyrim, and we together laid low the world eater. I kitted her out in the best gear, and the strongest armor. Lydia was an unstoppable whirl-wind of destruction and "You should've stayed in your forest, little elf..." It was great. Sadly...One day she bugged out and woudn't put her helmet on, so I gracefully retired her to breeze home. She is Lydia of Whiterun, sworn to carry your burdens. And she is cool!

While Lydia is clearly the most fleshed out housecarl, I don't feel like marrying her is the right choice. But I tend to make her my steward in Lakeview Manor. Nah this is nuts, immediately Senna being at the bottom makes me hate this. She's one of the only few characters with unique dialogue, actually positive dialogue too and she can absolutely move into your house. (If you missed her there could be others, and she isn't DLC or MOD related she's base game).

@@anonymouseX942 yeah I saw a couple days later in a different video, I also discovered that the unofficial Skyrim patch is what fixes her so I guess you do need a mod because Bethesda left her a broken character... If they hadn't messed up her code then you wouldn't need the patch. 😑

I swear that I remember being able to marry Derkeethus (I think that is how you spell his name idk) after you save him from Dark Water Crossing. I remember because when you ask to marry him he says something along the lines of "I would gladly walk along side you until the trees themselves fade away" or something like that. I've always wondered why she's marked as being a Conjuration mage instead of Alteration. Someone who is skilled enough of a mage in general to turn a person into a cow, then a horse, then back into a human, intended or not, should be studying Alteration. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Neloth recognize her? I could've sworn he did but it might've been part of a dialogue overhaul mod, I've not taken her to him in quite a while.

Damn shame Bethesda hadn't given them as much to say as Teldryn Sero, he's always gonna be my go-to Bethesda-created male follower. He's no Inigo, but I doubt Bethesda could ever create a follower with as much personality and overall utility as some of Skyrim's higher effort companion mods.

In my first playthrough I married Njada because of the hard to get aspect. I was so disappointed when she still says mean stuff occasionally and in my house in Solitude she would sleep in the basement instead of the bedroom. Then I met Serana...so I did what anyone guy would do. I restarted and speedran the DLC to marry her only to find out you can't. I usually marry Sylgja. Even her mom is hot so you know she's going to retain her looks. Muiri is also hot; but you have to "accidently" hit her boss with an aggression spell so a guard can take her out making way for Muriri to take over the shop so you can invest in it.

Honestly Shahvee was my favorite just for the fact she is the only Saxhleel crazy enough to marry me. I feel bad for her backstory as a sneaky naugthy thief, and her devotion to earn a new and honest life is very aspiring. Maybe she's not as "normal" as Sylgja, but she's not evil, she's just a bit deadpan in how she talks about certain things, and you would be too if you were raped by a daedra and stuck inside a human-sized lockbox in some musty ass cavern for a few eras, hiding from your father who has gone down the deep end in just how cruel he is.

Shavree! My sweet, sweet Argonian maiden. I love her so much! She was the very first girl that I married in the game when I first played. My very first Skyrim character is married to her to THIS DAY! I made it a RULE... of mine no matter what version of the game nor alt; to NEVER marry Shavree or have the home in Whiterun. I recently checked the available marriage options, and there are basically four "voice types" for whatever message they give. Arrogant, neutral, nord, and orc. Ysolda clearly has the "neutral" type and Aela the "arrogant" type.

In one of my longest playthrough I married Mjoll because I was a Khajiit and marrying Mjoll the LIONESS seemed accuarate to me. Also, because she is marked as essential, she can´t die and it´s a perfect companion for going in adventures (but not for "divorcing" her...) But, the best part is that Aerin was previously killed in a random vampires attack, so he didn´t move to our house xDD
