Lmfao the guy shouting the Zelda 1 enemies was used in a very popular producer tag in indie hip hop back in the 90s, and I'd never actually seen the original commercial. What a crossover

this video made me realise that despite Zelda arguably being Nintendo's 3rd biggest franchise, it doesn't have that many games when compared to Mario & Pokemon which are about as old as Zelda (propably due to being easier to make and having lots of spin-off series)

The Link to the Past commercial is pretty good. Their choreography is good, NOT cringy at all, and the prosthetics for Beast mode Ganon is alright. Overall the best commercial imo.

The American commercials for Skyward Sword, A Link Between Worlds, Majora Masks, Spirit Tracks with how they showcase the atmosphere or gimmick with these little skits. Majora's has to be the strongest because its so far removed of what you'd expect and really drive the tone and theme of the game. Also gotta love Robin and Zelda Williams and Ken Lawson the rapper doing their thing. I miss when Zelda and game commercials did some random skit or act that showcased or represented the game's gimmick, tone, or story. Not just pure gameplay trailers or watching someone play the game. I also noticed you left out the commercials for some of the remasters/remakes of each 3d game and Links Awakening Switch.

I was 10 when I first played Ocarina, saw the Zelda tech demo maybe a year later, then just about 13 for the Wind Waker reveal. I'm one of those who hated it, and was absolutely ecstatic in 2004 when the Twilight Princess reveal came along. Granted, there were people who hated it on Zelda forums back in the day, but when does the fandom agree on anything? Fun fact, the epic song shared between some of those OoT, TP, and TWW trailers is from the 1982 Conan the Barbarian movie. It's called "Riders of Doom" by Basil Poledouris.

Edit: I think I did remember it wrong. Probably Mandela Effect. Sry for that. Old: You missed the most awesome commercial of them all. Some time after Robin Williams death and I really don't know what game it was, they made a memorial advertisement for him with his daughter. It was something like her playing the game and in the end "I know you would be proud". And we mostly got those Williams commercial in English with subtitles. So you heard her saying that. My god was I crying. I still miss him. Also I laughed so hard at the Famidisc ones. Those two seem to make ever commercial. Amazing acting.

I'm surprised that nobody ever got Sally Field to be in a Zelda commercial since she's a fan as well. Though now I don't think she's been in anything for years, but back in the day. On the upside she'd probably be pretty cheap to get now, and a good way to sell a game to the whole family including her as grandma. "The one and only Zelda rap" after we've heard at least two others already. I have to womder who the fuck thought "or will you play like one" to be in any way acceptable, especially given all the other ads with girls playing. Why alienate so much of your audience by saying that they inherently suck at gaming? Whoever suggested that should have gotten the stupid smacked out of them. The soda ad, there's a famous FF9 ad that has the cast chasing a bottle cap through Alexandria! I guess it was just something soda companies were doing at the time.

4:30 the Nintendo Wii/DS era was heavily targeting the casual non-gamer crowd, so the women calling rupee's "coins" is propably intentional to better appeal to them (if she said "rupee" that would imply that the player needs to learn deeper information when playing which might not be appealing to people that don't even know how to press the L button)

I personally do not enjoy Breath of the Wild even though I played it for over 100 hours. Based on reviews online, I can tell Tears of the Kingdom is not my cup of tea. I miss traditional Zelda and I am truly scared that Nintendo will never make another traditional Zelda. Why would they, Eiji Aonuma doesn't want to make traditional Zelda anymore, and Open-air Zelda makes tons of money.
