Serrated Arrows saw some play mainly as a reasonable way for any deck to ping the 2/1 protection pump knights Order of Leitbur, Order of the White Shield, Knight of Stromgald and Order of the Ebon Hand that were popular at the time. It's not great, but it was a clever meta choice and better than meeting the mandatory Homelands card requirement by wasting sideboard slots.

Memory Lapse is probably better than Counterspell in slightly more than half of circumstances these days. It's probably one of the 200 or so best cards printed in the entire game, and is the best card in Homelands.

Noo! Not Homelands! My full set with an unopened booster! It was my retirement plan.... Oh well, back to office tomorrow.

@@internationalarmy3984 Well seriously the set was crap even when it came out. But I liked the theme and lore so I collected the set. I still got it lying around somewhere.

Trade Caravan was once Richard Garfield's least favorite card ever. He hated it. He cited that it was extremely complicated for almost no payoff. Further, the complexity it has at common he found very distasteful; he said he could let it go more if it were rare (he's clearly not thinking about your pack value).

Apocalypse Chime makes a bit more sense in its era. The Legend rule of the time, until Kamigawa in 2004, was that once a Legend was played, any new copy of that card on EITHER SIDE was immediately put into the graveyard. That meant you could lock your opponent out of a key Legend if it was also in your deck (this was a major, and I mean major, problem during Masques block with Lin Sivvi Rebels decks). Apocalypse Chime is a colorless way to solve that issue and kill your opponents Legends. Is it good? Nope. But it makes more sense. It did actually see some Standard play as well. Autumn Willow took the place of Erhnam Djinn in the Erhnamgeddon decks, which became Willowgeddon. Since she has (selectable) shroud, no deck can kill her outside of mass removal, and the Chime was exactly that. It might as well have said "Destroy Autumn Willow. She can't be regenerated."

Spectral Bears, which you have in Z tier, is one of the few Homelands cards that saw play in Standard. There weren't many. But a 3/3 for 2 was not a thing in 1995, so if you were up against black, then it was a good rate creature.
@Trip_Fontaine2 күн бұрын
Yup. Even a 3/3 Wall for 2 mana would've been half-decent in those days. Spectral Bears was a 3/3 Wall for 2 that can sometimes attack.

I used it in 10 land stomps, combos with the elf that untapped a creature by returning a forest

if someone made a Homelands only Commander deck, everyone should give them free Timewalk. (take an extra turn after this one)

Serrated arrows was used more for black decks. Since black didnt have much back then to kill other black creatures. Since dark banishing and terror didnt kill black creatures.

I have a Skeleton Ship commander deck that uses Serrated Arrows with a bunch of infect and -1/-1 counter cards, as well as lots of proliferation cards, it’s quite effective.

What's funny is that Headstone is better now than when it was printed. It's not good now but it's not completely useless. But when it came out, there was no reason to be exiling cards from graveyards like ever. Tormod's Crypt too, that card was almost useless when it came out. There were almost no graveyard synergies back then! Those both got a lot better with age.

Baki's Curse could work in new formats.... if they changed enchantments to counters. "Oh, your critters have multiple +1/+1 counters ?? They all take 2 damage for each counter."

FE is slightly better. Hymn is by far better than any card in HL, and all the protection knights, thallids and counter building lands were quite usable.

To me this looks like the best set. This is what magic should be. Instead, it's a shitty tcg where the game ends on turn 2-3. Which is sad because I really enjoy playing the game. Can't take MTG seriously anymore because everything is way to powerful and cheap.

Play Standard. Very diverse and slow. Not expensive either.
