I think the lack of blind buy iems and abundance of "safe" ones is a testament to how disruptive the sub 100USD market has become now. Most of my daily drivers are around this price range (S12, Kato, etc.) and never would give them up for something like the Wan'er, but people just getting into the hobby have an amazing choice without breaking the bank.

I would recommend using Wavelet to EQ the Arias. I have so far only found one sub 200 dollar IEM that can compete without EQ. The Aria SE is such a great design hardware wise, if not for the little bit of muddiness in the stock tuning, it wouldn't really need any EQ to be top tier on it's own.

I finally got IE200, and to be honest, this IEM can kill almost everything in this tier list, and the price is only 150. But like Timmy said, if you can handle its' issues. To fix the nozzle issue, all you need is tape mod or Spinfit CP100v2 or later version, This eartip grip the nozzle tightly and will give it full bass performance. And I highly rec use the eartip because some of you may don't want to stick something to it. Now, my IEM journey is quite end, IE200 suite my need almost everything in my checklist, only if there is another Single DD iem with better in "Technical Performance and Soundstage" category. and should be "Must Buy" with the same price range. I'll see to that day, but I'm pretty sure not in recent months

Timmy, your videos cost me a lot of money since I follow your channel. But in a good way. Never expected to love the sound quality of a TWS, but blind bought the Samsung; just amazing! The bass is perfect, no hissing from the built-in amplification, comfortable, and easy to use. Only wished for more volume. But that's my own "defect"; I like it very loud. I hope the Galileo will be as nice as these, which will arrive on Monday.

Hmm, I have to wonder if unit variance plays into you statements about the Lokahi considering they're hand made by a guy in his garage in Australia? My set has none of the bloat, mine are clean clear and precise with great note weight and I don't notice a BA tinge to them. They are still an amazing set in my collection. Even though I have a lot of IEMs now and a few pricier sets as well as expensive full size headphones I still pull them out pretty much weekly to listen to 60's thru 00's rock/hair bands. I have to admit we've never really agreed on the Hook X but I still love that set as well. I just got my Galaleo, your set, and honestly bro I think they'd be over priced if not for the cable. Very thin sounding, not harsh or anything just thin. Not saying that to be mean as it was your first colab, not a bad first attempt at all. Here's hoping we see more and maybe you could work on that and the next set will have more body/weight. It's kind of hard to describe what I'm hearing because the leading edge of notes is there, there's just not much to the overall note if that makes sense. If it wasn't for it being your colab and the above average cable, I ordered the 4.4mm balanced, they'd already be on the way back but they are beautiful and I'm hoping burn in helps even though I've never bought into that or actually had it change much if anything about IEMs or FS Headphones. Great list that I agreed with for the most part, not that that matters, thanks Timmy...

Really missing the Ikko OH10 on this list. It's a really slept on IEM, but at $180 MSRP it's so good. And you can often get it for much cheaper these days, for as low as $120. It's a lot better than the Kato in many areas so it should at least get a 'safe' tier rating were it to be on this list, but I'd put it in worth a demo! Edit: Only negative is the stock cable and eartips. But that's highly subjective.
@Polyfusia
@Polyfusia Жыл бұрын
I have the OH10. Buyers be aware that the treble from the BA drivers is piercing. Sparkly but piercing. Horn instruments on the OH10 at any volume above low volume will make your ears bleed. Sometimes/often they are too much for me. I've tried many other tips with them and it remains an issue. I also have the Timeless and they're better on every level. Less piercing, more resolving, lovely sub-bass that really rumbles without bloat into the mid region. I'd advise most people to pay a few extra bucks for the Timeless. The track Geometry Engine by Monolake sounds better on the OH10's than anything I own though. What a ride. Stunning.
@Mark_dj86
@Mark_dj86 Жыл бұрын
@@Polyfusia Hmmm interesting to hear. Because I have the opposite experience. I find the S12, Dioko and Timeless fatiguing and often having intolerable treble. But I never really experienced that on my OH10. Perhaps you're sensitive to a certain frequency? I know that 8kz peaks are fatiguing for me personally when too excessive. I also don't really like how bass sounds on planars compared to a DD, so this might contribute to my preference for the OH10. I also think the OH10 has a much wider soundstage than the previously mentioned planars! Not trying to invalidate your argument btw. Just find it interesting to hear as it's quite contrary to my own experience :)

Bruhhhh don't sleep on the HBB Hook-X. It's really, really good, just as special as the OG but even better, imo. From what I've heard, it corrected all the little flaws people had with the OG and has a beautiful, warm tuning if you like boomy bass, textured mids and sparkly treble, albeit not quite at the level of the Timeless Bros and perhaps the Heyday. And of course, it's still got that Hook soundstage 😎

@@zeissiez I own the Z12 and HBB Hook and greatly prefer the HBB. Not to say the Z12 Isn't a great little IEM, but the Hook has a different tuning character and aesthetic versus the other planars that I really like, the warmer sound reminds me of vinyls and the Hook soundstage simply outclasses the other planars in their price range, both are incredible especially for gaming. If there's anything I can nitpick, It's that the treble extension and resolution, while excellent, is just below the level of the Timeless Bros, Heyday or S12 variants, but the tuning is imo the most fun and musical of the bunch.

@@Strizz484 tonal balance is better on the Hook. The S12 has a unique treble, for example when listening to shakers, there seems to be less “bite” in the treble, even though the quantity of treble is a lot. One thing that I've noticed about the planar war is that after the explosive release of the timeless, it all seemed like companies were releasing one of their own versions of the timeless instead of addressing the issues that it had (or worsening the issue, looking at you dioko). I still believe that planars have the opportunity to sweep the budget market, or even higher budgets, but after the one-two punch of the dioko and the stellaris, interest slowed and the market stagnated. I bet if someone were to release some kind of planar or planar-tweeter combo with smoother, warmer treble and a contoured bass shelf, it would still sweep the price range. The heydey does get close, but still ultimately has that same spike. I'm just so disappointed that planars were seen as a marketing label, rather than, yknow, a driver.

Does the Aful P5 actually have unit variation? Because of the tuning tech that was implemented inside the P5, there are reports of the signature changing based on the output impedance of the amp it's plugged into. SuperReviews graphed the P5 with different impedance adapters, and the results are interesting. As the output impedance raises, the bass raises and the treble lowers. I hear that same signature change when I switch between low-z and hi-z mode on my Singxer SA-1 (it has a switch that alters the output impedance)

i got the IE300 on sale and they are probably still my favorite (and most expensive) iems in my collection. i like a little more excitement so unfortunately i find the tuning of the galaxy buds for example to "boring" for me

I think your list was pretty close to how I would organize things, though that's not really a surprise since your collab with Letshuoer is now my favorite stock tuned IEM and is at the top of my sub $300 go to list along side my EQd Aria SEs. The EQ on the Aria kept me from buying a set of KATOs. I love the look of the matte silver KATOs though, so who knows, maybe I'll buy them anyway at some point.

@@User-s2f3s The case has nickel which can cause infection.

It caused it to me too, the liquid leaking and the crusts until I had to require to get a medical treatment. I called Samsung and they told me it is because one doesn't notice how long they are in the ear and that produces infection. I am not sure of that because I only used them to listen music, as much as any wired iem. as doodlebu4947 says apparently is the nickel but I think it could be also the metallic finish overheating them, as the worst to me was when using while traveling between cities with the sun and heat, besides in their sucessors Samsung isn't using metal anymomre. Is a pity because the sound is perfect, I can choose in my Samsung bass enhancement for a few songs that require it, while for the most of them the natural one is enough. I am thinking in getting a 7Hrz Timeless AE but for now I am using just a Sony MDRXB55AP with JVC spiral dots and a tiny bit of eq, I was a bit disappointed of purchasing expensive iems and hyped sibilants chi-fi

With my Etymotic Er2se I have a hard time choosing a higher price iem. It’s besting so many $200 iems and I love the neutrality and tune so much, I would love even more detail or punch but too much money is too much and too low is too close to the Etymotic value/quality offer.

Timmy also doesn't seem to like the mid-bass, which is found in almost every music library. IEMs companies started to return FR to mid-bass because they saw that FRs like B2 Dusk etc. are garbage! :))

well, this does it! if anyone had any doubts about these streamers or reviewers being full of shit, this video is proof enough. all the amazing things they said about the kato, for example, went through the window. Now the kato is boring. not worth it. have to start to curate my trustworthy channels. channels run by kids... I should know better.
