Exactly, it's a flawed sequel, but considering certain ones before this one, Kills was enjoyable and fun to see in Theaters. And I agree, James Jude, to me, is the Kane Hodder of Michael Myers, has the role down perfectly. And I like all the Michael actors. Same with Vincente DiSanti in the "Happy Halloween" fanfilm.

If they took the humor out of the film, would’ve been much better. Also the social commentary with the mob vs mental patient was unnecessary
@MutaScale3 жыл бұрын
@@ArthurKillingsworthJr the humor, I get, some worked, some didn't. But the commentary on mob mentally isn't a bad idea, and there was good points to be made (confusing an innocent patient for Michael for starters). My view is that they pulled the trigger on the end of it (the patient offing himself out of fear) at the end of the second act, maybe give the buildup and conclusion more time to simmer beforehand.

The reason you dislike Warlock is the reason I think he was the best Michael in the franchise. His movement and mannerisms really sell the whole "He's not a man, he's a force of nature, the essence of pure evil" idea. Like for example, there's this scene where he's chasing Laurie and he walks down some stairs. Now a normal person will look down while going down stairs so they can see where they're going, but Michael just looks straight ahead, almost like he doesn't even acknowledge the stairs exist. He only sees his objective (Laurie), not the obstacle in his path. In the first movie, Loomis says "I watched him for fifteen years, sitting in a room staring at a wall, not seeing the wall, seeing past it, seeing this night" I feel like Warlock's performance really exhibits that quote.

Rob Zombie's Halloween 2007 is the first Halloween film I ever saw, and it has a special place in my heart. 1978 and 2007 Myers are both amazing in my mind, since they represent different ways death can come for you. Castle's Michael lurks in the shadows and kills as silently as possible. Mane's version [really Rob's I guess?] is brutal, erratic, torturous, pretty much most people's worst fear when it comes to dying - slow, sadistic, and painful. He hits like a truck, and then runs you over backwards. Then forwards again, then back again, etc. The original Myers was the Shape, a living shadow that stalked and swallowed the life of who or what ever It deemed so. Tyler Mane's Myers was... well, the Monster. A silent brute of evil so solid that if you hit him, *you* would be the one to break. They were both unstoppable in different ways, and I fully believe they should both be given the respect they deserve.

Having recently rewatched Rob Zombie's Halloween, I'm sold on Tyler Mane as the best and scariest version of Myers. There's a scene where he sprints at Laurie, spearing her over the balcony to the ground below. That's it, no stabbing, no killing, just a 7ft Michael Myers running at full speed towards someone... Easily the most terrifying thing you'd ever see if you stood in her place.

I don’t want my Michael (in the non-Zombie timeline, at least) to be a vicious, brutal Jason clone. I want him cold, silent, and efficient, killing as dispassionately as possible. To each their own.
@BareBandSubscription3 жыл бұрын
But you realize he’s exactly what you describe towards the end there, right? He’s effectively doing both. He’s perfectly replicating and expanding on Carpenter’s and Castle’s original rendering of the character, in terms of his behavior, while delivering the kind of slasher thrills that are severely absent from mainstream horror releases. Yes, blood and guts wasn’t the point of the original movie, but considering how Courtney plays the role and all these fascinating little character moments he gets, it’s hardly fair to act like he’s not effectively playing the role to the T of what Castle did, as far as movement and, again, behavior. They’re absolutely nailing it in these new movies as far as Myers is concerned, regardless of whatever other issues there are, especially in Kills. I really think Halloween fans need to untie the newer films from how the original was shot, lit, and how Myers was always framed like an eerie obstruction, often in the periphery, and their desire to have seen that done again in these new movies, because at this point you’re only judging the end result for what it isn’t, and not for what it is. I’d love to see someone take an honest crack at interpolating Carpenter’s original approach one day, but the reality is that that movie already exists, and it’s called John Carpenter’s Halloween.

Totally agree with your #1🔥 James Jude Courtney for me is the first Myers (aside from Tyler Mane) where his mannerisms felt like more than basic direction, like there was actual craft and purpose in it. Feeling like an actual character with motivation as opposed to a stuntman following stage direction Halloween Kills really is the prime example of this. The way Michael stabs the guy over the table and keeps turning to grab another knife, is a mixture of creepy, aggressive, and somewhat juvenile which I found hilarious. The way he gets up after his mask is taken off and looks at Karen, and his reaction to the mob, before picking it back up is awesome, like an old cowboy about to have his last standoff. And the way he moves during the fight seems to show some vulnerability as if he’s being overwhelmed which makes me wonder how much humanity is still present. But hands down my favorite moment with him, is after he kicks the car door and makes the girl shoot herself. The way he gets out and tilts his head down at her is so unsettling and badass. Does he remember her from the 2018 film? Is he checking out her dead body like a creep? Or his he just admiring how he couldn’t have pulled off that kill again if he tried, and he’s admiring his craft? There’s so much about this portrayal I love and I can’t wait for Halloween Ends.

Is it me or does Don Shanks hold the knife like he does in the picture you showed for the entire movie?

It goes like this. 1. Tyler Mane, the obvious size that makes Myers even more daunting with a sheer physicality & anger portrayed that really works for his version & just makes him the most intense and memorable. He still knows when to draw it back though & has I believe the most passion for the industry and character. 2. James Jude Courtney, I feel like he’s the middle ground between the other two and thus the second to best. He has some of the physicality of Mane with some of the more subtle touch of Castle. So like Castle just more actively engaging. 3. Nick Castle, the originator, has that old school eerie mystique to him and attention to subtle movements but past that nothing that puts him above the other two.

I love James Jude Courtney's portrayal but i honestly think that if they make another film after Halloween Ends, i think they should get Aaron Armstrong to play a full time full length movie Michael Myers. I wanna see what he can do with the character for a full time full length film!!

I get why people dislike the H4 mask but I always considered it #2 just for that lightning shot alone. It’s one of the few masks that stick with me. Also James Jude Courtney is the definitive Michael. Same level as Kane Hodder and Robert Englund.

@@Bavarian_Lifting definitely. I know people are divided on Zombie’s take, but that one is so memorable to me. Mostly because of the sheer brutality of Michael.

Class video Cody! 1. James Jude Courtney 2. George P Wilbur Honestly don't rank Nick Castle at all. I think everyone just jumps on him as it was the first ever Halloween movie

James Jude Courtney is the definitive Michael Myers. His brutality, his curiosity, his ferociousness, everything that we as fans loved about Michael he took and ramped it up to 100! Also, I agree, I hate when they show Michael’s eyes. But I LOVE that we can’t see his good eye and we can sometimes see the damaged blind eye glimmer through

1) Nick Castle/ Tony Moran (unmasked)- best actor to play Michael Myers! Also, the best walk and the sneakiness that he added to the character. 2) Dick Warlock- creepiest Michael Myers, love the long take scene when he was walking on the street to the hospital, favorite kill is when killed the nurse and lift her up with the scalpel 3) James Jude Courtney- balanced Michael Myers, brutal like Mane and Wilbur, creepy walk like Castle and Warlock. 4) George Wilbur ( Tom Morga/ A Michael Lerner)- Mysterious Michael Myers, brutal and scary concurrently as the character, love his walk especially the hallway scene in curse of Michael myers, favorite kills is the shotgun scene in return of Michael Myers and the surgical machete with the doctors in the curse of Michael myers 5) Donald Shanks- emotional Michael Myers, like his slower pace of his walk in the movie, like the scene where Dr. Sam Loomis fights Michael with the 2X4 6) Chris Durand- Animalistic Michael Myers, love durand portrayal of Myers, like his walk and the homage to the kill of Laurie Boyfriend similar to Halloween 2. 7) Tyler Mane- Brutal/ enormous Michael Myers, very brutal with the kills and his 6’8 appearance was imposing to his victims. I enjoy his performance as Myers but I have mixed feelings for the Rob Zombie’s series. 8) Brad Loree- Halloween: resurrection is the worst movie in the original series, but I enjoy his performance as the character. I thought he was brutal and had a nice walk chasing Laurie in the beginning of the movie. The funniest scene in the movie is Busta Rhymes wearing the Myers costume and yelling at the real the Myers lmao.

for me Halloween 78 and H2 is a spectre, he's here one minute, gone the next. An almost ethereal being that can turn solid at any moment and kill you. Halloween 2018 and kills is more like a juggernaut. He's flesh and blood, doesnt really disappear and repear as if hes a ghost but still almost supernatural non the less, at the least he's a superhuman. That's the biggest distinction between the two portrayls for me.

hey cody love your rankings man...i have a cool video suggestion...how bout a ranking of all halloween theme songs i think that would be dope considering how bad ass those themes are
@aqualiens40803 жыл бұрын
So the way I rank them is a little bit different. When I say that, I'm referring to the Michael Myers of the original 1978 classic. With him, I cannot give credit to just one or two people. The original Michael was a group effort, and I acknowledge all of the people that made it possible and contributed to all of the elements we all came to know and love about the character. I also separate the performances of George P. Wilbur and James Jude Courtney, and all because there are big differences. That being said...here goes. 10. Don Shanks (Halloween 5) 9. Brad Loree (Resurrection) 8. George P. Wilbur (Halloween 4) - With 10-8, my rankings are more a product of their respective films and/or how they looked more than anything else. They moved alright and they did the best the could with what they were given. 7.-6. Tyler Mane (Zombie-verse) / James Jude Courtney (Halloween Kills) - With 7 and 6, they are tied here because I can't decide which one to put ahead of the other in regards to why they're ranked this low. With that said, while they were better than the 3 I ranked before them, they were entirely too brutal. With Zombie's Michael, that's what Zombie wanted, and as an entirely new Michael, I can respect and forgive him that. With Courtney's portrayal in 'Kills', though...this is supposed to be a continuation of the original 1978 film and Carpenter's vision. This is an old man (in his 60's / will be close to 70 in 'Ends') that is somehow far stronger and far more brutal than even Zombie's Michael ever dreamed of being. It's ridiculous to me and doesn't make sense, and it resembles Carpenter's vision in no way, shape, or form. He doesn't even move like the original except in one or two scenes. He's just an aimless, mindless juggernaut. Don't get me wrong, he's still intimidating as hell. He's just too brutal is all. It also doesn't help this performance at all that the equally mindless writers clearly have no idea what they want this Michael to be, and it shows. If it wasn't for the fact that I love the look of this 'Kills' outing, he would've been lower on the list. 5. Chris Durand (Halloween H20) - Did a decent enough job picking up where Warlock and the cast/crew of the original film left off. I know the mask situation in that film was awful, but I liked the actor/stuntman well enough for what he had to accomplish. 4. James Jude Courtney (Halloween (2018)) - To me, Courtney did a much better job in his first outing. There was still enough of 'The Shape' to him in his movements and mannerisms. He wasn't over-the-top ridiculously brutal. Yes, there were a couple pretty harsh kills, but nothing like the following film. In the end, he felt enough like an aged continuation of the original for my taste. My enjoyment of 2018 makes me dislike 'Kills' even more sometimes. 3. George P. Wilbur (Halloween 6) - I absolutely adored the way this Michael looked and moved. I know he wasn't on the level of some of the others, but I loved him. The mask looked great and Wilbur had clearly taken enough with him from 4 to fully make this one his own. This is one of the few Michaels that I can say genuinely terrified me as a kid. 2. The Cast/Crew of Halloween (1978) - As I mentioned above, I fully acknowledge the original group effort that went into making a slasher film icon that would stand the test of time. Starting with Debra Hill - may she rest in peace - who was technically the very first appearance we see of Michael Myers in the franchise in that legendary opening single shot where her hands grasp Michael's first kitchen knife, his first mask, and his first victim. She also portrayed the adult Michael in the scene where Tommy Doyle sees his silhouette across the street while trying to spook Lindsay Wallace. Honestly one of the most unnerving shots of the Shape. Will Sandin, for giving the evil its first and one of its most haunting faces. Tommy Lee Wallace, for portraying Michael for the infamous closet scene. Tony Moran for his portrayal during the unmasking scene. And of course, Nick Castle, for giving the Shape what should have remained as his signature walk and economy of movement. 1. Dick Warlock (Halloween II (1981)) - I don't care what anybody says...Dick Warlock took what the first film established about Michael Myers and perfected it. Not only is Warlock's portrayal my favorite, I also consider it the best statistically, and by quite a wide margin. To me, this is the ultimate summation of John Carpenter's vision of the Shape. It IS the Shape. He moves like a specter, almost completely without sound or hindrance. It's as if the very air around him parts just for him. He is the definition of not human in this movie. This film terrified me more than any other in the franchise as far as the cold, unrepentant darkness that lies beneath that mask and boiler suit. It makes me so angry when people use those 2 seconds of him coming through that metal/glass hospital door to condemn Warlock's performance across the rest of the film. I ask you to walk straight into an obstruction like that without breaking stride and tell me it doesn't stagger your movement for a moment. That's what happens in that 2 seconds, and you act like he just Terry Crewes robot walks his way through the whole film. His movement here is actually incredibly fluid and again, very ghost-like. I appreciate your sentiment, but please don't let that 2 seconds be your final judgment of this portrayal. Just as well, while I think this movie still wasn't all that brutal, his parts in this film's kills are the creepiest and scariest of any film in the series. It's the only portrayal of Michael that stills gives me chills to this very day without fail.

You never notice Annie getting her throat cut in 1978 until three years ago? Hmm, so not only did you miss the scene in the car where he slashes her, but you missed her cut throat as she was posed on the bed, and then in Halloween II when Brackett looks at her we see her obviously slashed throat? Oh well, after all of these decades, I only just now realized that the woman that comes to get Dr. Loomis in Halloween II is actually Marion from the first movie!!!! 🤣 How did I miss that for so long????

Myself and a few other channels I watch seem to be confident the beatdown Michael received in Kills and managed to get back up cemented his paranormal essence. I'd have trouble believing even Mane's Michael could've survived that. I love the scene where I assume he's trying to find a knife he likes, that was intense!

here’s something to think about: how do you think the actors that play michael (or any serial killer) feel when they watch their movie? do you think they get just as scared of the character like the audience does? or do y’all just think that the horror effect doesn’t work for them?

I definitely agree that the guy from the most recent 2 is definitely 100% my absolute favorite Michael Myers.. The menacing and uncomfortable body language and his creativity when it comes to kills definitely cement him as my all time favourite. I definitely agree that 2018 could have been better but in my opinion Kills is the most Perfect Halloween movie of all time. It perfectly displayed the brutality that I've always wanted from that character.

If you took Laurie from H20 with the 2018 and Halloween Kills Michael and have them face off. Holy shit it would be the greatest 3rd act for any Halloween movie! James Jude Courtney's portrayal is amazing because he acts and moves like Nick Castle but has the intimidating figure and the anger and aggression like Tyler Maine had. Imo its the best way to play as Michael
