To this day, I still think Halloween 2018 is one of the best Halloween films in a longgg time. I feel like it was a great opportunity for people to feel afraid of Michael, and root for Laurie again . Compared to the more goofy and chaotic takes on his character in the past, it was a great modern adaptation of Michael Myers

It's the worst. Wasteful plots/characters, entirely contrived storyline and dialogue, memeification of michael myers ruining the character worse than resurrection, the only redeeming qualities being shot for shot ripped off from previous movies and adding nothing new of value. The Force Awakens of Halloween and like it responsible for it's own abysmal trilogy, at least Resurrection was rightfully panned and didn't spawn off any more abominations.

As a huge supporter of Halloween 4, I'm happy that it's grown on you. I think what your top 4 all has in common is that almost all the human characters in those films are either sympathetic or they have likable qualities. That makes Michael's evil stand out more and makes them more enjoyable to watch.

Halloween 5 was the first Halloween movie I saw. As a 10-12 year old staying up late on Halloween watching TV, I came across this movie and was intrigued. I realized how messy it is now, but nostalgia makes it better. It's probably number 5 or 6 on my list.

I might be crazy for this but H5 is actually 5th place in my Halloween list just slightly above Halloween Kills (I know this is VERY controversial) But i just can't hate H5 and every time i watch it i always find another excuse to like it even more even if i dont intend to like it more.

I still think Tina should have died like 50 minutes earlier but when she does die I can watch the rest of the movie without being too pissed off until the man in black shit at the very end when he breaks Michael out, when Loomis beats Michael to a pulp and collapses the movie should have ended right there and the man in black and Thorne stuff should have been taken out altogether and it’s my second worst in the franchise.

Thank you, Cody, for keeping Halloween III: Season of the Witch at your number two for all these rankings. That movie is a masterpiece of underrated horror cinema and DESERVES to be seen as a part of this franchise. There’s just something about H2 (1981). I get that some people don’t like the increased gore and feel like it takes away from the creepiness, but not for me. I think H2 was such a perfectly crafted second chapter to the night he came home. IMO it’s an upgrade on 1978 in every way.

@@amirphoenix2327 fair enough, I would hope you actually tried to get invested and paid attention to the subtle genius taking place more so with cinematography and the delivery of the concept. It’s not the best movie ever but it’s undeniably one of the best ever in its execution. I don’t like making assumptions but I assume that you had some sort of preconceived notion of how you would feel about the movie going into it and just ran with that. I also assume you were taking your eyes off the movie quite often between your phone and whatever else was going on in the house. I could be wrong but I find it hard to believe that someone could give their full attention to the movie, paying attention to the subtle but interesting nuances and not at least coming away with appreciation for the movie if not all out enjoyment.

@@amirphoenix2327 well I can’t fault you for that. I appreciate the slow tense build up with the silent stalking to the eventual climax of affective albeit tame gore. I can see where you’re coming from especially if you’re on the younger side and you’re used to a faster paced mor dynamic and eventful story, but I appreciate how Halloween does what it does with what it had. I’ve seen all kinds of horror movies and while I prefer the more intense side of horror, I love the subtlety and creep factor Halloween has. Though I love Michael, the real star of the show in the original movies for me is loomis. The way he describes the killer and his delivery always captivates me in a way that no other horror movie has without some sort of intensity or amped up carnage candy.

A late comment, but I'm so glad you gave a mention to Black Christmas as being one of the precursors to JC's Halloween! I would also argue that Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a precursor to Halloween as well, along with The Town that Dreaded Sundown (1976). TCM set in stone a lot of the tropes slashers used to this day, Black Christmas, a lot of people consider Jess the first final girl, and The Town That Dreaded Sundown had the killer POV that is used in Halloween. I haven't seen the brand new one yet, so can't rank them all. However, my favorite one is the OG Halloween and my least favorite few are Kills, Resurrection, and the Rob Zombie versions. I love how you have always stood up for RZ’s H2. It shows real character when you always stand by a film regardless what others think. I also think it’s interesting you view H1, H2 and H4 a complete trilogy. Yeah I’m also likewise pretty letdown by the new trilogy and the good thing of Halloween having many timelines is that you can literally pick the films and make a continuity of your own. Good ranking Cody. I'd place Zombie's H2, and H20 a little lower, but that's just me. Off the top of my head, here's my ranking: 1. Halloween (Classic on the level of Psycho. Yes maybe a tad overrated, and a little slow at points, but a legit classic, and rather classy horror film that helped raise the bar. Excellent cliffhanger ending) 2. Halloween 2 1981' (Terrific visual palette, great Myers, spooky location, best chase in the series in the boiler room and elevator location, nice Halloween season vibe, good kills and a solid finale) 3. Halloween Ends (Decent opening scene, great Myers despite him being weak, some interesting themes and imagery, some good kills and FX, a solid finale in the kitchen and ballsy death for Myers. Not all bad, just not entirely what a final film should have been. Needed a little more Myers on his own, and better pacing at times) 4. Halloween 2018 (I don't love any of the new films BTW. A solid new entry with Laurie back, some good kills, a nice first stalking reintroduction with Myers, interesting if sloppy twist with Sartain, and a cool idea for the finale setting. A+ Myers as well, but I still can't rate the film higher than a C+) 5. Halloween 4 (Solid entry, but a little bland and with a lame Myers mask. HATE how Myers "dies".) 6. Tie between Halloween Kills and Halloween 6 theatrical cut. (Kills is a dumb fun music video comic book, Curse has scares and is much creepier though. Both feature a great Myers) 7. Halloween 3 (Love the look of this film and the ideas! Visually it looks like H2 the most) 8. Halloween H20 (Vanilla, bland, bad Myers mask for much of it, too Scream like... music, but good plot and a nice way to kill off Myers!) 9. Halloween 2007 (Yuck, but the final 15 minutes isn't the worst ending to a film. Liked the empty pool location, and some of the photography at night is pretty good) 10. Halloween 5 (Mostly boring junk, but there is a pinch of decent mood, and a couple of good kills. Laundry shoot scene was inspired!) 11. H2 2009 (I dislike most of this, but the idea at the hospital in the opening was fine, and I liked the dead bodies piled up outside the hospital) 12. Resurrection (Sort of a good idea for an early 2000's film, but lame execution all around. Awful Laurie death)

My ranking (disclaimer: haven’t seen H3 yet) 1. Halloween 1978 - the GOAT 2. Halloween Kills - first Halloween movie I’ve ever seen in theaters and had an awesome experience seeing it. This movie is badass, and best Myers IMO 3. Halloween 2018 - really good follow up to the OG 4. Halloween 2 - I really like myers in this, in my opinion one of the best, and has just a creepy atmosphere and great kills 5. Halloween 4 - entertaining movie, good characters, but yeah the worst mask 6. Halloween Ends - weekest out of the newer trilogy IMO. A lot of things I do like about this movie but there’s also a lot of stuff I hate don’t like about, ending was satisfying, it was fine. I get the story they were telling, but it just didn’t fit for me. Especially when it’s the last movie in the trilogy. I can respect them making bold moves, but it just was wrong timing. 5.5/10 7. Halloween H20 - honestly this movie is kinda basic IMO one of the worst myers IMO, but the ending was really good. I liked that. But overall it’s kinda boring. 8. Halloween 2007 - agree with pretty much everything you said about this movie. 9. Halloween 2009 - just not a fan 10. Appreciate you giving H2O so much love. I always liked Chris’s Michael. The masks are an issue, but it’s not like it was his fault. One thing that his Michael added was the way he would lower himself down from the ceiling with one arm. The absolute control he had was perfectly Michael, and one of the coolest things I think in the franchise.

I prefer rob zombie’s Halloween over ends, kills, resurrection, h5, h6, and h2o simply based on Tyler mane’s Michael Myers. His performance single handedly made me appreciate them more because of how absolutely terrifying he was in these movies. He is by far the scariest Michael Myers has ever been even to this day and I can appreciate that. I also do appreciate a different approach of discovering why Michael is evil. There are moments in the movie that are the best in series, like Michael breaking the window and the end.

H20 can be bad to some or great to others but it will always be in my heart. I saw it in theaters and I got to see MM get his F-ing head chopped off by his fricking sister who ends the movie breathing just like her brother did. She had become crazy just like him. That moment will never be topped because I NEVER saw it coming. Especially back then. Also the 90’s of it all just feels good. But then you remember Scream 2 exists in this world….where in Scream 1 they watch the first Halloween. 😱😱😱 world breaking. But I love it anyways

I will say that the novelizations of the new DGG Halloween trilogy are all really good. I would argue that the novels are quite a bit better than the movies themselves, and I enjoyed the films well enough, although I agree with all of the issues that Cody pointed out. The novelization of Ends in particular really fleshes out the story and fills in so many plot points. The story feels so much more complete, and it makes a whole lot more sense, too. The balance between Michael and Corey is far better done, too, and has quite a lot more Michael in it, so it doesn't feel like he has had his story hijacked anymore. It also has some neat world-building elements that show how Haddonfield as a whole is still traumatized by the events of the previous two films. Perhaps most importantly, it also includes a handful of more Michael kills. I 100% recommend reading it, as well as the other two novels.

People complain how “pointless” he was or how he took up the movie, to me he was compelling and he also is a representation or a “show” of how evil can affect *anybody* and that there can be a “Michael Myers” anywhere. Evil is an all powerful force. That was the *perfect* way to leave it closed with Myer’s death, *and* leave it open with the example of Corey’s transformation.

Corey was a good character, but he should've been introduced in the 2018 movie then getting his character arc fleshed through Kills and Ends, also he stabbing himself at the end and getting killed by Michael afterwards makes his arc pointless after we get 1h40 of the movie focusing on him, but neverthless i enjoyed Ends more than Kills

13. Halloween 3:Season of the witch Love the Anthology idea, however I wasn't invested or interested in this one and it's just odd to have in the franchise. 12. Halloween 6:The curse of Michael Myers Horrible installment. Has a few good kills and actors but that's all I can say about this messy plot of a movie 11. Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 Besides The hospital opening and Annie's death scene, not much to say about this gritty over the top disaster 10. Halloween 5: The revenge of Michael Myers Love Jaime, don't really like this movie or the mask 9. Halloween resurrection I can have fun with this one but it's still a really bad 2000s found footage mess that ruins itself within the first 15 minutes. 8. Rob Zombie's Halloween Decent remake but only within the last half. Didn't even need the first half exploring how Micheal became a killer when in the original he was born as one. 7. Halloween Kills A fun gory slasher that delivers it's title with great acting and fight scenes, however gives dumb plot points to drag out it's run time. 6. Halloween 2 A good sequel to the original but it's pretty boring in the middle besides a few good kills. Luckily the last 30 minutes saves itself. 5. Halloween 4: The return of Michael Myers Great sequel that brings back Myers. Offers a great Young lead,A fun 90 minutes,and a killer ending. ( That ruins itself for it's upcoming sequel) 4. Halloween Ends A big controversial pick but I think this finale is damn good. Delivers a fresh new direction, interesting story,and a satisfying last 20 minutes. Deserves more recognition. 3. Halloween H20 A great revisit back to the franchise with a wonderful cast, great Myers and once again badass 20 minutes. ( That again ruined itself with the upcoming sequel) and I'm annoyed by them using the Scream soundtrack. 2. Halloween 2018 Iconic return back to it's original roots and delivers the best version of Laurie. Solid, effective,and well written. 1. Halloween 1978 An Iconic classic Slasher Nothing more.

I just thought Halloween Ends had the sloppiest plot advancement ever. JLC's daughter str8 up fell for the main character like, immediately, and escalated their relationship so unbelievably fast, completely disregarding her own trauma. I loved the group kills in the previous movie tho. Badass.
