Thank you for reading my book! The characters were inspired by several gamer/streamer behaviors I noticed during horror "let's plays" but, they were not specifically based on any KZbinrs (sigh of relief). Honestly, I find it weird when people write fanfics about real people (KZbinrs, Kpop Idols, etc.), so I understand the icky feeling if you started thinking that. This was my first book and appreciate your honest feedback. ♡

I think it was just too many references that could relate to the guys, like the bright blue eyed guy almost coming close in subscriber count to the main guy (definitely jack and mark vibes) mark starts his videos with hello there everybody as well, Felix just had a baby, Gab is usually the more quiet one who opens up around her friends etc the writing was so good for the preview I read but I definitely see how it could be interpreted

If you listen to podcasts and haven't already listened to it, "The Magnus Archives" is something I think you would really enjoy. I listened to it years ago before I actually worked in a haunted archive and was recently listening to it again. It has excellent voice acting and story. Also the professional aspect of the main character's jobs is pretty accurate! Truely among the best horror stories I have encounted.

Watching a lot of booktube, I understand the passion people have for their favourite books. It becomes a problem when you disagree with some people’s passion as they tend to turn ugly. Some of my favourite booktubers have disliked books Ive loved and vice versa and I just find it a shame in some ways that we can’t just enjoy it all.

Omg this. I've had a lot of people get shocked when they find out that I'll just stop reading a book if I find I'm not liking it, but I just can't stand forcing myself to read a book I'm not enjoying as a college student. I really don't have enough time to be casually reading anyways, so spending time reading books I'm not enjoying is just sooooo hard for me. I've just stopped doing it LOL

As someone who watches a lot of booktube and a lot of gaming content, this is a very fun crossover :) As a side note, if you are ever struggling for recs, some channels that read a lot of/primarily horror: booksandlala (my number one rec, she's my favorite), Jan Agaton, Katie Colson, Riley Marie (though she is equal amounts romance).

As someone who suffers from neck tension and migraines I recently purchased a tablet stand for my Koobo and a bluetooth controller for turning the pages. It has helped immensely; no more bendy neck! Excellent list overall and I was excited to see Where He Can't Find You on the top list! Thank you for the recommendations!

I'm so happy you love Nosferatu too! I saw it yesterday and was blown away! Amazing film! It was a perfect blend of beauty and grotesque. That scene when Orlok first drank Thomas's blood and you could hear the sloshing sound when he sucked in literally made me grimace in horror and disgust. It was awesome. I think everyone did an amazing job. Lily-Rose and Bill in particular. It has quickly risen to become one of my favourite films. I think I might have too see it again on cinema.

Gab, this was sooooo thrilling. I'm not feeling well today. Came home after work, crawled into bed looking for EZSmall or just comforting Gab voice. THIS WAS SO COZY! I honestly can't believe almost 2hrs went by so quickly, I wanted MORE books😂I used to LOVE to read. I still do, I'm just too stubborn to go get bifocals (I'm only 43😅). Anyway, this video has renewed my love for reading, so if nothing else, you've gotten 1 person in here to pick up reading again. AND I'm cozy and soothed just like I was looking for. Came for Gab and the gang, stayed for snuggly bookclub. Love from Iowa, USA. ❤

Thanks for helping me fill out my reading list for this year. Your recommendations of Episode 13 and NOGOA were spot on hits for me. Also, I discovered Darcy Coates years ago and have loved every book! My commentary on your Night Vale review: I actually agree on your thoughts from a book format perspective. I love Night Vale but have only listened to the podcast. It’s weird and quirky and the episodes are a lovely compact listen for commuting to work. But I don’t see how this could ever work in book format. So anyone curious about Night Vale should check out the podcast first and foremost and if that doesn’t click then definitely avoid book version. I also love Garth Nix so appreciate the warning on that novella so I don’t impact my love of the Sabriel series! Thank you 🙏

I don't really read horror bc i'm a coward, but i loved hearing Gab's book thoughts. It's just fun hearing ppl's thoughts on things they're passionate about. That being said, i do have a book rec: A Cosmology of Monsters by Shaun Hamill. It's a book that focuses on family dynamics and how trauma effects relationships and also there's a monster. The story wears its Lovecraft inspiration on its sleeve (as in the dad is a huge fan of Lovecraft and other sci-fi/horror stuff) but i think it works pretty well for the setting. I quite liked it, so i'd be interested to hear Gab's (or anyone else's) thoughts on it!

I would like to recommend "Graveyard Shift" by M. L. Rio (disclaimer: it's not really Horror but has spooky vibes, and focuses more on a mystery/exploration of the human mind). It is a short novella following a group of people who regularly (accidentally) meet at midnight at a graveyard until they find a fresh open grave one night (including the grave digger). Again not fully horror so I don't know if it is the perfect match for you but maybe you are interested or someone else who is not entirely interested in full blown horror, but slightly spooky vibes!

I personally has always been bad with horror (but I'm trying to overcome it bit by bit), so I'm really eager to read some of the books you recommended! Also (it's not horror, but it is unsettling in a way) try reading short stories collection called Life Ceremony by japanese author Sayaka Murata - she writes about how in the future humanity is going to change the way we deal with dead people (their bodies to be exact) and it's SO COOL AND SICK AT THE SAME TIME. These short stories are not really connected to each other, but it does feel like they all can exist in the same universe

if you like sci fi and fantasy books with a musical/tonal based magic or sci fi system, I highly recommend Crystal Singer by Anne McCaffrey. It's a sci fi series with fantasy vibes where crystals are harvested to power ships and devices, etc. by Crystal Singers, who have to match the vibration tones of the crystals to successfully harvest them from a specific, very dangerous planet.

I love this! For Garth Nix, maybe check out The Left-handed Booksellers of London? I haven't continued the series yet, but he's one of my favorite authors so I now have signed copies of the first two. (From stores, not events unfortunately). I also loved his middle grade Keys to the Kingdom series when I was younger. I'd also be curious to see whether you would like Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries. Not sure why, but it feels like it would fit your vibe. I randomly picked up Ghoster at a used bookstore, so now I'm excited to try it out! I hope we can see more videos like this!

I wasn’t much of a reader before, but last year, I went on vacation and decided to pick up a book to help relax my mind. While browsing, I came across your Goodreads account and noticed you liked books by Darcy Coates. Wow, thank you so much.❤ I never expected a book to hold my attention like that. I’ve always struggled to stay focused and would lose interest easily, which used to make me feel a little sad. But the books and authors you recommend really seem to resonate with me. It’s spooky season all year round! 👻

A Head Full of Ghosts is what got me back into horror because I liked that you couldn't tell if it was an exorcism or if it was all in her head.

Oooooh I’m excited to watch this one! I’m an indie author that has written quite a few horror romance novellas and horror short stories, and I have a ton of friends and acquaintances who also write horror and had pretty big years last year so I’ll be interested to see how many of these titles I know!! This will be a cozy weekend watch for sure!

A few months ago you recommended Where He Can’t Find You by Darcy Coates and it immediately reignited my love for reading again. Ever since I’ve read so many of her books and I love them!! I’m currently listening to the Whispering Dead series to fall asleep and I’m loving it. Thanks for the rec ❤

I've added so many more to my TBR! Hearing about your previous books has really helped me start to find my niche in the horror genre that I enjoy, because overall I love reading books. I LOVED Dead Silence and also felt a bit 'eh' about Ghost Station. It came off a bit weaker imo. The premise was interesting and I was expecting to be on the edge of my seat like I was with Dead Silence, but Ghost Station felt more like 'when is this going to end'. Bummer. I'm still excited to read the one she has coming out in April, though.

I’ve been looking to expand on the horror genre, it’s only something I’ve branched out into within the past two years- and VERY SLOWLY- so when I say that I added at least half of your C through S tier to my tbr on goodreads throughout this video, know that I am STOKED

I'm very similar in regards to experiencing sad/tough emotions in all sorts of media. It sticks to me like glue and I end up viewing my life for the next week or so through the lens of whatever I consumed. My partner LOVES that kind of stuff. I still feel like Cyberpunk Edgerunners owes me an apology for how it made me feel haha but my partner loved it for all the reasons it made my heart feel bruised. I FEEL YOU. Thanks for this! Loved hearing your reviews =]

I'll definitely look up your Goodreads and check some of these books! I think there has been a lil confusion with the Nigh Vale book. It's meant to be transcripts of the podcast, it somehow makes more sense in the context of a radio show lol Maybe you'll enjoy their actual novels more

Love the stream! I hope you do this next year too. :) Of the books you read, I also read Ghoster, Way of Kings, September House, and Her Little Flowers. I enjoyed all of them, but September House was my favorite--soooo funny! I read a lot of books, mostly scifi, fantasy, and historical fiction, but thanks to you, I dabble in horror. Appreciate you chatting about books on your streams and keep the discussion coming!

Really great video, I really enjoyed it! I hope Gab keeps the book club going. I recommend branching out a bit from horror into dark fantasy and dark sci-fi. There's some really interesting stuff out there! I recommend Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman, the first half of the book is so great. Crossing France in the middle of the Black Death feels completely surreal. And I felt so heard with that comment about Dutch in Nos4a2. My first language is French, and whenever authors put French in their books, it's never written right. Like, just take two minutes to have someone go over it. Totally breaks my immersion.

Thank you so much for sharing all of your thoughts on so many books! I'm more of a nonfiction/textbook kind of guy, but if I'm going to read fiction, horror's a good bet. My sister's favourite genre is horror and especially haunted house horror, so ten minutes into watching this vid I had to text her the link, 'cause I know she's gonna want to read everything you slotted into C tier and up!

Oh Gabs, I can't wait to read some of these! Have you ever read any Lucy Foley books? Her books are amazing, they are thrillers. The way these books are written, you get the "Unreliable Character" aspect because you get multiple characters perspectives, you get their development and depths, and I can never figure out how its going to end till the last few "chapters". I hope one day you get to read one!

Oh, and I'm so totally with you Gab. Anything (books/movies/music) that are being depressing *just* to be depressing (rather than "along the way" of a deeper and more broad-reaching narrative concept and journey well balanced and diverse)......I tend to not respect nearly as much. Not only is it One-Trick-Pony-ness.....but making people *feel*......actually isn't THAT tough. And much like movies or tv shows that kill of characters just to cheaply elicit "drama" or "stakes"........content that is being depressing just to take the cheap low easy bar to make people feel (and then leaving the viewer with that....long after the book/movie/music wraps up)......feels divicsive, excessively....manipulative ( like kinda....cheaply so, too-blantantly, ham-handedly, so). Honestly, I don't respect that either.

If you want a true master of horror (at least for me) then read H. P. Lovecraft. His style of horror fiction is the kind where you are inside of a dream which gradually descends into a nightmare and when you awake you are uncertain if the nightmare is over or not Side note: Robert Bloch who was mentioned in this video and I believe placed quite high was a pupil of Lovecraft

Don't know if you have already considered it, but I had a blast with 'Incidents around the House' by Josh Malerman! also (not very horror oriented, but a RIDE of a book that subverts the slasher genre for me) 'I was a Teenage Slasher' by Stephen Graham Jones was a great read!

After your comment on Spite House and how you rated My Throat an Open Grave I really want to reccomend Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury. It's black female led horror about generational trauma and forgotten victims that also happens to have a haunted house. It's really stuck with me and was ny favourite horror read last year. Definitely heed the content warnings that the author helpfully added. So glad to see Christina Henry on the list she's been a fave of mine for a while. Def adding a few to my tbr list!
