I got the 6:00 in the Chanel and love the color. I don't wear a lot of red but this one is perfect for a sophisticated look. But mine was getting crusty during the first hour of wear. I just saw those Tom Ford lipsticks at Nordstrom. The lovely sales person pulled them out of a drawer for me and then I LMAO. I could not believe how teeny tiny they were! No no no…..I don’t care how nice the formula is when I feel like I’m being conned

I totally get this. But, as someone who has only ever finished a balm type of color, I really don't want a lot of product in a lipstick. That being said, that doesn't mean I want to pay the prices that are charged. I would prefer to get less product and pay less, even if that comes at a higher cost per gram. There is a line though.

Oh, Sofia, I am so pleased for your comments about the WA lipsticks. I loved the lipstick colors that I purchased and then …. the lips dried down, enhancing my lip lines, and moved on to the dreaded grittiness. I appreciate your focus on item’s ingredients. I have an allergy to Bismuth Oxychloride which pops up in so many products. At least two of the lipsticks that you reviewed today have it in them. I tried the Merit lipsticks and thought that they were nice. The issue that I had with them is the packaging. I wish that they had a spring way to extract the bullet portion. I am 71 and have both arthritis and neuropathy in my hands and it was a struggle.

I adore the Merit lipsticks - they are so comfortable and not drying on the skin. Even some of my favorite lipsticks like Lisa Eldridge Velvets require me to be careful on how often I wear them as they dry my lips out. I'm really hoping they come out with more purple, brown and orange shades as I need this formula in every color.

For me Kissing lipsticks are the biggest discovery of the year. Usually almost every lipstick would significantly dry out my lips (even formulas like Chanel's Rouge Coco Bloom) but this lipstick doesn't. Also color lasts longer than some mat lipsticks I own and my lips look gorgeous. I got color 90's pink and it is very unique, I will definitely buy more colors from this range, I am really impressed.

I have one of those Chanel lipsticks (3 a.m. I think) I absolutely love it. The formula is so buttery soft, the colors are always very well chosen and the packaging is different from the normal line. And I love it because I know immediately which lipstick it is, without reading the description. Chanel lipsticks are ones of the best if not THE best for me!

I totally agree with you. I returned the Westman. It felt like a light, slick drugstore lipstick that settles to dry finish with no richness. Merit is the Matte of my dreams. The makeup by Mario satin is one of my faves too, feels so lux.

Thank you so much for shedding light on the incredients in a very understandable way. Hydrating formula is one of my top priorities when looking for a lipstick, so I'll be keeping an eye on those incredients from now on! I have noticed that some reviewers automatically assume a formula is hydrating if it has slip, but that is not always the case.

@@Gnv-q2m I would very much agree with on your point on how it feels over time, and after a lipstick has worn out: if my lips feel hydrated, I'm happy, but if they feel drier than before after the inial slip wears off, then it's not for me. I would also add climate (cold & dry in my case) to the list of factors that impact our needs.

Hi Sofia, I have Chanel 7:00. Love the colour and the packaging is stunning. 😍 When I choose a colour I always get what is wearable for me. I don’t look good with dark/strong colours, so I will never buy something like that only because is different and I don’t have in my collection. Tom Ford new lipsticks sound like a robbery. 🤣 Most of the people who reviewed the WA lipsticks have the same opinion like you with one exception: AliAndreea. She put them in a video with best of February and March. The brand recommends to exfoliate the lips and apply a lip balm before applying the lipstick. I don’t want 3 steps when I use a lipstick. Also I don’t have fillers in my lips like AliAndreea and I know a dry lipstick will make my lips look wrinkly. The other brands you mentioned are not for me and I am happy with my cute low ranking Chanel lipstick. 😁 Thanks for sharing!🙂

I purchased 7 out of the 8 Chanel Nuit Blanche lipsticks and I LOVE them. I actually got a backup of the 6:00 and the 2:00 ! The shades in this LE collection are special imo and I have a ton of luxury lipsticks. This formula is so comfortable and light on the lips and is my favorite along with the Prada. $50 is reasonable in the realm of luxury lipsticks.

yeah I guess from my perspective I think it's funny that Chanel launched an evening collection that was meant to offer nighttime glamour colors and everyone just bought the same light pink shade that they always sell. So I don't see the point of spending the $50 unless someone already likes that formula (which I don't love already) and wants to try something less neutral

I do like the shades a lot but it seems like most customers lost the point of the collection and just bought the same pink shade as always. In addition to the price (which I don't think is reasonable but we are now accustomed to it) one of the reasons why I usually rank these lipsticks lower is because when you compare them to others, like Dior, they aren't that different so they become less of a "must have".

This was the video I needed! You are right about the CT lipsticks! I tried the Candy Chic in store, and they DID not last long on my lips at all. The color was ok, I’m like you, like them brighter, lol. I too, need a grippy kind of lipstick as well. Years ago when I the CT lipsticks came out, I thought they were amazing, and lasted long on me, maybe the formula has been changed, idk. But, now they feel kinda slippy. Eh.

I loved the Chanel lipsticks - they’re so moisturizing and easy to use for me - I think that light pink shade would certainly settle for me too… milky colors always do, so,I’m glad I didn’t get that bc I had FOMO when it sold out - but the lipsticks are not super matte but look creamy, not shiny - they’re a light formula, but pigmented, so I can sheer or lay on how I like -they don’t bleed at all in lines but feel so smooth and blur my lip line - I got 2:00 which is a beautiful strawberry and 4:00 which looks like a red with slight brown (it’s ok, but not as unique a color) 4;00 reads like a daytime, easy going red for me that feels as neutral as a red could be - it’s interesting bc they are opaque and dark colors, but something about the formula doesn’t seem too dark or vampy (maybe the smoothness and buildibility of the color makes this happen - pigments but slightly translucent ) - so they can be good daytime, everyday colors, on me - I like bold colors, and these are bold, yet not so much at the same time

They are nice, but I think people are forgetting that they aren't different from what Chanel usually sells in many other colors. I think the allure of the collection is the classy evening shades... but then everyone bought the one average shade lol :)

Thank you for that super honest and thorough review, what a great video! I love that you touch upon ingredients, I find it very interesting and helpful. Now I am a bit sceptical what to expect. I ordered the Chanel 07:00 from their website. Sheerness/soft colour is not a problem for me, I actually prefer it on my lip shape and face. But settleing into fine lines would be a pet peeve, especially for that price and the European no-return-if-you-opened-the-box policy. I'll probably give in to my curiosity, but dang it that would be a bummer!

I noticed in one of your previous videos when you were wearing the WA shade in Pip, it was a bit patchy and started to look dry on your lips as the video progressed. Just watching it change on your lips during the course of your video made me change my mind on getting the new lipsticks from WA. I got a Westman Atelier Christmas gift set from a friend for Christmas, and 2 of the 3 products were already smelling rancid (although it was a current, freshly produced set). Customer service basically didn’t care because it wasn’t a purchase I had made directly from their website myself. First and definitely last experience with this brand for me. I do love the Chanel Rouge Allure formula, on another note.

I purchased the WA lipsticks on released day and got Je Reve + Pique. I wore them each for a day. The color lasted for hours until I ate food so I had to touch up. Never got any gritty texture, it was always very smooth. They don’t feel like matte lipsticks either which I refused to wear. I never found them dryness on my lips or after removal. My only complaint was the $50 cost. However they are refillable and I got the only 2 colors I was interested in so I know I’ll spend less next time.

Hi Sofia, I got Chanel lipstick because of their color but when came it was a little different than promotion, still like it. Tom ford lipstick colors are beautiful and I have thin lips and do not need to paint, but the amount is that much little that I scare to use it up fast😊 first look is so beautiful. The uptown color is beautiful on you and I keep it in my list. Again I need to ask for price regulation on cusmetics, every two three months every item has 5 $ price increase 🤔

CT’s K.I.S.S.I.N.G formula doesn’t work on me and it’s the exact same experience I have with MAC’s Cremesheen formula. They both apply unevenly on my lips and will attach and make evident any minor imperfection. Curiously, I’ve seen that these are the two formulas that most people rave about on both brands. I really don’t understand! I don’t have this issue with any other lipstick formula and my lips aren’t even typically dry or anything. No other lipstick formula does this on my lips 🤷🏻‍♀️ I wish they worked though, because I love the shade ranges. The only way these work is by priming my lips beforehand with the MAC prep and prime lipstick, but it’s an extra step that I don’t care for. I just use the prep and prime so that I can keep using the K.I.S.S.I.N.G and Cremesheen lipsticks that I already own, because I don’t like throwing out makeup and will try to make products that I’ve already bought work for me.

I will have to disagree with you on this one. I have the WA LFG and Chanel's 3:00 and love them. Did not encounter the grittiness you are talking about. In fact, I did not find the WA matte at all and Chanel's velvet version of this one is so much better than their previous ones. I have tried the Merit and Mario and found them just OK, if a bit too drugstore looking. Tom Ford has become a bit of a joke ever since it was bought by Estee Lauder.

I am not saying that the Chanel lipsticks are bad, I just find them overall unimpressive and overpriced for what you get. I think a lot of people are mesmerized by the packaging and prestige of the brand

Looking at ingredient lists can be quite tricky to interpret since what what you see in the list is not necessarily a reflection of quantity from highest to lowest. That is only true for anything present up to the 1% mark...below that it can be randomly anywhere in the ingredient list. Usually the first few ingredients truly are in that order but after that...noone can say, it is part of the trademarks of formulas.

@@christiecruzxo2841me too -- HA can be drying and too much for me - I guess it must be sucking out the moisture of my skin instead of getting it from the environment- and I live in a humid environment! - but it’s the number one issue for me - especially lips ACK! - I don’t know what niaciminide is doing for lips either … I just want moisturizers and occlusives and pretty colors

I look at the ingredients to see if there is anything to justify the price, to better understand the "why" behind the way that the formula feels, and to see if there are major differences between lipsticks. As we have seen here, even some lipsticks with good ingredients failed from a formulation perspective.

On a different note, I actually liked the Chanel Nuit Blanche lipstick that I got...00:00, one of the reds. There can be a lot of variation between shades even within the same line. I usually find colours with more white pigment to be more problematic.

Hi Sophia so you roasted Chanel 😳🤪😡😝🤣 i love it. I got 3 so far and getting one more. I haven’t used velvet matte in recent years, but my absolute favorite, of all times is first light . It was released I think 2016 or 17. That orange red is my color! I have back ups lol but it’s truly matte , nothing like these new lipsticks. I got 00, 2, 7 and getting 6 . 2 was my initial choice cause it reminded me of first light. Well not exactly, I might mix them together, cause 2am is more hydrating, for sure. 00 I chose cause it’s. still has some warm undertones. 7 I don’t really have something like that , well Prada similar, but this one has some luminosity and Prada one is more dry and kind of one color, maybe more pigmented. 6 is the color that I don’t really have either, and wanted something like that, but usually rosewood has more brown, and that’s too cool tone. This one looks interesting, and I think will go well with my red mix dress( some parts warm scarlet red, and other is more cooler red, ox blood) . And of course m I am sucker for their fairytale themes 🤪😂😝Have a blessed day🙏❤️

I liked the Chanel - I want to get more … I got two… but sometimes I get bored if I have too many of the same formula - but I’m tempted to get the bright pink color - forget what number that one is - it’s not the 7:00 pale one but the fuchsia one

Great review! I am also bummed about Westman Atelier. Theirs is the only one formulated without silicones, and I had high hopes for it. Have you heard of the brand Fara Homidi? I like her compacts, but it can be inconvenient to apply in public. I might try Merit since I need my next lipstick in bullet form.

I don’t like the original Merit formula either as it felt drying on my lips. I’m reluctant to try the Matte. I love the Charlotte Tilbury KISSING formula

Some of these lipsticks are so interesting I had my eye on Chanel lipsticks but saving for the Charlotte Tilbury red carpet pink or Candy chic 🍬💕 and a couple new YSL love shine lipsticks and also I just bought like 6 YSL of the older shiny balms before they discontinued them 💄 so there is where all my dollas 💸 are going too 😅😂☺️

Charlotte Tillbury ..Boring .IMO….Chanel beautiful unique .. a night out.. nuit blanc in Paris ..I am older and for me they blur the lines on my lips and leave a stain.. I bought 4.. I must say I love pink/red/ magenta ..fuchsia..however..I think each person needs to try whatever they are interested in maybe swatch in boutique if you can .. I love the CT Kissing formula lippies. They are buildable, long lasting, and pigmented. They feel so soft on the lips and feel moisturizing. Too bad you didn't like them as much. And I have Dior and YSL lippies but these compare equally to them in my opinion. For their price, I feel the CT are an excellent choice. Tom Ford is way too expensive for what you get. Ridiculous. I bought one of the Mario lipsticks in Dumbo. While the color is nice, I didn't find it to feel moisturizing or long lasting on me. I had a sticky feel when I press my lips together. Plus the packaging is not nearly as luxurious feeling as say the Dior or YSL or CT. just my opinion. Thanks for your ranking.

Okay I have the WA lipstick in that LFG - admittedly I have not used it as much as I should but there was something about it when I first tried it that I couldn't put my finger on it. Now I need to pull it out to see if it's the grittiness that I am getting. I didn't get any new lippies from Chanel, and I skipped the Charlotte Tilbury - glad I skipped the Tom Ford also from your review!!

I bought Lacker and it totally emphasizes lip lines and is patchy, drying😢 So sad really considering these lipsticks are 68 dollars in Canada!😬 Maybe it's the light shade, but wowzers what a letdown. The Westman ones were AWFUL, I was shocked. Really didn't expect to hate it as much as I did, I tend to love almost everything they put out. The Merit ones on the other hand were super surprising, especially since they were the least expensive of the bunch. Super comfortable to wear though I wish their bases weren't all so deep.

I looove the Merit matte lipsticks so so pretty but buyer be ware they market them with sunflower oil which is very inflammatory. Vitamin E is also emerging as an inflammatory oil so if you have inflammation be careful ❤️

Most lipsticks these days have some form of vitamin E. It's naturally occurring in the skin so I would not be concerned about applying it in such a small amount

I tried the Chanel yesterday and was really disappointed. I tried 2:00 and it feels dry and yes it doesn't wear well. The packaging didn't feel as luxe as I thought as well. Love the design though

Wow! The WA lipsticks I really liked. You’re not the only reviewer who hasn’t really liked them either. I didn’t experience ANY grit at all. I will agree over time they do dry but I think due to sueded finish. I also agree that I wish color would last a little longer. I’m going to take it that these others must be really good because I’ve been happy with them. Colors je veve & minx, which both were my speed as I don’t really do reds but occasionally a deeper wine and brown colors. I’m really curious about the Merit and Make up by Mario. I’ll need to check out color range. Particularly interested in Merit since is that sueded version to compare with WA. The price point is so much better so I do really like that. The first 3 brands, you want to say where are we going here, especially TF?

I’m looking forward to checking out the merit mattes. I’ll have to see if local Sephora has them so I can see the colors.

I think I’m the only one that doesn’t really look at formulas of lipsticks, I think they are all great, except long wear lipsticks can be drying, I base my decision on colour. But I’m definitely going to check out the colours for Merit and Makeup by Mario
