Great video! You did miss the opportunity to bring up Siphonophore's though- millions of single-celled organisms forming one large creature. Technically one off the coast of Australia is classified as the world's longest creature, measuring about 120 meters in length. We have some pretty crazy ones that have been filmed in the gulf of Mexico as well- they are usually found on the deeper side. If you go down this rabbit-hole, you should look into the "Black Carpet" story as well- a massive one multiple people have reported moving along the ocean floor. No concrete evidence to support that one's existence yet, but an interesting story nonetheless.

I am a marine biologist and I'll break this down for you all. - Japanese spider crabs have weak claws that are nowhere near capable of holding on to or crushing a person, and they live way too deep for even a scuba diver to encounter one. - Ocean Sunfish are incredibly slow moving and are often credited as one of the frendliest fish in the ocean. - The oarfish is physically not capable of eating something larger than a childs foot, even then they dont possess the bite strength to take off a foot, they only feed on jellyfish. And they are also a deep sea fish that you almost never see near the surface unless it's dying. - Giant pacific octopuses are venomous and can give a pretty nasty bite, but they are incredibly shy, and the venom itself is not fatal. - The colossal squid and giant squid live incredibly deep, but they would attempt to prey on you if you were somehow down that far. - Basking sharks cannot swallow anything larger than a basketball, but their skin is.like sandpaper and will hurt if rubbed against. - Whale sharks are the same as basking sharks in terms of how dangerous they are. - Sperm whales will not go out of their way to attack you or your boat, but they can emmit sonar waves that are capable of giving you an instant brain bleed, but this is extremely rare. - Blue whales are completely harmless, and they aren't capable of swallowing anything larger than a beach ball. - Lions mane jellyfish is the only thing here potentially dangerous. They have a mild sting, but their has been cases of people getting tangled in their tentacles.

Although not a leviathan class sea creature, the frill shark definitely gives off that feeling of being in subnautica with its alien like appearance due to it being a prehistoric fish. A list of animals that I think they could fit in here aswell: 1) Magnapinnidae (the giant deep squid that can grow to like 12-14 meters and a few months ago scientists descovered that can move pretty fast) 2) Vampire Squid (not that large, about 30 cm (but females are usually larger than males)). They have a cloak that when they feel in danger, open up and look even larger than they are and they hace spikes on the end of them. 3) The saccopharynx fish (I would actually sht myself if I see this fish expanding his jaw to like 6 times his body). They are known as pelican fish but they are common to be misclassified as eel cause’ of the appearence.

It's funny right? I unironically have Thalassophobia, as I'm a pretty poor swimmer with even poorer stamina and the idea of deep open water with no land in sight actually terrifies me (I'm a 25 year old man and like, playing Monster Hunter 3 and seeing some of the deeper areas of the underwater hunts like the dropoff area of Deserted Island makes me actually want to cry-). I can handle Subnautica because I usually have SOME sort of indicator of where I am and know the map well enough to be comfortable, but seeing how huge some of the marine life on our planet can be, and some of the more horrific deep sea predators, I'm actually getting light headed in fear typing this... TwT Why did I feed my own fear watching this? Oh yeah because it's Bacon and he makes banger stuff!

Oh I totally get it - just something about deep open water gets to me :)

Super cool video! However, my nitpick is the placement of oarfish, theyre rarely seen and considered extremely shy and only eat very small animals. I also think theyre absolutely adorable :3

Ok that’s fair :) I was a bit biased because of the reaper thing.

Fun fact: baleen whales physically cannot eat a person, as their throat, meant for plankton and small fish, is about the size of a grapefruit. A baleen whale *can* accidentally put you in its mouth, and there is a non-zero risk of drowning if that happens, but it can't swallow you to properly speak of. By contrast, the chances of being swallowed whole by a sperm whale are extremely low, but never zero. (For more context - a sperm whale is pretty much the only thing that is physically *capable* of swallowing a human whole, but A) it's fairly rare for humans and sperm whales to intersect, and B) they are far more intelligent than, say, sharks, and would probably not confuse a human for any of their primary prey items. If you did something to aggravate a sperm whale and it wanted you dead, it would probably sooner slam you with its head or tail than try to swallow you. Only in a situation of extreme starvation could I *maybe* imagine a sperm whale trying to eat a person)

Definitely not putting getting swallowed by a sperm whale on my bucket list :D

Fun fact: there is an extinct sperm whale called Livyatan Melvillei (basically Leviathan) and it's the only other carnivore big enough to rival Megalodon's size

You should look into siphonophores. Easily the most terrifying living things on this earth. There’s footage of one found off the coast of Japan, and it puts any other deep sea creature to shame. It’s really only describable as Lovecraftian.
Someday in the future, we may look at the first water planet with life in a distant system. Who knows, maybe a subnautica dev is from there, sharing his experience? Maybe the peeper leviathan is real...

@@TheLastBacon, they're not terrifying at all tho unlike the rest. They're beautiful and fascinating like you said. :) Great video btw.

Even though siphonophores are made of thousands of animals, i think they should be mentioned because they do create some terrifying shapes

And there's this one squid species that I forget the name of but it has really long tentacles and lives in very deep parts of the ocean. I believe it's called "Bigfin Squid". Would definitely be scarier than a majority of this list.

Not gonna lie, I love ALL of them. They're all just such cool critters! Particular favourites: mola mola (they're just so goofy-looking!), blue whales (honestly, I love pretty much all cetaceans, although my all-time favourites are humpback whales and orcas), and oh my god WHALE SHARKS one of my favourite animals in EXISTENCE. It's literally one of my life's dreams to swim with these beautiful gentle giants! I have a foot-long plushie of one :D For other really cool large marine life forms, check out giant pyrosomes! They're actually colonial creatures, so the actual creatures themselves are itty bitty, but they can form colonies that reach nearly twenty metres!
