Interesting ranking - Signals is also my number 1 - nice to see Test For Echo ranked quite high - for me the biggest difference would be Counterparts and Clockwork Angels which are both near the bottom on my ranking 😝 Grace Under Pressure and Snakes and Arrows would be quite a bit higher too

At least you got number one right with Signals. And I more or less agree with the rest of your rankings, with notable exceptions: 2112 should be "superb," Test For Echo should be "it's still Rush," Clockwork Angels should be "good," and Snakes And Arrows should be "superb."

Man, we are really close to having the same list! I even have Clockwork Angels as #10. I think I would have scored that album higher if Geddy's voice had been what it was in the 80s and 90s and if they had removed a couple of tracks. Very ambitious album.

Well done on a hard task. I’d say generally the stretch from 2112 through Signals is the Golden Era. The rest should be ranked after, and that probably has even more variety, particularly if one leans towards their poppier or rockier stuff. What this video has done is make me realize how much Signals means to me (a lot because it was my first tour to see). Good choice though Hemispheres is my No.1. Signals is maybe 3 or 4.

2112 is a great song but the B side of the record is nothing special, well for Rush anyway but the five albums from A Farewell To Kings to Signals is their best period imo.

I'm pleased to see someone rank Counterparts so high, partly because this is when I first got to see them live and have a real attachment to this album. I would probably rank Test For Echo even higher, though I know I'm in the minority with that opinion. I like these various ranking videos because nobody's list is the same. With a band like Rush, opinions vary greatly. Great list.

I think that's a sign of a great band that album rankings can differ so much. Rush were able to experiment and not stay stagnant, but still retain what made Rush great with every record.

I've never gotten mad, or was against someone's ranking for Rush. There's no answer, for me the albums could be in any order, and could change by the day, I don't care. Whatever album I choose to listen to is just because that's what i'm in the mood for that day. Each album is equally as good IMO and there's not a single song I don't like.

Great list! Very brave of you to put 2112 that low on the list. Most Rush fans won´t be happy with that, but honestly, it isn´t in my personal top ten list either. Well, talking about my personal Top Ten... 10. Clockwork Angels - 2012 (unfortunately the sound was very overdriven in the mastering. Still, really good songs). 9. Snakes and Arrows - 2007 (Sound see No. 10. A bit better than 10, especially the instrumentals are really great). 8. Grace under Pressure - 1984 (Sound quite dull, first album without Terry Brown on the controls. Songs more straightforward than you were used to from them at the time, but very rousing. Some Parts strongly influenced by New Wave). 7. Signals - 1982 (Last Terry Brown album. More keys and synties, which doesn't water down the songs at all, but just makes them even more melancholic and atmospheric). 6. Permanent Waves - 1980 (Great transition from the 70s to the 80s. Sounds to me like a prelude to Moving Pictures, both in terms of the sound and the songs). 5. Hemispheres - 1978 (actually something like the twin brother of A Farewell to Kings, but with a better, more powerful sound). 4. A Farewell to Kings - 1977 (the production alone made it easy to understand the change from hard rock to prog. Maybe it could have been a little less transparent and a little more powerful in the sound. But maybe that's why Hemispheres had such an ingenious sound , because Kings was taken as a basis and sound-enhanced. The cover is my favorite cover of this band). 3. Power Windows - 1985 (production too bombastic, but brilliant songs). 2. Presto - 1989 (beautiful, ridiculously underrated album. When the album came out all the critics really loved it, but nowadays it seems almost hated, at least by the fans, which is really sad. Every time I listen to it, it puts a smile on my face and feel deep peace). 1. Moving Pictures - 1981 (best album ever).

Farewell to kings only has 2 good songs.... It's an awful record. Madrigal and Cinderella man are unpalatable come on ! Test for echoes also has 2 songs and the rest is absolute garbage so it would rank as the worst to me. Geddy's vocals and choice of melodies are simply atrocious on Clockwork angel and it ruins the entire experience for me but to be fair the instruments sound really good so at the bottom for me as well. But the biggest mindbender in this ranking is putting Cockwork angels before Permanent waves and Moving pictures...How does that make any sense ? So if you had to go on an island and you could only bring 2 Rush records to listen to for the rest of your life, you would bring Signals and Clockwork angels.... FUCK ME !!!!

Don’t agree with the tone of the post, but agree that Clockwork Angels is ruined by Geddy’s lack of attention to good vocal melody lines. Their classic ones have great melodies, which was a HUGE part of their sound (Closer to the Heart to start). Clockwork Angels could be as great as the classics, because the sound, playing and arrangements are GREAT (Moving Pictures level)
