Again, apologies of our crap Japanese pronounciation. It's just a language I struggle with. It's not like with French where I deliberatley pronounce words wrong just to rile my friend haha. Still, hope you enjoy this one. We may do other High Speed trains once we get some free time!

7:03 The reason for this is because types running West of Tokyo were given odd numbers hence 100, 300, 500 etc for JR Central/West while types running East of Tokyo were given even numbers, 200, 400 etc until JR East butchered it with the EX naming scheme. Btw the Mini Shinkansen routes are litteraly just adding another rail to the convential lines lol. Personally my favourite picks have to be the 100, 500, E4 Max (Railway A380) and E5/H5
@MaverickHunterDaniel25 күн бұрын
Ohhhhh, that makes alot of sense now that you think about it. Also the Mini Shinkansen by your description reminds me of the multi gauge tracks that are seen on the Essen Stadtbahn.

3 + 2 seating on shinkasen is not that big of a problem as loading gauge on the shinkasen is big. I've sat on the E5 3+2 ones before and it's fine for a big person like me. Another way to prove this is that all the mini shinkasens only have 2 + 2 for standard as they have a narrower loading gauge.

Stepping onto the 0 series at the NRM showed me this. They're huge inside!
@MaverickHunterDaniel25 күн бұрын
Certainly! At 3.3m wide, the 0 series as an example is wider than the ICE 1, an already wide lad in Europe. Plus Japan tends to view public transport as more utilitarian. Prior to the Shinkansen's dominance, Japan Air would use 747SRs on domestic routes to the highest capacity. They even had a stretched upper deck and could carry up to 550 in one class.

The train at 28:41 is actually the 700S not the n700 (you can tell as there are extra blue triangles near the nose). Fun fact: A modified n700 and n700A can be differentiated as they have slightly different logos.

Alright so here's my take, since I found myself disagreeing a LOT haha. 0 series - yep, solid B. Nothing overly flashy but I can forgive it for being the first if its kind. 100 series - Quite an improvement on the 0 series. I do like the slit headlights and sharper stripes. A tier. 200 series - just an uglier 0 series. C tier. 300 series - Very 90s esque, but not the biggest fan. B tier for the iconic look alone. 400 series - Ok, I really don't think these look that bad honestly. B tier. 500 series - exactly the same thoughts as you two here, they do look like a CGI rendering. S tier. 700 series - Quite plain. Not sure what to make of the duck bill nose. B tier. N700 series - Again quite plain but looks marginally better than the 700 series. A tier. N700S/Kyushu version - I don't like the new headlights, they look silly. Also surprisingly not a fan of the Kyushu Shinkasen livery. B tier. 800 series - Looks like it got run into a wall, I don't like the flat nose and squished headlights. D tier. E1 - Just a very ugly and boring train. C tier. E2 - Not much to say here. It's just fine. Perhaps worth noting that they used to have GTO inverters which sounded amazing. B tier. E3 - I don't like the oddly oversized cab ends. It does look reasonably nice in some liveries tbf. C tier. E4 - I didn't think it was possible to make a train this ugly. D tier. E5 - Gaudy but not in a good way. Not a fan of the emerald green, or extremely long nose. C tier - perhaps even D. E6 - A petite E5 basically. I think its cute, and the crimson paint is a nice change. A tier. E7 - Simultaneously feels like its trying to stand out but also blend in and feel normal. I quite like these. S tier. E8 - These didn't deserve a D tier c'mon. I like the paint job and the headlight positioning isn't the worst, though it could be worse head on. A tier.

As somebody that likes Asian trains and British trains. I am sad that I am not in this conversation. Wish I could’ve. Thanks for putting the 500 in S Tier. It’s my favorite train in the entire planet and it’s a train that’s got me into liking trains in the first place.
@TheJononator17 күн бұрын
I'd move the 0 Series to A, all the 700s to D (GWVillager hit the nail on the head calling them bland), flip the E/H5 and the E6 around (surprised that their 2014 F1 noses weren't mentioned) and put the E8 in D. One thing to note is that the E6, E7 and E8 were designed by Ken Okuyama, the designer of the Ferrari Enzo.
