I wanted to add my notes on Wacky Workbench past by saying that it sounds like controlled chaos. Which is something expectable from a construction site with floating platforms, electric defense systems or whatever those things are, and a floor sending you straight to the ceiling. It is chaotic, but that chaos is somewhat controlled.

My personal ranking: #7: Tidal Tempest: the 'simplicity' you mentioned actually kinda brings down the song for me. It is so weak when compared to the rest of the past tracks. The song itself is quite good though. It sound dark when compared to the present. I also like the ending as well. I like all 7 past tracks so even if this is dead last I still like it! #6: Metallic Madness: What on God's green earth am I listening to?! The whole song is just plain creepy and menacing. 14:17 is the best example of this. Also the composer was just waffling with that piano. 💀 #5: Collision Chaos: eeeerrr okay.... I don't know what impression it's supposed to leave on me, which is why I kinda have it low. Seriously I can't even analyse this song. 💀💀 #4: Quartz Quadrant: A former favourite of mine and now my love for this song has skeddadled. I like the piano solo, the screeching and the guitar panning back and forth. #3: Stardust Speedway: another ex-favourite of mine. The hue is present at the beginning the piano, the synth strings are all cool. But what sells me on this song more that anything is actually the background. I think that's because Sonic was your typical ancient Greek guy during his youth or something. #2: Palmtree Panic: I mentioned sometime ago that the present and good future endings on this song have brought a tear to my eye. Well that applies to the Past variant except it's throughout the entire song as opposed to just the ending. Very melancholic. #1: Wacky Workbench: There's this amazing Sonic 1 hack out there called 'Sonic Journeys' that I played. These hacks (usually) tend to change all of the state's music. This is how I was introduced to this gem of a song. (Well quite frankly all of them are gems) the song itself is just a harmonica, piano (i'm not sure what else) taking up the spotlight. Definitely a 10/10. I find myself coming back to this video for that matter just to listen to these songs 😀😀 once again, great video!

Great video! I really liked how you even added in the unused Salad Plain! I’m also going to leave a past list here since everyone else is doing it! (Sorry it’s a bit of a long read…) 7. Quartz Quadrant I love this song! It’s great on all fronts especially the piano section towards the end of the song! I just think personally it doesn’t do as much for me as the other past songs. 6. Collision Chaos I enjoy collision chaos’s simplicity in the first half but I really love the second halves chaotic feel with it being a primitive version of the good future. 5. Stardust Speedway I really like how it’s motifs are used! I also think the bounciness of the song enhances it. 4. Palmtree Panic This one’s just so chill and I think that goes well with the cloudy morning sort of atmosphere the stage gives me. It just sounds so peaceful and happy! 3. Wacky Workbench Gives me Super Mario World vibes specifically (Not that it matters but Idk why). I love how different and unique this song is like you stated. Tonally, it works because in every other version of Wacky Workbench you never even get a glimpse of the outside world as it’s all just factory. When you go to the past, it does feel like an entirely different world and the music compliments it so much. I could go on and on but I’ll spare you the college essay. 2. Metallic Madness This song is just epic in every way! With orchestral hits all over the place, I like the shot of adrenaline this song can give you! The middle of the song all sounds so flashy! The composer was really cooking with this one! My favorite part of the song is the last part before it loops, it sounds so mysterious and makes me feel like there’s still a looming threat to be conquered. 1. Tidal Tempest Now hear me out. Tidal Tempest is THE best Sonic CD past song. Every part of this song is beautiful to me! The beginning sounds like the bad future while the background does it’s own thing. I like the up and down of the next section which gives tension (likely enhance the water portion of the area). In the back it sounds like a more primitive/simplified version of the presents melody which I really like. The next part is by THE BEST. I wish this part g ot more attention in the other versions besides being reduced to a quick loop (it sounds perfect though). The main melody is just so good in a way I can’t really describe with words. The arpeggio going on in the back is phenomenal! I get so absorbed in the song with just those instruments and to top it all off is the bass (I hope I’m right about that). Which just completes this section in such a neat little package as it only lasts so long before the song gets a break down and smoothly transitions to the start of the song! But all of this crazy talk is just my opinion though and I can see the why you might enjoy some songs over others! Sorry if that last one dragged on a bit if anyone is still reading this… just know it could’ve been longer. Sonic CD sparked my love for music in general and it’s songs like Tidal Tempest Past that have made a sort of connection with me. Thank you for letting me waste your time! Also can someone please tell me what was that song at the very beginning/start of the video it sounds so cool!

Now I finally have a bit of time to write my thesis on what I consider my own personal ranking of Sonic CD's past tracks! 7) Collision Chaos - it's a fine song and sure, understandably all the funkiness of the future eras has been stripped away. That second half of the song though: yikes. 6) Quartz Quadrant - don't get me wrong, the Latin American vibe this song gives is very fitting. Maybe I just have an issue of the song being in the key of B-flat minor which I associate with mournful sadness. 5) Metallic Madness - impressive how this song retains some of the high energy of the present era and sinister vibe of the bad future. No complaints here. 4) Tidal Tempest - a chill song for a huge underwater cavern that man nor machine has touched. Makes for a chilled atmosphere. 3) Wacky Workbench - funky song and catchy! I get major West coast USA vibes from it in some way: and just fits the workbench in it's early phases of construction. 2) Stardust Speedway - the jazziest soundtrack in this game and once again, really catchy! Could you imagine playing the saxophone whilst standing atop one of the temples? I would pay to see it! 1) Palmtree Panic - something about this screams "tropical paradise free from the distractions of modern technology!" I think we could all do with that these days. So yeah! None of these songs I dislike but great list you got here and your points well made!

my opinion: (you know what im gonna say) 7. Quartz Quadrant - E teir (5.99) while this isn't a bad track its just mid, this is also a bit of a hot take but this song is just boring, its obviously not bad but it could do so much better than this 6. Stardust Speedway - D teir (6.30) this might be interesting, this song is kind of a not fitting song especially with those wierd sounds (hue) in the biggining but still its not that bad! Its not boring unlike the prievious entry but still good 5. Collision Chaos - C teir (7.99) this one used to be an early favorite of Collision Chaos, it used to be one of my favorite Collision Chaos song AND one of my favorite past theme, now its not so much anymore, its not that bad but still 4. Palmtree Panic - B teir (8.69) this track is the calmest track in the game imo, while its not bad ofc its still kind of a boring one its really not interesting too, but what puts this track high up is the ending which is awesome 3. Metallic Madness - A teir (9.10) my god good golly they managed to make an intiminating past song? while this isn't the best past theme, its definitly up there I also like to call this track industrial madness 2. Tidal Tempest - A teir (9.70) This is one of my favorite tracks in the game for a good reason, it really suits the level and is an awesome track in itself, its just like Tidal Tempest Good Future JP but way better it suits an underwater level and a past 1. Wacky Workbench - S teir (9.50) my god they managed to make a good wacky workbench song? Or at the very least an apreaciated wacky workbench song, I actually really love this song because its SUPER upbeat and one of my favorite Wacky Workbench songs! Also F minor? Best Key

My ranking: #7: Tidal Tempest (I never really liked this track. It just doesn't sound pleasant to my ears) #6: Collision Chaos (It's just ok i guess) #5: Quartz Quadrant (It's low on the list but I actually really like it) #4 Palmtree Panic (Now this is something I can listen to and not feel any worries about life) #3: Metallic Madness (I seriously like this one. It gives off the rush feeling of Robotnik trying to build his base as fast as possible. Also, I really like this part 14:17 and I don't know why.) #2: Wacky Workbench (It's the best take on the JP leitmotif. It shows the construction site of the Workbench itself. I also cant help but notice how the mountains in the back are strikingly similar to the mountains in the back of Quartz Quadrant present, meaning that they are in the same area or on the other side of each other) #1: Stardust Speedway (It fits the natural look of the past and the overall stage so well in my opinion. It also just sounds nice to listen to. If you compare this and the Mania one, they both sound nice and fit the stage)

List 7. Tidal Tempest (6/10) : I don't really find this song enjoyable, nor do I listen to it much cuz its so repetetive?? I guess it does give us a grasp of what TT originally was. 6. Collision Chaos (7/10) : I don't hate this song, I actually find it pretty funky, and prehistoric as well. It's a great fit for Collision Chaos. Also it really explains why CCBFJP doesn't really sound THAT evil. Bc Eggman kept Collision Chaos the same way it was, as u can see theres nothing broken in this place, unlike other levels. The whole craziness of Collision Chaos only absents in the Good Future Version. 5. Stardust Speedway (8/10) : I honestly think this one is good, it's Simplicitys done right, unlike the TT one. It's both groovy, relaxing and beautiful as well. 4. Metallic Madness (8,5/10) : This one is WEIRD. It has the sinister sounding stuff from the Present and Bad Future, except its less sinister.. It really gives us a grasp of what Metallic Madness is. It was always supposed to be a dangerous place with spikes and saws, BEFORE Eggman even arrived on Little Planet. Maybe this place was fated to be taken by Eggman just like Stardust Speedway and Collision Chaos? Nah I think the JP doesn't go THAT deep like the US😭 they rlly just went for a super cool track, and I love that piano! 3. Quartz Quadrant (9/10) : I LOVE this one. It honestly fits the stage, atmosphere, outdoors, indoors, backgrounds and honestly sounds so green! It's really prehistoric. And I love the Piano Solo, it's mainly the reason this song is placed so high. The basslines are really cool too! I love that flute sounding thing, really fits QQZ. 2. Wacky Workbench (10/10) : I think, this one is the only WWJP song that I actually remembered about. Bc it's so good! I think it was pretty hard to choose between this one and another one to be the number one spot. However, this one still slaps. I remember playing WW MANY TIMES just to like get the good future of it, the Present one is repetitive it annoys me, the BF one is too loud and the Good Future I feel like it's pretty boring. But this one just hits different. That's all I'll say I won't go deep into stuff cuz im rlly braindead mid writing ts. 1. Palmtree Panic (10/10) : Should this be obvious? Yeah. This one fits everything, and does everything right. I just honestly love how calming it is, compared to other JP variations. Also hot take but this one is the best Palmtree Panic for me, not JP Palmtree Panic, but Palmtree Panic as a whole.

My ranking #7 collision chaos 7.9/10 I love all the past music so don’t think I hate this song, I really think it fits the past very very well, it’s incredible. It’s just that some of the noises can be weird, that’s all. But in summary, great song #6 quartz quadrant 8.3/10 The odd voice lead can be interesting in ways… but the song as for fitting the past is 10/10. It’s just that like collision chaos some of the noises can be odd. #5 metallic madness 8.5/10 Ok this song gives itself points for one reason, the fact that it’s pretty intense because it’s the FINAL ZONE, just because youe in the past doesn’t mean your in tribal paradise, no robotnik is still a threat and you need to destroy his creations. #4 Stardust Speedway 8.7/10 HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE. The classic. I just really like it and it really fits the ancient stardust speedway. With everything green, and it’s really nice, I wish I could add more but that’s all I got, it’s just very good #3 wacky workbench 9.2/10 For once the wacky work bench jp music isn’t killing me (exept GF) I really like it’s melody but in the past, and it really fits the stage and atmosphere. No words here, it’s just amazing. #2 and #1. Tidal tempest and Palmtree Panic 9.4/10 Ik, disappointing how the top ones are tied it’s just that I can’t decide, Palmtree panic really fits the stage and feels really old, and tidal tempest feels like a dry version of the present, BECAUSE IT IS and the music is tense because you want to avoid getting drowned and crushed

In my opinion: 8: Wacky Workbench It's cool kinda but I really just doesn't fit th vibe for the level and the level design 7: Quartz Quadrant It's cool and all but I only like that one part of the song that goes, "na na Nana na na Nana na na" 6: Tidal Tempest This is actually a good song but there is kind of a problem, sometimes at that one part it copys the flow of the present version 5: Collision Chaos This song is awesome an I don't have a single problem with it 4: Stardust Speedway I also really like the song! The jazz and everything makes me feel like I'm in a Jazz band! 3: Metallic Madness This song is also really amazing and deserves to be in the Top 3 in my books 2: Palmtree Panic This was the first song I ever listened to in the OST and it was amazing! AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST.... 1: Palmtree Panic Prototype Amazing song and I wish this wasn't unused in the final version. This would've been a lot better! And that concludes my thoughts on the Past music in Sonic CD's JP OST!

Actually I like wacky workbench and I will always defend it as it’s an overall good zone if you know what you are doing This zone isn’t like most sonic zones the aim is to actually stay low as possible near the bouncy floor since you get the best routes there
