I freely admit, i have all DLCs and half of those purchases were only meant as a little bit of support for Keen as thanks for the many years with this incredible game. There is stuff in there i never used. But i absolutely love the Decorations packs. They really bring a build to life without cluttering the modlist

Same Here on all of the DLC's My main reason was to support Keen as they are a smaller game company that interacts with the gamers and tend to implement a lot of things into the game that are out there in some of the more popular mods. Not to mention they really give you a LOT of settings to play the game the way you want to.

I always tell new players to spend some time playing the game first, then they'll know what mods/DLC's they want to further enhance their games. I've got a little over 6k hours in the game so i'm at that point where i gat exceptionally picking about interiors and can't imagine playing without the decorative packs but for a new player just trying to learn the basics those DLC's are basically useless. It's all a matter of learning to play the game first to know where you want it to go further.

@@AlbertEinstein-so8sq That's a tough one to answer honestly. I have a love/hate relationship with the game. It's one of those games that if you're not into making your own entertainment is a complete pile of crap because it does little more then drop everything in your lap and walk off expecting you to do all the work. If you're like me and enjoy doing whatever you want in a game at your own pace instead of having a plot to follow it's a fun sandbox to play in. I love tinkering in games and this game is a tinkering paradise, i also hate sometimes there nothing to do with the fun things you make.

@@AlbertEinstein-so8sq depends on what you expect from the game. It's a sandbox, and aside from the ready-made scenarios, there's no plot and very little guidance. If you're the type of person who likes to spend time learning to work with a complex system, then yes, this it probably is worth buying. HOWEVER.. The XBox version doesn't have mods or scripts, and is severely limited in other ways as well. I would not recommend the console version at all. You would miss out on many mods which make the game a lot more deep and enjoyable. Some of the mods *should* be base game features, such as Build Vision and Modular Encounters Systems.

i suppose it's because SE DLC are still quite cheap, buying all DLC is about 50 bucks. and the money goes to a rather small studio. Stellaris, on the other hand, is developed by a big company and each DLC costs 20 bucks, so all SE DLC is about as expensive as 2.5 Stellaris DLC. buying all of the DLC for stellaris is easily gonna cost you a few hundred bucks. and most of the DLC actually contains specific features, mechanics or playstyle options. wanna be a hivemind? DLC. wanna be the crisis? DLC. want better Federations? DLC. so it kinda feels like you need to buy DLC to fully enjoy the game. SE on the other hand tends to lock rather few features behind a paywall, with the DLC mostly just containing blocks, skins and emotes you could also get in similar enough versions on the workshop or, hypothetically, make yourself. in SE, not having DLC feels way less like missing out on some cool or even essential features, so the reasons for getting the DLC are rather wanting specific blocks, more aesthetic options, and supporting the devs, as well as expanding the game in a way that doesn't rely on workshop mods being updated. meanwhile, reasons for getting Stellaris DLC are more wanting to have more playstyle options, expanding the game and wanting to enjoy the new updates to the fullest. so yeah, in SE, not having DLC doesn't really feel like missing out and having it feels more like supporting the devs for a few bucks. meanwhile, in Stellaris, not having DLC feels like part of the game is missing and having it is expensive.

@@iikraze9864 There's a difference between "piracy" and "piracy issues", at the end of the day piracy happens for pretty much any game ever made, it only becomes an issue once a certain percentage of the player base has not paid. There will always be a 5-10% of a player base that does not pay and that's mostly fine (its "calculated in" the projected profits) but if it's like 25% or more then it starts to hurt the game/dev/publisher.

I only own the base game and I don't feel like I'm missing much by not having the DLC. The DLC is basically all cosmetic or has slightly inferior versions already available. I can't think of anything talked about here that would change the way I play the game. That makes it much better than something like Stellaris that has extremely impactful DLC which is way more expensive.

dont forget about the heavy industry pack: the large container has different connection points from the regular one, plus i really love the longer design, makes it feel more bulky.

I have all of them, but I got them incrementally as they came out. $5 here and there. Absolutely understand when new people baulk at the total cost. Agree that decorative packs 1,2&3 plus heavy industry is the best of the blocks. Makes a massive difference to interior design and making builds come alive. Warfare 1 I actually use the passages a lot because they are great for routing corridors through tight spaces. As I build larger warships, having the option for a one block corridor along a conveyor is great for repair access and structural integrity. Frostbite is very underrated in my opinion. I recommend it for the scenario alone. I have a whole single player playthrough based on it. I did the main mission then set up my own base and did a salvage and body recovery mission. One thing to keep in mind is while there are a ton of decorative and functional mods, not every mod is on every server. And not every mod lasts very long depending on how often it is updated. So picking up the decorative packs and the heavy industry pack allows you to do nice detailing that is server and mod agnostic.

Personally, automatons is very much worth it in my opinion, I also find using the sloped wall a lot, great for interiors. and Dec pack 3 is by far my favorite with dec 1 in second place. Those are just my opinion though, amazing video that many deffinitally need!

9:32 I beg to differ sir - the industrial cargo looks WAY better than the normal ones for one main reason: They stack and line up very well. There's less gaps between them and they were meant connect together, and it looks so much better than the rounded edges the original one kinda has

Thank you a lot, I was looking for a video like this for at least two weeks now, got into Space Engineers pretty recently and after having some good time in the vanilla I was thinking of getting some DLC's since I found it pretty hard to make a good looking base/ship while all the blocks I'd like to use are locked behind DLC's. Unless you’re strapped for cash, they’re all worth it because they keep KSH in business. I have over 3000h in SE, so I’ve already gotten way more worth out of it than the $20 I paid for the early access, so buying the DLC is the least I can do to give back to this amazing game.

The only reason why I got the Economy DLC when it first came out is that I thought the ATM in it was the only way to deposit money digitally. Until later on when I was browsing the store block that I found out that it had a ATM function on it.

I think some of the biggest factors are personal build styles and block design. For example, if someone uses an industrial design, they will definitely want the industrial DLC, but for someone who builds dusty, worn down designs, they will definitely want the wasteland DLC. Also, ignoring building styles, the shape of a block can also influence the benefits of a DLC. For example, the industrial refinery and assembler being walkable makes them more space efficient if used right, as instead of having a passage next to it you can have the block itself be the passage. That would also includ the programmable block from the ai DLC, though I never use programmable blocks so it's hit or miss for me.

Industrial designs? I don’t care, gimme them industrial refineries and assemblers. They are set up so much better for ground bases. As somebody who loves ground based play, those things are so much easier to fit into a base and not have all the mod ports and outputs placed oddly around the block.

I have a question for you (or your awesome followers), What's the difference between Stock and Deluxe SE? I purchased the Stock recently and now I see that the upgrade is $7.99 US. That's one "DLC" (or optional purchase) you didn't go over). Thanks in advance. Also, I can't get my gatling gun to shoot at anything in particular, it just shoots wildly into the air, even though I'm targeted on the enemy rover and I THOUGHT I told it to target weapons. HELP... I have no idea how to do it (except to CONTROL) and then it's hard to drive and shoot at the same time).

The DLCs I want to see? Gothic, for the churches in space. Arch windows, columns, stone blocks, archways, coffin bed, coffin cry pods, coffin decorations/crates and skull decorations and statues to put everywhere on our warhammer builds. Maybe even put in some K/Clang references The other one i would call 'Utopian', for that Star Trek vibe, one and two wide passageways, T junctions, cross sections, side entrances for doors, command consoles, reactors, and ion and hydrogen engines to fit the style.

if you going for a more contemporary realism look, The "disco Armor Skin" is really good for making things look like they have foil thermal insulation blankets. just make it a reddish/copper or gold color like you see on satellites or the LEM, and use it as accents around things that would be wrapped in insolation.

I myself have all of them I like the option to have more options on top of that the cost has been very reasonable and it helps with supporting the game development for that reason alone makes it worth buying them there are few games out that have the player in mind and it has one of the best communities out of all the games that I’ve played

Best value for money is probably Deco Pack 1. Not many blocks, but very useful ones. I just wish that visual variants like the Industrial Refinery didn't count as separate from the vanilla versions when loading Workshop creations...

As a console player, I love kolts command consoles, assult weapons pack, niteowl (all of his) and EDP Doors. I also own all dlc and use parts from each quit a lot in addition to mods

Almost all of them are worth it to some extent. I've gotten around ten years of use out of the game so buying them as they come out has been worth it. Pace yourself and buy them up if you find yourself coming back to the game again and again. Alternate block models are more important than armor textures. Heavy Industries and Warefare 2 are probably the first 2. The second 2 should be whichever ones have the bathroom and shower. It's kind of gross when your home base or long haul ships don't allow you to stay clean.

Dude, I'm sorry, but I have to give this video a dislike. Reasons are, 1. Your personal build style under utilizes some of the skins in the packs you don't recommend, as well as the video glossing over some of the blocks that are extremely useful. 2. This video is confusing as it's titled "Ranking" and yet, the actual content is just you saying, " this game has a lot of dlc, here's what I recommend buying", so a rework of the title would help immensely (example, "My recommended DLC To purchase") 3. You recommend Mods, a cool add on that is risky depending on what you have to play the game on, as not all mods are stable, unlike dlc, and some do not work at all, again unlike dlc. In my opinion this video is one of your worst written ones and I hope you take this as it's meant, criticism directed at a lack of clear focus and biased opinion concerning usability of blocks. For me personally, any dlc that adds options for new techniques is valuable, regardless of amount of blocks added, because my (for lack of better term) Lego box just got bigger. And to be fair I primarily play on Xbox, even though have it on PC as well, and I am a recreation specialist that needs everything Keen has released concerning the constructive side of the game, as for the anniversary dlc, it is a limited time second chance to grab some of the suits for players who missed it beforehand, a fact that you did not cover in this video, and information like this is critical for decision making concerning purchases. With all this said, looking forward to your next SE video as I do enjoy your channel

I own all dlc except for SE Deluxe with the gold akin and the new anniversary edition. I wont be buying either of those for just a few skins. As for mods, my mod list page would blow most people's minds. I havent counted them yet but my best guess is im subbed to 3-4 thousand mods. I use a great deal of them depending on the world, so Aaron your right about the mods.

I have all the DLCs not because I was interested in buying them all, but because Keen deserves my money. I have never been interested in a single game for so long. I have over 4300 playing hours in Space Engineers and any game studio that can make a game that entertains me for over 4300 hours deserves my money. The game isn't perfect but somehow it's flaws somehow feel like features. Klang's power comes from physics engine bugs, yet I still enjoy some Klang action from time to time. Nothing like disconnecting a connector and watching your ship or rover launch into the void, or spinning around and causing a rapid unscheduled disassembly of anything nearby. That frustrates some people, and it used to frustrate me too, but now I get a good laugh from it.

the industrial assembler is also statistically better than the vanilla assembler. This is becuase the vanilla assembler only has 6 upgrade ports (for speed/efficency modules) while the indusrial one has 8, 4 on the back, 2 on top and 2 on the bottom EDIT: apparently this isn't true, the 2 connectors on the sides of the assembler can double as upgrade ports

My recommendation is all of them, but not all at once, start with 1 or 2 of LSG's recommended ones and eventually work your way through by the full list. His build style does not make use of all of the blocks or skins, and you might find something you like that he doesn't, such as the glamor skin painted gold if your trying to make a lunar lander similar to Apollo 11, so try it a little here and there to find what you like

Giving money to Keen is a terrible move. They don't care about their players, ignore bug reports and play dumb when they're submitted. They blatantly rip content from the workshop, give them a facelift and sell them for a price that isn't worth the "content". There are P2W aspects to a lot of the DLC as well. The game is empty with next to nothing to do. When the majority of content is from mods, you have a bad game with worse developers.

I would love to see more stuff for bringing ship/base interiors to life. I also want them to address how when you place the decorative blocks, it takes up a full block, which means I think they need to do some work on the hitboxes for everything. I'd also like the ability to paint each block side individually.

I just like building stuff, and making stuff look pretty. Plus, when they put the blocks into the game but you can't use them, it annoys the hell out of me. I have to say though, it's pretty shitty that they don't release these alongside the game. Not a fan, even despite the fact that I bought them and pretty much signalled to the devs that I will buy into the idea. That said, I think I'm more willing to roll with it because it's an indie developer. I'd rather they just release this stuff for free with the updates that add them, but making games is costly, so I get why they probably did what they did. Try the game first, and if you're like me, and you get way into building with your Space Legos, buy them if you can afford them. See what items you'll want more in the moment, if you can't grab all of them right away, or things that you know you're going to be using heavily. Obviously, if the game isn't good enough for you, or not your thing, or whatever else, don't buy the DLC. You DON'T need the DLC to get your money's worth from Space Engineers itself however. Trust me, plenty enough there to work with. Please though, for the love of Klang, Keen, just release this stuff for free from now on. At least give me a reason why you have to charge extra for these additions, if not. It's bugging me a bit now.

Haven't used a pattern yet? Find an excuse. All of the DLC is cheap and enjoyable, and you'll discover ways to make your builds better by challenging yourself
