I'm doing a calamity playthrough now and I'm trying out death mode + mastermode solo. Usually I play with friends but I wanna see if I can beat it solo.

Sorry but people don't want to do the same grind over and over and over after their 7 million playthroughs. People play modded for the boss fights, not the grind that they've done a million times.

If it was just about bosses, why buy boss bags? That would be skipping the one part of the playthrough you enjoy, right? Personally, I think most bosses suck and exploration for better gear and buffs is the most interesting part of the experience. You also don't need Ankh Shield. It's perfectly reasonable to just not grind for it. Or you could try optimizing grinding for it, which can be interesting in itself. But Ankh Shield is a question of getting +2 defense and poison immunity against Plantera so you get extra Regen Potion regen. If you're doing a playthrough every other week, definitely don't waste your time and just skip the thing. The randomness associated with boss bags and similar in Terraria is intended to give the player a varied experience. Plantera could give you a Venus Magnum, or it could give you a Leaf Blower. And generally it's expected that you can just work with whatever drop you get, especially in a case like Duke Fishron where all of the drops are good. Grinding for one specific weapon is an arbitrary goal set on top of that, which is why in vanilla it's a "grind".

He isnt hard to beat, you can do it with your eyes closed, so why spend the time instead of buying his treasure bag? It's usually not the the ankh shield itself that is what you want, its the upgrade you can make with it that gives you the ability to dash through enemies without taking damage that is a necessity in calamity. The crafting trees in lategame calamity are so long and annoying just making the thing usually takes 20 minutes. I honestly dont want to fight a piss easy boss just to get the random drop from a bag which I need to craft a weapon but repeat 15 times with different bosses. Have you ever played calamity before? If not, you should, and you'll understand what I mean then :p
