In 1988 I started listening to Metallica. I had all the albums on cassettes. Then I bought some from Slayer and Megadeth because they were difficult to find in my country (Argentina). from Anthrax I only bought "Among the living" and the ep with Public Enemy. These albums were very important in my musical education and allowed me to meet other bands that influenced the Big 4 of Trash. 1-Ride the Lightning (1984) 2- ...And Justice for All (1988) 3-Reign in Blood (1986) 4-Kill 'Em All (1983) 5-Master of Puppets (1986) 6-Peace Sells... but Who's Buying? (1986) 7-South of Heaven (1988) 8-So Far, So Good... So What! (1988) 9-Hell Awaits (1985) 10-Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good! (1985) 11-Among the Living (1987) 12-Show No Mercy (1983) 13-Spreading the Disease (1985) 14-State of Euphoria (1988) 15-Fistful of Metal (1984)

@@woutwout8398 AC/DC was pretty Heavy Metal in the 1970s. The Vocals are really aggressive and harsh , but the music is very laid back and repetitive. The Let There Be Rock, Whole Lotta Rosie , Squealer, Sin City , Live Wire, and She's Got Balls were some of the Hardest songs for the time. The same fanbase that was into Judas Priest, Montrose, Black Sabbath, UFO, Sir Lord Baltimore, and Dust were the only people who liked AC/DC back then. But AC/DC failed to stand up next to the NWOBHM movement bands. AC/DC became a Pop band since Back in Black, although there were some Heavy Metal riffs on For Those About to Rock, and Flick of the Switch it's hardly enough to qualify them as a Metal band anymore.

Popoff and Pardo are at it again with another interesting decade album blender episode. Though not too familiar with many of the albums, always learn something from watching/listening to Martin and Pete discuss music. This was no exception. As for Martin's question about Bread in the discussion during the premiere, all that can be offered here is that a lot of the young ladies from this part of the U.S. loved the 'romance' of those albums. Just another mix in the surviving AM radio of the time. Thanks once again, gents. There ya go!

Pete talking about Master of Puppets brought back a memory. I think somewhere towards the end of the 80s I was hearing so much about Metallica that I was curious. I had not heard their music at all, I bought a cassette of Master of Puppets. My reaction was, WTF! It was outside what I could comprehend. I don’t know if I listened to the whole thing; there is a very good chance I only listened to (part of?) 1 track. That was enough for me. I wanted nothing to do with it. I don’t remember what I did with that tape. Maybe it ended up in the trash. After the Black Album, I heard more of the band, heard more Metal. I started opening up to Metal. At some point I bought Master of Puppets again. I liked it. How many years had to pass between rejecting Master Of Puppets & accepting it? 3-4 yrs? I don't know. I've only heard 3 Metallica albums, a few Anthrax albums, never heard any album by Slayer or Megadeth. I like some Metal, but I've never been a big fan of it.

How disappointing this Video started, when Martin mentions "Show No Mercy" first, means he finds all other 14 albums here were better than it... I listened to this at it came out, age 13. I loved it immediately! I heard "Kill Em All" before, but this I found far better, it sounds much more creepy and the amount of sheer classics on it is astonishing! (BTW I already was a huge Iron Maiden fan at that time). Pete saved my day then, picking it for his number two! For me it is perhaps one of the 3 greatest records of all time. Ok, Martin was 20 at that time, some years elder than me, and I remember the elder guys we met those times did not like thrash metal at all. They just didn't get it! They were grown up with sloppier sounding music... What I'm telling here is about the german heavy metal scene, as I come next from Stuttgart. Love and peace.

I was on holiday so I watched the latest episode where Pete and Martin mention the comments before watching this episode. People need to chill out ! Pete and Martin aren’t always going to pick your favourites, especially the contrary Martin ! I wouldn’t describe myself as a fan of the thrash genre in general, although I do have every Slayer album up to Undisputed Attitude. The only Metallica album I have is Kill ‘Em All, I’ve got a couple of Anthrax albums that somebody gave me because they were getting rid of their vinyl and I have no Megadeath, although I did see Megadeath on the Clash of the Titans tour where Slayer were top of the bill. I’ve heard a lot of Metallica over the years and if I have a regret it’s that I bought Kill ‘Em All over Ride the Lightning. I can’t pick a favourite from Reign in Blood/South of Heavan/Seasons in the Abyss but I agree with Pete that albums after Devine Intervention are unlistenable (except for Undisputed Attitude which I guess is a special case - I’ve probably listened to it more than any other Slayer album outside my top 3). I didn’t expect my favourite Slayer albums to be at the top of Pete and Martin’s lists and I wasn’t disappointed !

Anthrax had a much bigger following and better sales than those bands did and besides... Anthrax was formed earlier and released records before those bands did. And Testament is clearly derivative of Exodus and Metallica.

If you are getting too old to get into the fast Slayer stuff, may I then recommend a project called Slower? They are a band that plyes classic Slayer songs at like half the speed, where 2 minute tunes turn into 4 minutes. It kinda turns into Doom or Sludge riffs. Lol

Just a couple notes for context: Metallica was the first band or even musical artist in general which I discovered myself in my childhood. From ages 9-12 I´d more or less listen to Metallica exclusively, slowly discovering classic rock bands like The Beatles or Stones along the way. I´d wanted a Slayer album next (Live Undead) but my parents forbade it because I was only 9 or 10. I only became a Slayer fan at 18 or even 19. I discovered Megadeth at 13, I bought Rust in Peace afterwards and its been my favourite ever since. I finally listened to Anthrax 2-3 years ago, I think I already had For all kings for several years but only listened to it twice. Thus Metallica was the start of it all, Megadeth during the period were I truly became a music nerd and Slayer much, much later. I don´t dislike any of these albums, I even like at least 2 consecutive of each band from the early nineties, after that it gets spotty: Anthrax fell down a cliff in the mid 90s but got their mojo back in the 2000s, Metallica became a boring but acceptable studioband after Jason left, I don´t know any Megadeth album released after 1992 up until 2016, even the worst Slayer albums are still somehow listenable, but the first 5 is where it´s at. 15. Killing is my business and business is good (I know it´s got its fans but I don´t care particularly for it) 14. State of Euphoria (A couple solid tunes, but the weakest one of the Belladonna era. I even prefer their 93 album over it) 13. So far so good so what (3-4 stellar songs, the rest a bit meh) 12. FIstful of Metal (A fun Speed Metal album, nothing more, nothing less.) 11. Spreading the disease (Cementing their sound, filled with classic tunes. I´ve just got so little history with it) 10. South of Heaven (Might be much higher on some days, but there is one album which really rose in my estimation. Still one of my go to Slayer albums though. I like slow Metal, be it slow Heavy, slow Doom, Slow Thrash, slow Death...) 9. Kill em all (Absolute pummeling classic, nothing bad to say about it. Never cared for Anaesthesia. Love Cliff obviously, but Orion, Call of Cthulu or To live is to die is a much better showcase of his skills.) 8. Among the living (The sleeper album for me. I love it to bits, peak Anthrax and without a doubt one of the quintessential 80s metal albums) 7. Show no mercy (Obviously could be higher, but I love the marriage of early extreme metal like Venom, the overt Thrash and Punk stylings as well as the big NWOBTHM touch. An all out classic. Crionics man!) 6. Peace sells (I prefer it just a tad over Show no mercy, Title track one of those hits I could still listen to for the hundredth time... Second best Megadeth album) 5. Master of Puppets (One of the best albums ever, but there are just two Metallica albums which are more important to me because I got them way before this one.) 4. Reign in blood (Roughly 29 minutes of rewriting the rulebook of extreme metal. Essential.) 3. And Justice for all (For years I claimed it´s my favourite Metallica album, all killer no filler, but there is one album where there are some songs which are very near and dear to me.) 2. Ride the lightning (One of the most important albums to me, it was the last Metallica album I got before I really dived deeper into Metal and music as a whole. I liked to listen to Metallica for 3 years or so because I thought it sounded cool, but this was the first time in my life where music gave me emotional support in desperate times.) 1. Hell awaits (For a couple of years now I return to this album on a regular basis. My second favourite Thrash album, my third favourite Metal album overall. They took what Merciful Fate did on a similar mindboggling level and didn´t perfect it, but made it raw, hellish, evil. Perfect album.)

As much as i adore Martin im starting to think he's mixing up being a fan and being Metal Media. Seems like certain bands did him dirty in his eyes on a personal professional level so he's taking it out on them last few years.

You know, there might actually be examples of that, but not in this episode - I like all these guys and have had nothing but good interactions. But I would agree with you that that might happen from time to time.
