I particularly love DI because it's the most hardcore punk Slayer album (other than Undisputed, duh). And for the same reason classic Anthrax is my favorite of the 4. It's a shame how most metalheads nowadays are dismissive towards this band.

Anthrax Stomp 442 & Volume gets no love!!! I love both of those albums. Ironically those were the 2 best Anthrax shows I’ve ever seen: Buffalo July 1996 w/ The Misfits and Toronto August 1998. Volume 8 starts off really strong and takes a huge noise dive for me. I like tracks 1-8 quite a bit but the 2nd half falls way off. Stomp I never liked. Its just trying to be heavy for heavy sake and there's no memorable songs. Its like Motley Crue 94 for me.

@@nickvickers3486 Thanks. From what I've heard Martin and Pete say about Anthrax is they aren't into the band's humor particularly the album State Of Euphoria. Which was the album released right before Persistence. So I don't think either of them have given Persistence Of Time a chance which is unfortunate imo. It's easily Anthrax most serious album of the Belladonna era and my favorite Anthrax album.

Most of these albums are the reason I mainly gravitate towards Death Metal and Prog Metal for the 90s. My “hot take” as well is I personally prefer Peace Sells to Rust in Peace, and Seasons in the Abyss never did the same thing as Hell Awaits or Reign in Blood for me. I also don’t hate the Black album as much as most people do though. The big thing for me is that if I want to hear radio rock or lighter stuff, I don’t want to hear it from thrash bands.

I enjoyed Load and Reload well enough for what they were. Those albums get accused of being Metallica going alt-rock, but I hear Metallica going 70's hard rock instead. But I do have to admit, that if you cherry picked the best material from both disks, you'd have one really strong and creative album.

I really Load and Reload when they came out and still dig them today. I got into metal as a teen in the early 90s, loved the thrash stuff and the Black Album but for me when they came out with Load they were one of the coolest bands on the planet! Yes they changed but so did The Beatles going through the 60s and in both cases those changes kept the bands massive. And you make a great point about Metallica going for 70s hard rock (which is what a lot of grunge acts did too) If in an alternate universe a rock band put out Load/Reload songs in the 1970s they'd have been as big as Led Zepp!

Anthrax Persistence and Sound of white noise were great albums. Slayer never released a bad album. Exodus had some lackluster albums in the nineties. Overkill never gets any love. My favorite Testament album came out in 92. I could go on and on about this, but i wont. Good day.

19:48 "what the hell is this?" ... I was watching late at night in bed and this line cracked me up so bad... literally LOL for 5 minutes. I'm not into Metallica but I do remember the reception in 1996.

Outlaw Torn is the best song on Load and Reload combined. Its got amazing atmosphere and top notch vocals and lyrics from James. I guess some like Martin can find it boring but for me its so amazing. Thats how you do a album closer, right. I think Fixxxer on Reload was attempt to copy that same formula and its ok but not as good.

"Metallica" was actually my 1st Metallica-Album. Made me a Fan. My Sister bought "Load" a bit later. And I hated it. I don't think "Metallica" sounds similar to either "Load"-Album at all.

19:56 re: shocking (part 2). But it as Martin pointed out, there was the music but also the goth look and an album cover with blood & semen... it was a pretty weird twist under the rubric of "artistic growth"

Couldn’t disagree more about Load and Reload. Tons of atmosphere and depth in those albums, listen to those way more now than the 80’s albums thrash gets boring too quick for me anyways.

The heyday of 'big four' thrash bands was the '80s, not the '90s. The music business tried to erase thrash in the Summer of 1991. Only acts like Suicidal Tendencies, Nuclear Assault, Rancid, S.O.D., Rage, Overkill, (and I would argue progenitors Motorhead, and Accept) stayed badass thrash. The rest of the thrash acts turned '90s Nu 'metal' quicker than the Rolling Stones & the Bee Gees turned disco in the mid-'70s.
