Lordian Guard albums are absolutely worth checking out for anybody who likes Warlord. Those albums are defintely an acquired taste with their DIY feel and weird female vocals but the songs are just full of that William J Tsamis songwriting and guitar playing magic.

Really enjoyed John being in the co-captain seat for this Ranking episode and him sharing his knowledge and thoughts. Completely unfamiliar with this band before this episode but looking forward to listening to the top two chosen by John and Pete. Thanks, guys. Also, thanks to those in the chat as picked up a few band names there as well.

Great seeing Warlord getting some recognition. Most underrated metal band ever! Just a small correction, "Cannons" was not recorded live. The music was recorded in studio, and then the band dubbed it on stage as a showcase of how their concert would be. They performed to the tape, as if threy were playing live.

Impressively thorough overview, guys! Big fan since discovering the "And the Cannons..." VHS back in the '80s, particularly how William explained the band's concept and musical passion. Really cool watching "Thunder Child" take his talents to the next level in Fates Warning, too, but Warlord music forever holds a special place in my heart. Looking forward to seeing 'em next year at Hell's Heroes in Houston!

Great ranking, it would be nice to see more underground 80's stuff revisited (Omen, Chastain, Jag Panzer, Virgin Steele) I' ve loved Warlord since Metal Massacre 2-3 then the E.P, But it was the VHS that was a constant companion alongside Maidens "Live After Death" for a decade. I just dont have the time with the new one to have it any higher. 1. And the Cannons of Destruction Have Begun... 2. Deliver Us 3. The Holy Empire 4. Free Spirit Soar

This is a really weird band. They exploded onto the scene in the early 80s with a great EP and an even better debut album, just to disappear for nearly two decades. Their comeback album, fittingly called "Rising out of the Ashes", was kind of a mixed bag for me. While i love Joacim Cans in Hammerfall, i don't really think his voice suits Warlord's songs all too well. But the material was still strong enough for an enjoyable listen. The next two outputs were really kinda Heaven and Hell. While the first of the two "The Holy Empire" was clearly a return to form, their 2015 album "The Hunt for Damien" was a complete and utter disaster. This was just a couple of re-recordings with a singer, that was even more out of place than Cans. Their newest album on the other hand is a really strong one. If they could finally hold their singer for more than just one album for once, they could still have a place in modern day Heavy Metal with their still very unique and distinct style.

Hello guys, Pete, John, this is George from Greece, Warlord are huge here in Greece! A correction:This is not Mark's band with Tsamis it is the exactly oposite. Bill 's band with Mark. All the music all the feeling all the melodies are Bill' s work!!! Mark has only the drums arrangements which are fantastic!! Warlord=Bill Tsamis

I beg to differ, since i had the Honor to have some Mixes (2,4,8 ) on "From the Ashes to the Archives" i really noticed how much Marks Parts ADD to the Compositions and this IS Songwriting my Friend. All the Details make the Chords and Melodies complete.

You are right, this is very important also, but in order this arrangments to make some difference you need to have the the initial melodies from the creator. Bill Tsamis it is...

@@georgemaragoudakis2590 Thats not the whole Truth. If you are a Composer, you can also start from a Beat. The whole Drumset is tuned in different Tones and in the end you can as well create Melodies on Drums. Not saying this is the Case, in Warlord - but being able to play all these Instruments and composing too, i have a wider Angle to look at it. Cheers! And as an Example, you might be astonished how much Metallicas Drummer LArs Ulrich has an Impact on the Songwriting simply by saying, hey, lets play this twice, then we do Triplets on the E String and go to open Chords. A lot of Drummers participate in Songwrting and Arrangements.
@georgemaragoudakis2590

You are absolutely right I had Lars on mind to, but the participation of Lars is huge you can see this on everything. Marks contribution is significantly less because Bill was a control type of guy starting from the melodies the lyrics even the way the singers are gonna sing! James is a more open guy in New ideas and ready to accept them that's way him and Lars took Metallica in a different level. Don't forget that when these two (James and Bill) decided to make a time out James to hunt bears(some kind of monster) and Bill (teach in some university) the two bands activities were frozen for good. In my opinion those two are the True forces

Warlord is a good heavy metal band. The problem was always the repitition of songs in some releases which was confusing for me too, as far as what their albums were. My faves would be , the canons, Rising out from the ashes, the latest is good, too. Is Deliver Us considered an album? I will find out as I watch this ranking hahaha.

"Deliver Us" was an EP from 1983. They released a 2CD version in 2016 that has a bunch of demos and a couple of "Metal Massacre" compilation trax on it. The 2CD version is the way to go, imo.

I first heard about Warlord when i got hammerfall's first album Glory to the Brave back in the late 90's. They covered Warlord's Child of the Damned. On their second album Legacy of Kings Bill did guest guitar on the song At the End of the Rainbow. It was very hard to find any Warlord albums because they were all out of print. Missed out on Rising out of the Ashes. So i waited....for almost 20 years when i saw that they reissued all their albums as 2cd editions loaded with tons of bonus tracks. So i got all the Warlord albums, the 2 Lordian Guard albums which are both 2cd editions and worth having, plus Lordian Winds/Sea of Tranquility keyboard album which is a 2cd edition. So i finally got everything.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/gH_Ml2CufbCfpNk This was a video I had done as a tribute to Bill Tsamis. His last name is pronounced like Psalmist. I would be corrected on that after I did the video. My ranking would be using what you both did here, 6. Hunt for Damien 5. Rising From The Ashes 4. The Holy Empire. 3. Free Spirit Roar 2. ...And the Cannons 1. Deliver Us. They also have released an album where Giles Lavery redoes vocals for songs from the Rising From the Ashes as well as some stuff from the archives. That sounds wonderful as well. Great show guys!

How they even can compare the mighty "Deliver Us" to the follow-up disappointment "Cannons" is beyond my comprehension.. Jack Rucker is MILES above Rick Cunningham, and ALL songs are better presented on the EP, hands down. "Cannons" is my LEAST favorite Warlord album.
