These algae eaters are looking nice for many fishkeepers to own. Horned Nerite Snail is known for its ability to control the amount of algae in an aquarium. We have to always pay attention to the water conditions. Thank you so much for doing this video.

Agreed. Horned Nerite Snails are pretty overpowered as long as you don’t get the females mixed in with males. Panda Garras and Reticulated(not the normal) Siamese Algae Eaters are pretty damn good as well. I have all three with Amanos and a couple of Otocinculus. 😂

One species I have to add are platys. In my experience, platys have been exceptional algae eaters. The first fish I added to my 55 gallon aquarium were 3 platys, and within 24 hours the tank was absolutely spotless. I have 6 or 7 platys in there now and have never dealt with any algae issues. All they do all day is peck at anything they can find. Love them.

Years ago I fishless cycled a tank (with ammonia) and when the cycle was complete, about 3 weeks later, I had a ton of hair algae throughout the tank. I purchase a few platys and put them in the tank. They drilled through that algae like it was cotton candy. It was a riot to watch them eat it. Within a day or two, they gobbled it all up, and I never saw it in my tank after that.

So true regarding common pleco. I got one when I first started out thinking it was bristle nose pleco. after 1 year in the tank that baby started growing crazy and some fish here and there go missing. the biggest issue I had with it is the amount of waste that fish lays made my planted tank looking ugly as hell. full of algae and later one developed cyanobacteria which made me tear the whole amazing setup I had in it.

@BackyardBlacksmithingАй бұрын
Maybe a little too good! They can begin to chow down on live plants sometimes and will outcompete any shrimp you got. Ugly, but can definitely help for tank maintenance and free live food.
@erikm83722 ай бұрын
Honestly, I’d be giving ghost shrimp a D or F, at least for the category of algae-eating… because they won’t eat it! 😂 They’re not Neocaridina shrimp. As you said, they’re definitely good at being organic and food waste janitors…and of course they’ll feast on any algae wafers, and they love to eat any fresh or blanched vegetables that you want to add in. At times, I’ve seen that they’ll dominate a cucumber/zucchini slice, green bean or piece of lettuce and not let ANY fish near it! But that being said, they will eat fresh veggies but not any developed, or built-up algal growth or film. They just don’t care about it. Lol.

Thanks for your comment. You bring up a good point that there are definetly F tier shrimp and ghost shrimp could be argued for that.

I have a 120x60x60cm tank that I deliberately placed near a window on the sunny side of my apartment to maximize algae growth and after nearly a month, I still had no algae at all, minus a few crevices that were too small for any fish to enter. I finally had the idea to remove my solitary adult Chinese Algae Eater and the difference was like night and night. My tank exploded with algae in just over a week, to the point that I now have to manually scrape algae from the front pane about once per week. For the past several months, that Chinese algae eater has been living in a 150cm aquarium and I have never found algae in it. I definitely don't think F tier is justified.

@midbellmanАй бұрын
@AquariumStoreDepot they are very adaptable to water temps. I'm thinking either very high A tier. They are not a long live fish, so it is recommended to breed them. I thought they did get a little lazy at the end of their life, but don't we all. :-) My experience was that they were only territorial around a food supply, otherwise I did not see much aggression out of them.
@michellebailey6511Ай бұрын
@@AquariumStoreDepotI would easily call these guys A tier. I had a massive hair algae problem in my tank. Within 3 days the two flag fish I got demolished it.
