'Love Beach' to my surprise, other than 'Taste of my Love' and perhaps the title track to some extent - parts of it are great, was a fine musical album. The cover should have just had the island imagery on it instead.

​@kratino I bought the vinyl reissue and consider it a better 'ending' album than either Black Moon or In the Hot Seat. The island imagery at least - without the band - was a fitting last prog album.

Hey Dylan! Great video highlighting ELP! That stuff has been sitting on my shelves for years, and I haven’t pulled it out until your video! I never thought of them as a Prog band, but after your explanation and listening to several of the albums today, I totally get it! At times sounding very Pink Floyd-ish! My favorite of the bunch was the one with the Barbarian on it! That album is pure genius and was ahead of anything I know at that time! Thanks for the resurgence 🎉

Hey Dylan..props to you on ranking this catalog if I did a video on this it would be hours long as I would be switching choices around during the video. I remember "In The Hot Seat" coming out but never gave it a listen oddly. Even tough its last in line on your list I should give it a listen. I do like Black Moon and seen them on that tour which was great for me being the first time and only time seeing them live. I might of put in front of the Works albums maybe not not sure. They did perform "Pirates" when I seen them in '92 which was epic !!! Now the top 4 could go in any order at anytime for me. Really enjoyed your ranking and thoughts on the albums !! well done !! cheers !! -VK

Hello Dylan ! I only got ”Trilogy”. I got it around 78-79 approximately. It , kind of , goes well beside my #1 Mike Oldfield who released his first , the year after this. I’ve heard quite a lot more of ELP and they’re on my ”to-get-list”. Especially the 70’s releases. That’s my favourite decade in music. Closely followed by the 90’s. Cheers , bro !!!

Well done to getting In the Hot Seat ,I got it on CD when it came out but wasn’t on Vinyl until it was rereleased way after , it was a stinker !

Nice video and ranking ! I'm a big ELP enjoyer too, I even have all of the 70's studio albums on vinyl. I pretty much agree with you ranking overall, although I need to listen to their discography again, as well as In The Hot Seat which I haven't listen to yet (I probably won't miss a lot, but still). Thank you again, you make some really great content ! ^^

Pete Sinfield told me that he got flown out to Love Beach to write the lyrics for the album in around a week. He brought his hot girlfriend along. He pretty much got locked up in a cabin to write the lyrics while Keith took his girlfriend boating. Basically it was a rush job while he was being very much preoccupied by what his girlfriend was up to... and him being the only one not on vacation. This album wasn't his proudest moment. That said, I see where some of the short song lyrics come from and where Officer and a Gentleman could have gone with more work. It's not an album that lacks talent, but rather one that lacks commitment. As to Black Moon and In the Hot Seat... by this time the band members were older and less edgy. Some of the tracks honestly show more maturity. Yes some of the flamboyance and exuberance of youth was lost, but as an ELP freak that saw ELP, ELPowell and Three in concert several times, I get that they weren't the same musicians that wrote and performed Karn Evil 9. To be honest, over the years, I got older too. Give yourself a few decades and listen to the last two albums again and I think you'll know where I'm coming from. They may not rank with the first in innovation, but they represent a different time in the musicians' lives.

Unlike Yes and Genesis, my fav ELP album changes a lot. it's Tarkus one day, Brain Salad Surgery the next.

So why would you ignore the standout 'live' album that actually made ELP famous? And I put it in quotes because I have my doubts such a perfect recording was made 100% live. Nevertheless it's a great work.
