House is a great show because house is a genius diagnostician. The show gets a lot of things right but I think it’s procedurally inaccurate. Like as diagnosticians they should be covering their bases first and doing all basic tests and bloodwork to diagnose patients but they don’t always have the order right. That said, they counteract that by accurately representing extremely rare conditions and I think it’s very neat

I worked as an extra on Code Black several times, and they always had a medical professional on set whose job was to make sure the actors/extras were doing things correctly. And they hired a handful of extras weeks before the first day of filming, and sent them all through a kind of medical bootcamp. I was really impressed.

Having watched The Resident all the way through and having watched a lot of Chicago Med, I think this list is definitely impacted by which episode you watched. The Resident has a lot of good examples of medicine which lined up with what I was learning in school. Meanwhile, I saw a lot of inaccuracies in Chicago Med. Also, I put the Resident above Grey's Anatomy. I understand the freedom of Hawkins not being accurate in the resident, but they do a great job of showing the accuracies that hospitals face from an administrative standpoint

ER had the most up to date equipment. Manufacturers wanted their cutting edge instruments highlighted. They even sent their employees with their products to make sure they were used properly. Some of those techs sometimes appeared in the show.

I would add St. Elswhere. It’s considered the predecessor to ER. It was a show from the 80’s, so some of the terminology, rules and laws might be outdated. It was one of the first ensemble dramas and made Denzel Washington a star.

Back in my day, all we had was "EMERGENCY!" Interestingly, both lead actors in that series guest-starred in ER. One of them, Randolph Mantooth, became the national spokesman for EMTs for nearly 40 years. In fact, the TV show changed Emergency Medicine [stabilization] in the USA and worldwide. Top that ER.

I was actually so happy to see House where it was. I thought it was extremely fair compared to your reasoning for other lower ranked shows. I love the amount of research that is shown through House, I feel it really shows how much they tried, but of course it's a comedy so there's the inaccuracies of the hospital being a no insurance hospital, and House's position doesn't really exist IRL. And of course the way he treats patients, but I do like that they kind of nod to that with Cuddy as a character a lot. Like pointing out 'hey this isn't how we operate' but House is like 'ight bet'

I wish more medical shows would be more accurate and give credit to more professions! It’s always either all about doctors or all about nurses, etc. No show has ever shown the dynamic relationships between doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, radiologists, engineering, environmental services, etc that it takes to make a hospital run. ER is probably the most accurate because the creator, Michael Crichton, was an MD. He went to Harvard Medical school, although he never practiced, his novel "A Case of Need" was published the year before he finished medical school launched his writing career. He also admitted to not having liked medical school but completing it because he felt that at some point he *would* like it because "everyone hates medical school"

As a person who’s been the the ER more then my fair share, (I was a revolving door psych patient for 2.5 years) Who’s also had some physical health issues that had me in the ER, Chicago med is one of my favourites in terms of accuracy. Given I’ve only seen a few med dramas, but the fact they show and take great care in showing accurate representation of nurses is so heartwarming and they are just as important characters in the storylines unlike most “modern” med dramas, they also have a psychiatrist who is very kind and loves his job and genuinely wants to help people get better. I love it.

An episode of House helped w/ my dad’s diagnosis. He was sick and the doctors couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t getting better. A good family friend was a big House fan and mentioned to us an episode w/ a patients who had the same symptoms as my dad. We mentioned this to drs. and they listened to us and tested for it. Low and behold it was the same thing!! It was a rare brain infection. I don’t remember the medical term for it.

ER being number one is so funny! When I was in nursing school the teachers all decided to give up and let us do homework on ER Thursday nights to turn in Friday morning. We had to describe the good things, the bad things, and we had like four opinions we had to write on findings that we found whether they were good or bad. Then a care plan fir the featured patient of the episode. It was the best homework ever!

@@graces.2632 I do not think that is always the case. I remember watching a medical drama years ago and they were explaining the diagnosis. At the bottom of the screen the condition was written in Korean and the subbers translated it. During the scene I did not recall any English being used. However, they might have used a shorten phrase or acronym in Korean. If I am remembering correctly in that scene, the medical term was coronary embolism it was something about the vein/arteries being clogged. I remembered it because I was in high school at the time and was interested in medicine.

Actually I saw an episode, where Dr. Ross saved a young boy, trapped in some sort of sewage channel and he had to do a pulmonary decompression with a ballpoint pen. Don't know about the other shows but The Good Doctor has extremely high production value, crisp story lines, solid characters with some absolute great performances for at least the first 3-4 seasons. One thing that will stand out for this show is Professionalism and Discipline of the field and characters. You won't see crazy romances or some modern social media hype but at the same time it's not boring or extremely verbose.
