Aqublue3dsi well i mean they techmically started as one🤔 anime fighters only means a fg game with an anime look or asthetic to it so in a way you could say early vers. KOF, SF and Tekken(the very old ones i guess) are one but nowadays they kinda strayed away from it tho KOF still kinda maintains that anime fighter feel to it.

@@themage1016 No they didn't. KOF, FF, and AOF started as a direct rival to Street Fighter. Which is not/was an anime fighter. KOF 13 is the only title that resembles an anime fighter. Other then light color, fast paced action, and easy execution

Aqublue3dsi dude one reason the art style😑 the vers of these games use the anime asthetic ex of that as i said earlier SF-SF3 used the anime asthetic until the switch to full 3d, same goes for KOF. one more similarity between the anime Fg and these ones are the way the chars are designed, many of them used the common tropes(power ups, projectiles such as ryu's haduken) found in anime. so while they are not really a true anime fg they could technically(you seem to miss this word as usual, which means they could or in a way😑) fall into the same catergory(also being 3d doesnt mean they arent anime bruh😑 they are style is still there however they are on 3d models, look at gg xrd thats one ex of a 3d anime fg, if not satisfied try looking at the KOF and SF 3d models they still maintained some of that animeish look to them😐)

Been playing since Soul Blade. Can confirm, though Soul Blade is very clunky and I didn't play the first Calibur. The fundamentals of SC is your movement. There's a lot you can get away with when you realize your enemy's ability to move around is worse than yours. I like playing Voldo for that reason. Tons of gimmicks in his stances that you can lean into, then just stop and stick to fundamentals since his basic attacks come out pretty fast anyways. It can really mess with people's heads.

Smash Melee is difficult af. I know a lot of you dont consider it a fighting game because Sakurai says it isn't and because items are in the standard gameplay but let's be real. Smash is completely made up of fighting game concepts and techniques, and no reputable tournament has items legal in the rules, so at the least, it is partially a fighting game. Having said that, Melee is just as difficult if not more so than half the 2d fighters on this list. Search "How fast is Melee" or "How fast is westballz" on youtube and you can clearly see how technically difficult it really is to play that game at a high level. I love classic fighters, grew up playing street fighter and mortal kombat but I've never played something as difficult as melee.
@Hibernial5 жыл бұрын
Joshua Stafford Melee feels super rewarding when you stick with a (viable) main. It’s really hard looking outside in to see the game in a competitive light as a platform fighter. But yea. For anyone’s who tried playing some Melee against a fairly good player, it’s a bewildering experience. And for anyone who’s played a 4 stock match on the handful of tournament legal stages, it’s frantic and fast, demanding on the timing of precise inputs while having fluid movement, along with mind game layers being very deep. Versatility of options are always present amongst the viable cast of characters, so matches can take really fast turns in anyone’s favor. People seem to say Melee’s up there with some of the most demanding competitive games, although not quite exactly at the top. StarCraft is more demanding on inputs and its layers of multi tasking, as well as probably some few other traditional fighters like GG or KoF that have their intentionally complex mechanics to consider in game. I think Melee is just under the very top of most difficult competitive games. And to be honest, I wouldn’t want it to be any more difficult than it already is to play.

Smash is just very different to other fighting games since there's edge guarding, ledge trapping and stage control. Also something that i think people don't point out enough about in smash are percentage specific combos. some combos stop being true if you're just a few percent off. and when you add rage and character weight into the mix, it just gets impossible for me to keep track of. Of course this really only matters if you are playing a combo character. But from looking at some guides about tekken, damn does it look hard.

However, with all due respect, a lot of this video felt almost pointless when you had nothing to say about the games you weren't familiar with. Not that I don't agree with many of the points you made, but when you yourself express that you don't know much about several of these games, you come off as uninformed, and I end up asking myself "Why am I watching this?" Maybe next time you can have a guest who can speak about those other games, or perhaps do more specific research and delve into their combo systems and mechanics as apposed to calling them "timing based." @@demoghost1998 if you have no experience with the game, or barely know the game, why are you even talking about it? for Tekken 7 for example, if you actually researched and learned about the game, sure on average each character has about 120 moves, but about a third is just basic universal commands like 1,2 input punch, 1,1 punch, or 1,4 jab-kick, or 1+3 or 2+4 grab which every single character has, and if you ask ANY decent tekken player, they will use only about 25-30 moves in their regular gameplay, with occasional random moves just to switch it up, so when someone says things like "this game has too many moves blah blah blah", its obvious you've never spent more than 1 hour actually trying to learn the game, so it's pointless to make a video which includes games you don't even know.

I don't think learning your character is that difficult in tekken, the problem is learning how to deal with your opponents character. Whether you main an advanced character or the characters meant for beginners, everyone has to struggle learning the matchups against your opponent. Also, because tekken is 3d it opens up a ton of options for you and your opponent that you don't have in 2d games. The simple action of moving your character is locked behind advanced techniques which is strange but beautiful. Combo execution in tekken is probably easier than some of these 2d games though.

Aris said it best about tekken "You learn a certain situation and now you have a piece of the puzzle. And the puzzle is 5000 pieces. And that's just for this one match up. Welcome to tekken, kid". And it do be like that. Especially when you main someone like hwoarang, which I used to do. You have to know what moves will hit, depending on at what angle your opponent hits the wall, for example. Not to mention the moves are hidden behind different stances, and there's tons of 3+4 for stance cancels and transitions which is impossible to do consistently if you're playing on a controller traditionally, with your thumb. I was playing at a pretty low level and knew the character ok and still lost a lot to easier-to-play characters. And tekken is just overall too situational. You can't just learn two combos (midscreen and corner) and be good to go like in some games.
@endresee5 жыл бұрын
Killer Instinct is way too low. Yeah, it’s easy to pick up a controller and start doing big combos within a few minutes. But you won’t win that way. You have to constantly vary combos or you’ll get broken, and even if you do that, decent players can break heavies and mediums on reaction with decent consistency. So then you’ve got to learn manuals, where the timing is just as hard in KI as in street fighter. Also, there are almost 30 characters and they all play *way* different from each other. All of them have a character-specific combo mechanic and many of them have character specific resources and special abilities that change the fundamental rules of the game. And their special moves are often bonkers. Just learning the moves of the cast is a huge challenge, and you have to know them to compete. And I’d say a good 1/3 of the cast is almost unplayable unless you have a high skill level because their tools require so much precision to use effectively. Just my two cents.

@endresee5 жыл бұрын
Mauro Bay I haven’t played Tekken so I won’t comment on it but I don’t think my comments are applicable to most fighting games. I’m aware of no other fighting game where every combo is a huge multi-step mixup. Usually once you open the opponent up you’re guaranteed a decent chunk of damage if you can execute the combo. And I’m aware of no other games with anything close to the character variety in KI, or anything close to the number of character-specific mechanics. Not moves. Mechanics. There are plenty of games with lots of characters, but usually the characters all play similarly to one another or fall into like 3-5 archetypes. In KI, with a small handful of exceptions, every character plays vastly differently from every other character. So maybe Tekken is hard but I sincerely doubt it’s hard for the same reasons KI is hard.
@TheUpsetFlan5 жыл бұрын
@@endreseeLol you seriously think that in tekken (but also in other fighting games on this list) all the character are the same? No matter if you know the character you're using, if you don't know at least 20 moves and the general playstile of the opponent's character you already lost. So yeah, tekken is harder in every single way. After you learn playing tekken, KI becomes a walk in the park.
@endresee5 жыл бұрын
Mauro Bay I think my comment was pretty clear that yes, every fighting game has character differentiation, but the sheer magnitude of differentiation in KI is unique. @@bbeanli Its definitely not "crazy easy". Its very easily one of the hardest fighters out and VERY few pros players in any scene would disagree with that. Simple movement takes a pretty good amount of time to get used too and get good at, characters having lots of strings and options makes not only getting used to your character more difficult but learning matchups even more difficult. Even if you only count the "useful" moves, in a lot of cases you still end up with a hell of a lot more moves than most games. And yes legacy skill says a lot about the depth of this game, if one could just pick up Tekken 7 and play as well as franchise veterans at the start, your game probably isnt that deep. Execution is also pretty strict on a lot of characters. The only reason it may feel "crazy easy" is if you play with like green ranks who lose to strings, since they havent put in the time or have the experience to know how to avoid/punish them. There is a reason you dont really see many pro players from other fighters jumping into this game and dominating. There is a hell of a lot more to go over but ive already written too much.

James Flanagan Well I could be wrong but it’s not really stated that this list is specifically about “picking up the game” more so difficulty all around. Tekken is easy to pick up because you can learn a couple of strings and have FUN with it but this doesn’t mean you are good or even slightly competent at it, this just means the game is ENTERTAINING, for new players. When we talk about general “difficulty” it’s safe to say we are talking about depth, or how easy it is to become a decent competitor, this is should take into account skill gap between levels of play. Calling someone an even DECENT player in relation to the entire scene is a HUGE compliment. It doesn’t matter if it’s because of legacy skill or whatever else because other games can not achieve this.

Maybe you haven't played DBFZ, but every character has an A,B, and C assist like MVC and every character's assists are varied and tied to the characters personality. DBFZ on the surface may look simple because quarter circle S could likely be a beam, but the frame data is so varied per character that if you think you can just use a beam or command grab with everyone you will be sorely mistaken. Even though the character's move's lists are not as long as tekken and there aren't as many features as GGS, to be top tier at this game, between extension rejump combo's, as you mentioned the incredibly high pace, and the crucial accuracy of your movement, its right up there with the toughest elite fighting games. Tekken 7 has them both: links and chains. Also there's 10 hit string combos, but they're not natural combos, they can be blocked or parried even after getting hit by half of the string. The only difference with other fighting games like Street Fighter is that sometimes in Tekken you need a counter hit to change the property of a chain combo making it a natural combo. Because not all chain combos in Tekken are natural or like you call them in SF "target combos", some of them can indeed be chained but aren't target combos, others are and some others need a counter hit to become target combos like I mentioned above. But when I think of it, aside from Akuma, Eliza and Geese, Tekken characters don't have many link combos and even if they do, it has to be after a counter hit, stunning taunt, or a wall bounce after specific grab. Basically, the closest thing to link combos in Tekken are juggles.

Advice to getting a pro in fighting games: Regular Fighting Game: "Pick a character that you like, look up guides and train hard every day." Tekken: well... (takes a deep breath).. 1. Set up a daily schedule for training 1h/day "Korean Backdash Cancel" and learn to proper move for maybe the next few years. 2. Decide if you should switch to a Stick/Hitbox/Mixbox/Keyboard/Controller because of "Korean Backdash Cancel".. 3. In the meanwhile pick a character that you like and look up all moves for ALL THE OTHER characters... 4. Look up videos how to counter other characters 5. And if you can spare some time, have a look at your move list and look up some combo guides. Shocks me to see KI on this list; I've been playing fighting games for years and I found KI to be one of the easier ones to adjust to and feel comfortable with, which at first I just assumed was because it uses L-M-H punches and kicks, but I now realise was because the game's mechanics were so well implemented that they were easy to get to grips with by just playing the game for a bit. Once you've gone through arcade mode once or twice then you're pretty much sorted with the game and are getting on with finding mains and feeling out combos with different characters instead of still struggling with three types of cancel or different levels of special moves.

@@Psypsypsyy hit up your local melee scene and get absolutely destroyed to see how wide of a gap there is. Melee is the quintessential "easy to pick up, hard to master" game. The skill ceiling is insanely high from both a technical and theory crafting perspective. Now that being said coming from a platform fighting background, i personally find transitioning into more traditional FGC titles to be super difficult, but a lot of FGC players have similar troubles into switching over to Smash, RoA, Brawhalla etc. Its a pretty subjective idea anyways so both of you are taking your opinions too factually. But still I find smash to be one of the most fulfilling fighting game experiences, granted you give yourself a few months to get a solid idea for fundamental techniques and application of them. I bet those people placing KI and DOA on the bottom of the list never had dug into those games. Yes KI has a combo assist system and it's easy to mash some buttons, but you have lots of other mechanics to master and each fighter is unique on it's play stile even with "simplified" controls. Doa can be as complex as tekken with a huge amount of combo possibilities to learn and fighters getting different status, and if you think that mastering the parry system is easy, good luck with that.

Great concept for a video, but I have some significant reservations with it. Tough love incoming, and I promise you, I'm not saying this to be hateful or anything. - Not pronouncing basic things correctly that are also part of the topic (BlazBlue) - The whole Soul Calibur audio take was the lowpoint, felt unplanned, almost like it was done in one take - Slower talking pace in general - Spoken word did not seem well planned out, very improve feel on most of the segments - Uncertainty with Skullgirls. You seemed to question if 2 character teams existed as your own footage of you playing a 2-man team is right behind it - UNIST was a good segment. I think this is because you have familiarity with the game. "Advantages and weaknesses" could have easily been summed up as "matchups" though. - I perceived this as the part you had the least knowledge on by far. Combos in SF work no differently than in any other game. Hitstun takes longer to get out of than the startup frames of the next attack. "weird timing system" and "chaining naturally" are not educated phrases. There is very simple math behind how combos work in every single fighting game. - KoF is also not an anime fighter by design. It plays out much more like a traditional fighter. It may "look anime" but that doesn't categorize it as such. - The animosity towards Tekken felt like it came from a place of closed-mindedness and unwillingness to try and learn something. Making a channel about fighting games and then belittling it with the harsh language and dismissive attitude doesn't lend well to unbiased takes or getting people on board. Imagine a diehard Tekken fan's reaction to that segment. And the most egregious of all...! - Showing footage of MVCI Okay, I was just having fun with that last one. I understand that the ratings and games were all crowdsourced in terms of topicality, but the presentation was very poor in my mind. Again, I don't say these things for fun or to be a jerk, I'd just hope you can learn from this video and improve. You clearly have a passion for this kind of thing and I hope your channel grows and develops over time. Don't give up, man.

Soul Calibur shouldn't even be close to the bottom of this list. This is what happens when you ask communities (larger or smaller) what games are easiest. You didn't even know what to say about Soul Calibur and you called it casual on a whim. You don't know anything about the pro play, the mix ups, the masterful timing and deep depth on match ups. Being a late bloomer in fighting games, Melty Blood Act Cadenza then Actress Again was the fighting game that got me into playing fighting games on a serious level, which got me into learning combo strings and getting more familiar with button commands. Before I played a lot of Tekken 3, Guilty Gear X2, KOF2k2 and MvC but on a scrub level, either I just button mashed or do a single string or two over and over and never got good at any, until I came back and tried Tekken and Guilty Gear again after a few years. I would say it's like DBFZ, it's easy to pick up but gets harder on higher levels when it comes to fast-paced matches. The general mechanics are easy to grasp, and the characters has only a few key differences in terms of specials, mostly either fireball motions, DP motions, and down+down motions. From experience, the hardest Fighter is Kof. The timing is really strict, and comboing becomes an art form. As for 3D fighters, Soul Calibur is actually not easy. I think it matters a lot what you grew up with and how the individual interprets the game. I like tekken and find it much easier than sf because I grew up with it I think. You get used to stepping and all that stuff, just like how you'd get used to any other game but possibly the downside to playing one fighting game primarily is that you get stuck in the mechanics of your game. It feels weird going from tekken to 2d fighters because I lose sidestepping as an option and instead have to learn to deal with air pressure and crossups. That's my opinion and experience with fighters.

Same here actually! I have NEVER really improved much in Street Fighter, it just feels so, so different from Tekken even though on paper it should be much simpler. I think I just find Tekken's setup to be logical by having each face button tied to a different limb, so I have a rough idea of what to expect even if it's a character I'm not familiar with. 3D maneuvering also feels natural to me to sidestep telegraphed attacks and combos feel really easy to cancel out of and super tight and responsive and simple to mixup and play mindgames. Street Fighter I feel relies more on understanding different meters/modes plus it feels trickier to chain combos naturally because most attacks feel like they have much stricter timing to pull off, plus needing to manage air attacks, hyper/super combos and a more limited moveset. I didn't really get into fighters until Tekken Tag and Tekken 5 though. I grew up with Virtua Fighter and Street Fighter 2, and I was abysmal at both at the time (likely because I was like 5 years old) and nothing clicked for me until I picked up T5 in my early teens.

That's crazy that Tekken got most difficult, there aren't too many 3D fighters in comparison to 2D but as a series it has less and simpler mechanics. Virtua Fighter and DOA definitely have more complexity. Also KOF is very long lasting series starting from the early 90's and has always had the reputation of high level play. "SNK Boss Syndrome" is a term that exists just because of how crazy hard their games are!
