@@shetlandapache949 I hadn't thought of it that way, which is odd, because usually my anxiety makes me catastrophise everything. 🙃 I suppose it's a glass half full vs. half empty problem, i.e. a matter of perspective. - In the predominant point of view, Biden recovered well by turning his small but embarrassing mistake into a good-humoured celebration of a local politician who happens to be disabled. - From your POV, Biden turned an honest mistake into an actual insult by unintentionally calling attention to the man's disability, then doubling down when he realized his error. I don't think either view is wrong; they're literally just different angles on the same event; altered not by malice but by the differing backgrounds, experiences, cultural contexts, life histories, etc. of the people viewing the event. It's Rashomon. Either way, thank you for offering a different way of looking at things. We may come to different conclusions as to intent & outcomes, but it's always valuable to try to think through a situation from different perspectives.

I never understood the furor over the 'Dean scream'. He was trying to energize his supporters after a 3rd place finish in hopes of a better result in New Hampshire. I was old enough to vote and he seemed like a much better candidate than Kerry to me but all anyone could focus on was the scream and it played over and over on TV. This might have been my first education in meme culture. It doesn't have to make sense. Of course it wasn't the first time a meme derailed presidential dreams -- Winfield Scott's 1852 campaign got bogged down due to a 'hasty bowl of soup'. That one has never made sense to me either. I guess you had to be there.

Fun Fact: The Dean Scream wasn't seen as odd at all to ppl attending the rally, incl journalists. With all of the noise at the event, the scream only seemed extreme after the fact bc Dean had the microphone, making him sound even louder to tv viewers as the background noise was lowered. Also, it was the editors/producers of news programs, not reporters on site, who wanted to make a big deal of it, running the scream ad nauseam & making it a viral moment in pop culture.
