My thoughts exactly, seems from his gameplay that he's mainly trying to exploit super armour and stagger in the case of humans to win, I mean I get it, it's fair, bit too careless fr my taste but whatever works I will say though, as a light build, I agree both tokichiro fights were super easy, guess 2nd one is kinda justified bc of Koji Kashin, but personally I would have msde him abit harder, I mean, it's your old friend, the one that got further than anyone else before him by using spirit stones, was a bit underwhelming, it was a nasty surprise though thst he doesn't count as human on 2nd fight unlike during 1st, so I couldn't grapple after paralyze / swords counter him But yeah, shibata katsuie was pretty easy for a light build, especially ninjutsu since he's super vulnerable to paralysis and poison, I had more trouble with Toshie Maeda, spear guy on that same mission

In order to stop any of Shibata charges (in my experience) stand your ground, block his charge in midstance. This will cause him to try and break your guard with an attack. Immediately after you block his charge, dodge diagonally towards him to slip under his arms when he uppercuts. if you time it correctly you'll slip his uppercut and then after this, the thing you need to look for is if he follows up his uppercut with a quick down slash. If not, you have free quick damage at his back. Pay close attention after his uppercut though bc his down slash is very deceptive. Sometimes he throws it and other times he just goes back into his regular stance, both of which have a similar startup animation. Other than that the only two things you need to be mindful of are the burn accumulation you'll build when he charges with fire and the spin attacks he does to square himself back up with you. I hope this advice helps anyone that gets annoyed by him.
@dandan30454 жыл бұрын
You don’t even need to block his charge. You can dodge right under it. The problem is sometimes he follows it up with his spinning axe move or nothing. It becomes a guessing game after dodging under his charge. I hated the Shibuya boss so much.

"The majority of Nioh 1 bosses boil down to melt or be melted" - really depends on your build and how much you want to practice each boss. Even your example of a boss that melts you (Shigezane) can be killed in a single hit by paralysis builds or easily afflicted with confusion and combo'd indefinitely. On the other hand, you can also not use cheese tactics and actually avoid every attack he does and slowly bring down his HP / Ki in a proper fight. The game is as hard as you want it to be, totally up to the player (hello sloth talisman). Hard to compare until we get higher difficulties in Nioh 2, currently no boss took more than 4-5 tries but I'm sure it will get harder once the DLCs are released just like Nioh 1.

Not related to the boss video itself, but I love Saito's grab AND the fact that you can also get it if you farm him/her. For those who don't know: Human bosses in Nioh 2 can occasionaly drop Combat Arts, which adds new combat skills to a specific weapon, and Saito's Dragon Claw in this case is a Dual Sword ability that replaces the standard Grapple. They have to be farmed, though, so put on the Kodamam Bowl, slap on the Hunter's Blessing-maybe even Itokuri if you have unlocked Hisahide's boss fight- and go farm those bosses to kingdom come. Edit: Welp, I called it. Shibata skullfucked me to the point where I wondered if I was in the 2nd Circle of Hell. But he DID make me wanna try out the Dual Hatchets and he-like Sanada and Sakon in Nioh 1- have my graditude for making me wanna use other weapon types. It's so cool how boss battles (and even common enemy encounters) leave a completely different first impression depending on your build and playstyle. Kamaitachi was the first boss I beat in one try AND the first boss I beat with no help from benevolent graves or a friendly summon (I'm very scared of boss fights so I never go in alone the first time). It was almost disappointingly easy. And Enera gave me a bit of trouble, but I beat him in a couple of tries at a low level with a benevilent grave, who died in the first third of the fight because their AI is abysmal. Imagawa, on the other hand, tears me a new one every time. Every build, every run, any weapon or strategy, he just makes a total punk of me. I only ever do that mission once, to avoid him. And I never got into the brute counter, but used feral for the vast majority of the game and always found it super useful and easy to implement for every occasion. Mastering my burst counter was something I focused on before I even left part 1, so it was always in my arsenal. But one thing we can agree on is the fucking bonkers range on Gozuki's vertical smash. No matter how many times I face one of those things, I run backwards and think "this is far enough!" just before he squashes me. And on the rare occasion I remember to just dash horizontally instead of back, rotating instead of retreating, I get my timing off and he tracks me and still gives me the business.
@sedy52974 жыл бұрын
A very good tip against Shibata Katsuie is to activly stop his charges through the arena. How do you do that?....Weeeeeell, you have to stand in the charging boar's way. If you block his charge he will immediatly do his follow up attacks. So it's best to block and dodge behind him for a good opportunity for damage. Same goes for the Dark Realm phase but you can take it one step further there. If you attack him and manage to hit his tusks then he will also suffer large Ki damage. Many bosses have such a trick to them. Like Gyuki, you can bait his charge into the floodgates to get him stuck and attack his actual weakspot - his legs. Or the before mentioned snake arms of Yatsu-no-Kami or the pillars in the fight against Enenra. Otakemaru doesn't have such a weakness :/ That's why he is undoubtedly the number one for me.

Still it's always a treat to see a fellow player's perspective on things like this.

Definitely comes down to play styles. The bosses you had an easier time with, I struggled against, and vice versa. I honestly believe boss movesets in Nioh 2 don't add or take away that much from the difficulty- it's common themes like big damage output while having large hp pools, and perhaps enemies that are programmed dodge magic/ninjutsu while also being able to cancel attack animations to avoid being punished. Lady O was annoying as hell for me, as you pretty much needed eyes in the back of your head/screen to avoid hard-hitting magic attacks. Excellent video.

Nice list! It's funny how different experiences can be. You have bosses in the top 10 that I destroyed in one or two tries, whereas some of your bottom 15 brutalized me. I think it's a testament to the game's balance and versatility frankly. I was also running a very different build from you, so I didn't have a lot of magic to rely on. Some of that might have made a difference, but I imagine I would have had similar problems with the same bosses regardless.
@bigdread38944 жыл бұрын
The difference in build and play style in Nioh 2 is striking. My experience were so very different to yours aside from the big snake guy being tough and requiring a change up. A solid example is the weasel of windy-blades. I downed him no trouble with my nodachi by just blocking and giving the buddy the ol'chop when he took a breather. However, that grab from icey sword bro would straight up 1 shot me and I saw it was just giving you some razor burn.

I whole heartedly agree with your hardest pick. I had never gotten so angry at a boss before Katsuie. Something that made beating the boss so much easier was the realization that you should be dodging towards him when he does a charge attack. No matter which kind. It's a little bit stingy with the grab charge and may not be reliable, but always, always, always dodge towards him for the other two charge attacks.

For me the hardest would be: Owl boss: This guy was damn tough and I kept dying to him so I brought in a companion to fight against...and even that was no use until I got used to this bastard's style. Mataza: This guy forced me to use items to regain my Amirita so that I can use my yokai ability to hurt him. His 2nd and 3rd fight were much more easier. Otakemaru: No joke I had almost defeated him on the first try until his grab attack instant killed me. Had to call a support just to be a distraction. Katsuie: This MOTHERFUCKER! Had caused me intense rage via dying all over again and again and again...CAUSE OF HIS DAMN GRAB ATTACK THAT INSTANT KILLS ME AND HOW HARD IT IS TO DODGE! Of course I realised that it's cause I wore light armor so I switched to a medium armor setup that thankfully saved me when I got hit by his grab attack and by the time I defeated him it was already the next day around 4 A.M IIRC god was defeating him so satisfying...then I fought him again in his sub quest after finishing the game...god was using Otakemaru's Yokai Ability so good against him - w -

It's crazy how different playstyles makes the boss difficulty ranking such a diverse spectrum of opinions, having just beaten the last main mission today (Sword/Spear most-used weapons, heavy Stamina build, only talismans used were weapon elemental buffs), the Tokichiro fights left me near out of elixirs by the end and made me glad the fights felt like a dual against equals. I have to agree on Katsuie being the hardest though, tight rooms with high mobility for a hard hitting boss that can inflict fire debuff to chip your health away all the more which could lead to a quick death if you make one mistake.

No problem at all, I'm always down for transparency. In my older videos, I wasn't as comfortable with my own style of commentary. I wanted my passion to come across, and I thought the best way to do that was to "heighten" my voice. Over the years, I've become more confident in my ability to convey my passion through both words and tone. So I don't perk my voice up quite the same as I used to. Instead I just project and talk as if I'm speaking to a friend casually. I like this style better, but I'm curious what you and others think. Trust that my level of excitement hasn't changed. If anything, I'm enjoying making videos more than ever.

Actually, Saito Yoshitatsu uses the two Guardian Spirits you didn't choose at the beginning, so it's up to the player which two forms they get to use against you. I chose the Shark that lets you use Phantom because you get a Feral Form Guardian Spirit from Tokichiro when you first meet him, and the Brute Guardian Spirits are also fairly quick to start getting compared to Phantom. You can also get the two Guardian Spirits you didn't choose later by doing two particular Sub Missions.

Shibata Katsuie can be stopped just by hitting him. The safest way is to just use a burst counter. He's dangerous but he seems to have small poise. The final boss was definitely the hardest for me. I think the weapon played a huge role. He used a glaive which has a range where Tokichiro's grab attack cannot reach. I used odachi and tried using swirling snow but he punished heavily with the grab. And he heavily punished using any weapon with short reach. I've never tried glaive before and thought it isn't powerful but this video proved me otherwise. And that's the beauty of Nioh 2 with so many different playstyles

I fought Katsuie pre-nerf, and I noticed a couple things about him. 1. As backwards as it sounds, dodging into him during his lunges and charges is a really consistent way of dodging them. Just get the timing down. 2. If he does spin-to-win, lure him close to a wall so when he throws his axes, they disappear on said walls, allowing you to get into melee range much sooner. 3. Don't be greedy with attacking him from behind, he has very fast back-swings. Just go for 1-3 hits depending on the speed of your weapon, and watch his arms for the back-swings. 4. Just beat game today, the game is super addicting and for most part fun. However, the inventory loot system honestly gets to the point where I almost wanted to quit, really annoying after any mission to go thru all the pointless crap that you pick up, to offer it at a shrine or have blacksmith dissemble it. Some people love it, I do not and much preferred Sekiro where you play whole game with one sword! It's not that I don't like different weapons, just needs to be a balanced.
