Pokemon: The Rise of Darkrai is my favorite Pokemon film of all time, so it made me very happy to see how high up on your list it was! From Darkrai's past to the movie feeling like an actual clash between gods, it just brings me soooo much serotonin. I'm really glad there was no human enemy in that movie. And I can listen to Oracion and Darkrai's theme on repeat for ages.

17:45 No, we see Molly unexplicably appearing on the back of Entei and then morphing into an older version of herself, as Entei rushes to take care of Ash and Co. I too was confused as I didn't at first catch on that grown up Molly was just an illusion while the younger real version had been left in the bedroom all along, but it IS in fact shown, and Misty too comments that Professor Hale's daughter is much younger and that the real one must therefore be somewhere else.

Brilliant list. I forgotten how much I loved Destiny Deoxys in particular. It was one of the few Pokemon films I still enjoyed as a teenager with the attitude that Pokemon was just for kids. The only changes I would probably have made if it was my list, would be to have Spell of the Unown in the Top 5, same with Destiny Deoxys. That's about it and even the choices I disagree with, you articulate your points very well and I can respect where you're coming from with some of these. Excellent two part videos.

Thanks for the kind words! I was blown away by how much I enjoyed Destiny Deoxys. I had no nostalgia attached to it and Gen 3 is one of my least favourite gens usually, so I was shocked. Honestly, most of the films from 11-5 could switch positions on any given day. I think the quality is pretty even across that range, with 3-1 being the clear standouts in the franchise.

About Gen 3. Growing up, I loved the Gen 3 anime, but I didn't like the Gen 3 games all that much. I dunno, something about them didn't grab me (I remember liking Colosseum and XD though). In recent years, i do prefer 3 to 1 and 2, but I still have some issues.

Fun fact about Master of Illusions - This movie was promoted with 4 different gamestop wifi events in HeartGold and SoulSilver (back when those were a thing), 3 of which being the shiny Raikou, Entei and Suicune that appear in the film. That's pretty cool on its own, but later on there was a Celebi event. This event unlocked a small mini-sidequest in Ilex Forest that I won't spoil if you haven't seen it, its really cool. HOWEVER - these 4 events triggered even more events in Black and White. Taking the 3 shiny legendary dogs (cats? idk they look more catlike to me) to a certain area will allow you to battle and catch Zoroark. Taking the Celebi to another area in Castelia City gives you a cute lil cutscene where a Zorua in disguise recognizes the Celebi and joins your team. All in all, some of the most well thought out and eventful (heh) series of pokemon events we've ever had.

8:11 Actually there is a decent amount of evidence that it could Bianca. We got shown on purpose that Bianca left her hat behind when she had been wearing it the entire movie so shes got to have a good reason to take it off right. 2)the girl was visibly tired for a second after running to catch to up to Ash which is something that latias never showed previously while being chased. 3)Lastly the song before the kiss is called Canon(music) which is similar and pronounced the same as Bianca's Japanese name of Kanon(sound of flower) Also for those who say Bianca showed no interest should note that it doesn't take much for girls to fall for Ash especially if he saves them. Case 1 Macy who went from not liking Ash when they first meet to suddenly wanting plan their future together after Ash saves her and her Pokemon.

I actually was very harsh to Power of Us at first- I thought some the characters, especially the little girl, were annoying and found it difficult to enjoy the film. But looking at it again, I do see why it's so beloved. The character development is great, the pacing isn't nearly as bad as I first thought it was, and I actually find myself empathizing with every character (yes, including the little girl) looking back. Perhaps my issue is with the dub, because I find when English dubs try to do a "kid" voice it's just grating, but my opinions on it have definitely softened. Also, the scene that got me in I Choose You was when the kid with the Lucario (forgot his name) was remembering his Luxray. The flashback where the Luxray sacrificed itself to save him, with a comforting smile on its face as if knowing this was its fate but knew the boy could go on... I couldn't help but cry. It really hit me hard for some reason, harder than the end with Pikachu and Ash. Anyways, this was a great list! You definitely explained your reasoning well and while I disagree with a few picks, I can see where you're coming from with each pick. I know this vid is almost a year old, but I hope you see this and know your content is great and well-written!

9:25 Uhh, no? It doesn't? I mean sure Pokémon looking dirty and horrifying IS a stark contrast to the animated series, but what else would you expect from a movie that tries to bring these creatures into the real world? In the real world these creatures WOULD look like this. I recently showed the trailer to a bunch of 5 year old kindergarten kids, and when they saw the scaly creature that was Charizard they ofcourse remarked that it looked scary. And I'm like no SHIT does live-action Charizard look scary! It's a mofo FIRE DRAGON, of COURSE it would look scary being brought into the real world. Detective Pikachu didn't just want to make cartoony models of the Pokémon and put them in the real world, it wanted to show what they would actually realistically look like. That was what I expected going into the movie, it was what I got, and I wasn't disappointed.

The only pokemon films I saw as an adult were Detective Pikachu and Power of Us. (I've seen others but those aren't fresh in my memory bank) I honestly didn't like Power of Us because I felt that it was lacking a central plot and there was just too much going on. I really loved Detective Pikachu though.
@PikaLink912 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying Power of Us is bad, but I lost interest in the plot halfway through, actively paused the movie and didn't pick it back up until weeks later, at which point it felt more like a commitment. The title felt like a reverse spit in the face to Power of One, and the conflict being caused by something as mundane as Team Rocket doing an oopsie and not having an actual real villain, really hurt the movie for me. That, and I hate the new design for Ash, not to mention the fact that the movies (after I Choose You which was a wreck as well) do no longer follow the anime but have their own continuity as well. The movies always followed the anime, it was tradition, like how the games always came in two versions with a third definitive version to follow which Sun and Moon shot in the arse. The movies were an extension of Ash's adventures in the anime, not their own seperate entities. Is nothing sacred anymore?

... you put I Choose You above Spell of the Unown? Seriously? I Choose You is BY FAR the worst Pokemon movie I have ever watched. Also, your criticism of Spell of the Unown is just absurd. The girl isn't trying to stop them, the girl is trying to play as a Pokemon trainer. And she is very young and naive, so she probably doesn't think that far.

Sorry but objectively speaking, 3 is a lot better than 1 and 2. Unlike those two films, it has a legit story about a person. The other two had uninspired narratives and mostly poor usage of good ideas. Pokemon 2000 in particular is essentially if Michael Bay directed a Pokemon film. Did we really need to watch what feels like 5 minutes of three birds going at each other? You can have some action to break up the slower parts, but the direction is clueless in execution.
@nobodysixty964 жыл бұрын
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 while i do agree with you on some points, the main story of the spell of thee unknown feels way too forced for me to enjoy. @@nobodysixty96 'out of all of the 3 billion moms in pokemon somehow ashes mom gets kidnapped' Okay, where were the other 2.999.999 mums in the anime? Also, you're taking a scene out of context. Molly and Entei clearly see Ash and his mum on the laptop screen. 'Papa, I want a mama too' says Molly, and that's all you need. 'and whatever the fuck happened with unknown ever summoning entei is never explained' Oh I don't know. I mean I see Molly putting together the Unown letters spelling 'papa, mama, and me' as well as thinking the words her father said when showing her a book about legendary pokemon 'I'm like Entei huh, well then I am Entei, roar' but no no no, that's NOT enough. Don't give me subtle visual storytelling that I can figure out on my own with little effort, I want Peppa Pig levels of patronising expedition just to make sure I'm following the movie perfectly with no opportunities to think afterwards. Seriously, you're trying way too hard. Like, how is this more 'forced' than the uninspired and ham-fisted 'chosen one' narrative of 2000? You need writing classes desperately.
@glitterfish23 жыл бұрын
@@nobodysixty96 I honestly think that the 3rd movie is one of the LEAST "forced" narratives in a Pokemon movie.
