Idea for you guys: top 10 scenes. Shows and movies. Don’t know if it’s been talked about, if it’s already been done. This is my first video watching and am already sold. For me, it’s an order 66 in Clone Wars with Ahsoka. The buildup for us that knew what was coming…hair raising… The impact and the ripples from that scene. One of the most impactful scenes that I have EVER watched, on any platform.

There are so many S tier arcs in the show, but because of the rules of the list we had to be fair 😅. Siege of Mandalore is one of my favorite Star Wars things period.

I feel like the rule of averages is much less important than the best moments a show provided. Siimply because you don't ever have to watch the arcs you don't like and it doesn't take away from the greatest moments (so long as it's an anthology series like Clone Wars)

When rewatching, yes I totally agree. But it makes for a super boring list. Because the both of us love almost everything Star Wars. It wouldn’t be very fun to just watch us throw everything in S or A tier, so we tried to have some system 😅

You do raise a great point about the anthology nature of TCW and how that the bad doesn’t take away from the good in that case. I could definitely see us raising TCW up a tier or two because of that. Great point!

@@BeyondTheDuneSea That at least eases my concerns of you hating on these beloved shows ✊️😔 With that disclaimer, I understand where you're coming from, knowing how hard it is in practise to make such a ranking objective and consistent. I understand and appreciate your effort, I could say that I still stick to my opinion, but then again ranking shows like the Clone Wars and Rebels with consnistent rules is difficult, as one is an anthology and the other is more serialised I think it's just best to stick to your gut in rankings such as this. Try to explore your feelings about a show deeper, uncover your biases, but if you feel a show is great (or yoy even love it), despite its shortcomings like the weaker episodes in the case of the Clone Wars, there must be something more in play than the logic you're trying to judge it by. Sometimes there's just something that defies our logic, and you should acknowledge that but still go with your gut that's just my opinion, but I appreciate the discussion and the video overall, trying to be objective is always appreciated. and a wholesome discussion even more so in case you're interested I was lead to this videi by seeing a short of you talking about Revenge of the Sith, I absolutely love it, it's my favourite movie of all time so obviously I had to check your list out

Revenge of the Sith is definitely the GOAT. The final act of that movie is a masterpiece.

The reason for why the trailers felt so different from the released film was because of the reshoots and the mess that the film was in under Gareth Edwards. The original director of Rogue One said something a long the lines of he wanted the Battle of Scarif to be the D-Day in the Rebels vs Empire war. I believe he said something about "imagine Saving Private Ryan with a Star Wars filter". I know for sure there are a lot of scenes of Vader on the beaches just mowing down rebels, which was cut for the infamous amazing Hallway Scene we get at the end of the film, which is assumed to be added during reshoots by Tony Gilroy. Tony Gilroy kinda saved Rogue One from what supposedly was a convoluted characterless dark story. I know many believe that Tony came in and ruined what we were going to get, however I and some others see him as the one who saved the film and if you read articles about Rogue One about the reshoots you would see why. I believe I read something that stated there was EVEN LESS character development in the Gareth Edwards version and a lot of the good character stuff that we get was added by Tony Gilroy. The part where Jyn is being broken out of prison, added by Gilroy, Cassians speech to Jyn before leaving for Scarrif, added by Gilroy (this was assumed by one of the actors in the group being someone Gilroy constantly works with and only seems to be in the scenes Gilroy added to the film), and even the first scene of Cassian meeting and killing the informant was added by Gilroy. The scene that shows us the type of character Cassian is and how he is not afraid of making tough choices for the greater good of the rebellion, could have never been in the film.

I remember reading about a lot of that. I don’t mind Tony’s work (I get a bit bothered by some of the wild things he says about Star Wars sometimes 😅). And like we said, that 3rd act is fantastic! But you sorta hammer home our point here that the film feels sorta disjointed and the characters just fall flat. Sure it could’ve been a lot worse under the original Edwards cut, but I think the issue is when you have two directors working toward a vision that’s not totally aligned, you’re never going to get a totally cohesive piece. Me personally, for better or worse, I would’ve preferred we got the directors vision unchanged. And yeah, the movie might’ve been way worse, but I’m in general a fan of artistic cohesion. All that to say, I think Tony did great work on the film! He made my favorite parts of it! But as a whole; the whole film falls a little short. That’s just my opinion!

all of that is dandy and all but i hate andor as a character and a show and will never rewatch that boring snoozefest and will not watch the next season. F tier for me. Unredeemable in terms of IMPORTANT story telling. i just look at it as a waste of screentime. The empire and death star stories already have been told. You can take rogue one and andor out of the picture and nothing changes. WEAK! again ill reiterate, its F tier

You are gana hate this, but men, the Vader Scene on Rogue One alone was more exiting and better than anything from Vader on KENOBI jajajaja (With all respects to Hayden) but it was not his fault, Rebels Vader is better and even Jedi Survivor Vader is better, I love Kenobi because I do, but is a bad show, is badly directed, a lot of makes no sense parts and the fantasy Infantile parts are just forced and unnecessary....

you guys have a really infectious excitement that gives a great energy to these discussions. i disagree with you on tlj (disagreement over tlj: shocker!) but i think your thoughts on it have a lot of merit- one thing i dont think at all is that rian johnson (or the movie itself) is arrogant. tlj is very honest about what it aspires to do and leaves its cards on the table in that sense- with the throne room scene & the yoda scene it is very much speaking to the audience, and rian is definitely deconstructing star wars, but i think that a real reverence for what makes star wars so special really shines through. the reunion between luke and leia, the hyperspace ram, and the epilogue with the force sensitive child: i think theyre all really the reflection of a fan very earnestly adding to what came before.

Thanks so much for your comment! One day, I’m excited to dive into this film in particular. I mentioned it in this video, but there are scenes in that movie that I LOVE. And I think what I find so frustrating about it is that there are moments I adore followed by moments I dispose. It’s emotional whiplash. I’ll respectfully disagree with you about Rian. It’s possible I’m not reading it correctly, but I analyze Star Wars not only narratively, but from a filmmaking point of view as well - why choices are made, and if we can infer the reasonings behind it. And while I’ve never directed a Star Wars film, or anything close, I can relate to the pressure. Rian treats Star Wars like an indie film, which would be great! If it was still an indie film. But the reality is, Star Wars has a legacy of 40 years. A deeply ingrained DNA that demands respect. That doesn’t mean you can’t experiment, or even deconstruct; however, when you watch the BTS documentary on this movie it’s hard to see his direction as anything other than purposely pulling the rug out from under the fans for the sake of it “to be different.” That’s just the way I see it. But again, I so appreciate your comment - and am happy to agree and disagree! Star Wars is fun because we all have our own opinions and takeaways. I’m happy you enjoyed TLJ!

OG trilogy is S-Tier. Empire Strikes Back is objectively the best Star Wars movie. The sequels are F-Tier and Rise Of Skywalker is even below that. Bringing back Palpatine is the pinnacle of laziness and undermines everything that has been achieved before. Also, a fleet of thousands of Star Destroyers each equipped with a planet-decimating superlaser cannon? Come on...

What’s so cool about Star Wars is the fan base is so vast that everyone has their own list. I’m not a huge fan of the word “objective” when talking about art, so I can’t agree there. In my opinion, ESB is probably the best SW film by a production standpoint; however I could make a similar argument for ROTS

You know I saw Rogue 1 three times in the movie theater bc I wasn’t sure I liked it. Hard to judge. The more I watch it the better it gets and how cool it was to see a Star Wars movie that didn’t have a true Jedi in it. That Vader scene at the end maybe the best Vader scene ever and shows how truly a badass and why he was feared across the galaxy. Feel like it should be a B.

The leaked Duel of the Fates screenplay expands and tries to make sense of Last Jedi’s faults and had a shot at making the trilogy more cohesive. They absolutely bottled it and tried to appease everyone and ultimately please very very few. TROS is the worst of the 3 for me. Like why is she a Skywalker now? Its stupid man 😂

@@BeyondTheDuneSea you did bring out one of my favorite points about TPM - it’s possibly the most rewatchable SW film. I saw the original trilogy first as a child, but I had just hit my teens when TPM came out, and I’ve probably seen it 15 or more times. Best lightsaber battle in all of Star Wars (sorry Revenge stans, better spectacle and novelty, maybe not as personal as Revenge, but better), best and most well known scene score outside of the Original Trilogy in Dual of the Fates, the still impressive escape of the pod race, best villain outside of Vader in Darth Maul, and unburdened by the heavy lifting of turning a good character bad (Revenge does not do this well, it stumbles on telling and not showing and probably needed another couple hours of scenes to do this effectively). In fact, Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels.

Men, I just watch The Force Awakens again this weekend mainly because of the tier list show. I again have this great feeling that is awesome movie, It really got me excited when it came out, I was speculating a lot about Rey´s origin, love Poe, the falcon, Kylo and many many things from that story, I actually like the whole parallel with Chapter 4, love that Han Solo Dies in an important way... and don't even get me started on the whole Fin is force sensitive.... In my mind the following episodes where sooooooo amazing and great... So I most say this is one of my favorite star wars movies regardless of the unfortunate main story that followed it.

I agree with a lot of the things they said in the video aside from their takes on where to place Rogue One and Andor on the list compared to other Star Wars projects. Putting Andor and Rogue One in the same tier as Rise of Skywalker is insane. While i understand that many see those as lesser in terms of star wars because they are more grounded and very different from everything else, they are 2 of the best made projects in star wars. Andor is honestly what I wanted out of the Kenobi show, well written, grounded, fantastic star-level acting, with a gripping story going back to the roots of Star Wars focusing on character and a gripping universe which i personally think Andor does perfectly. The fact that Andor is not very Star Warsy is why it feels so refreshing and brings a new feeling to Star Wars for me, one where the jedi and the force arent the main focus but instead intellect, strategy, and showing the PEOPLE of the galaxy. Rogue One was the only film to release by Disney that I sat there and trully felt, "this is star wars". This one may be a hot take, but other thank Rogue One I felt nothing for a single death in Star Wars since Force Awakens. The sequels somehow made me feel NOTHING for the deaths of the OT characters, aside from Han, and if you count anger for how they treated Luke as a character/his death. K-2SO became one of my favorite droids in Star Wars and the fact he was the first to be killed in Rogue One hit, when at the time I had no idea they all would die (even though it made sense they had to). Back to Andor, Luthen is the most compelling character to come to Star Wars since Anakin in the Prequels, the speech he gives about his views on the war and what hes trying to accomplish is beautiful and possibly my favorite scene (in terms of dialogue alone) in Star Wars.

I totally get that! Is Andor better made than ROS? Of course. No question. Just given our own dumb rules about our list which is extremely subjective that’s just how it shook out. It’s crazy to me that Andor and the Clone Wars movie ended up on the same tier! But we wanted to tackle it from a place of honesty and personal bias with this franchise, while also averaging our between both of our opinions and at the end of the day. I kinda liked it, and my cohost hated it, so it has to go in C! But it’s not too serious, and we’re just having fun. And of course, it just our goofy opinions! I love reading your reasons for why it’s YOUR Star Wars. That’s awesome! Just not so much ours, and that’s perfectly okay 😁

I can't lie, I love Rogue One so much. When you also bundle it with Andor its all just great quality story telling that elevates the original movies by filling in details about the universe IMO👌 I can't rank things purely on averages. Some peaks are so high they elavate rhe whole package and how i feel about it to another level... S = Empire, Andor, ROTS, Mando, Hope. A = ROTJ, Clone Wars, Rebels, Rogue One. B = Menace, Ashoka, Tales, AOTC. C = Solo, Kenobi, Boba. D = Last Jedi. F = Force Awakens, Rise.

Respectable list! It seems a lot of people really love Rogue One/Andor and that’s cool!! I personally like it, but it’s just not “my Star Wars” you know? But I love that it’s other people’s. We only did the averages thing to make it more interesting, otherwise everything would’ve been A and S tier, because we just love Star Wars. In reality, my list looks alot like yours if I base it just on what I like, with a few exceptions. I gotta know though; why do you have TFA in F?

@@BeyondTheDuneSea I hear you mate 😊 I really like the sort of grown up Star Wars stuff with morally grey areas, like Kotor 2 and Andor in particular are right up there for me. I totally get it isn't really traditional Star Wars, but I love it. I don't massively dislike the sequels to be honest, but they are really the worst of all the movies. I could write an essay on everything that makes me a bit upset about The Force Awakens, which bleeds into the rest of the trilogy, but I could probably boil it down to a few points: - Written as one movie, not as the intro for a trilogy and a whole new era in Star Wars. Clearly no plan on what sequels would be doing with the story in the context of the saga. - Plot almost ripped straight out of A New Hope and didn't particularly engage me. Leaning on nostalgia, rather than story. JJ Abrams basically did the same thing with Star Trek, but they actually had an in-universe explanation there. - Didn't really add much to the lore in a clear way. Things were obviously added, but the state of the universe was just thrown into war and obviously even the writers didn't know why at the time. - New characters weren't very engaging. Existing characters we do care about were largely uninvolved, given disappointing arcs, or killed off. I'm willing to admit my view on TFA is probably a bit warped by how disjointed the rest of the trilogy was, but I think TFA is also the first failure and I remember vividly the moment I had walking out of the cinema with a lot of those concerns. TLJ clearly wasn't planned and went too far in the opposite direction, but I felt like it did at least engage me a bit with interesting ideas, even if it was also disappointing. Rise Of Skywalker was just a mess, because it had way too much to tie up. I still enjoy the movies, but they just don't sit well with me. Really hoping the love action Filoni stuff builds the universe up to a point where it elevates those movies a bit.

Completely disagree with your perspective of andor and rogue one. I find them embarassingly dissimilar to the originals and more so to the prequels. the show and movie are both very well made with great moments. thats all it was to me. moments. not rewatchable for me. I had no attachments to any character in either product. story lacked in areas. I find them both incredibly boring with generally no purpose in the overall themes and impact of the story star wars is trying to tell you. "Family space opera" It was missing alot of what made the originals and prequels special to me. Personal opinion, dont hate, my tierlist includes all those elements and what i tend to rewatch and not "production value, blah blah" S = ROTS*, ESB, ROTJ A = TPM, AOTC, ANH B = Tales, Clone Wars (03) C = D = Mandolorian, Ahsoka, Clone Wars (08) F = TFA, TLJ, ROS, Andor, Rogue One, Rebels, Kenobi, BOBF, and Solo. I will never rewatch anything in c tier and below. Not true impactful star wars to me and i absolutely love the first 6 movies.

@@marekren9157 interesting... I like different things in Star Wars, if everything was just the same it wouldn't be great. The first 3 movies are different from eachother, the prequels are different from the originals and Clone Wars is dramatically different from everything in good and bad ways in equal measure at times. With Andor and Rogue One you're getting more insight to the empire, you're getting plot holes filled in (why the Death Star was so fragile), you're getting the nitty gritty of what the rebels had to do to win the war, you're getting more grounded characters than shape the wider plot of the universe, and we got genuinely brilliant writing, which is a premium in Star Wars (usually a great overall story, but the writing has always been childish). I don't think I would rule out re-watching anything in Star Wars myself. When they add to the universe it gives something else more value in re-watching.

I can totally respect that opinion. I admit my own subjective bias. I just think there is some dumb fun to be had with that film if you shut your brain off. There's some great performances and great visuals in what is otherwise a pretty mediocre film. Only reason I had it higher than TLJ (even though I would admit thats a better film on paper) is that TLJ just frustrates me to watch.

For me, Andor is completely S tier. Andor is my fave because it actually touches at the root and core of what makes Star Wars.....good vs bad. The common little guy, against the big bad empire. I think it's also a much overdo more mature take on Star Wars. The people that originally saw Star Wars in theater in '77 and the generation or two to follow....are all mature adults. This show was needed for that reason alone. I totally understand the opposite perspective though. It's my fave, but that doesn't mean I think all Star Wars should be that way. It should remain family friendly for the most part, but I do believe there is room for various genres in Star Wars now. 💖

Man, it was crazy hearing Seth's opinion on Andor! Absolutely loved the show but I totally understand your perspective on it and I can honestly agree! The show, like Konnor said, is phenomenal from a technical and storytelling level. The dialogue, the direction, the effects are all just stunning, and (at least in my opinion) have a terrific collection of new, interesting characters to push along a plot that's just as political and nuanced as I would expect from Star Wars. But, like Seth said, its not "Star Wars-y" and *extremely* morally grey, which makes me say that its probably the best Star Wars branded show that Disney has released and I would rewatch it (especially ep 4-6 and 10-12) before other shows, BUT it is not essentially Star Wars because of the themes that its missing. In summary, spectacular show, not the most "Star Wars" show! Love your guys' content and enjoyed the tier list, look forward to watching your other stuff!

Honestly Andor is probably the most worthy S tier for me. It's by far the best written Star Wars product IMO. Star Wars is a universe for me and I actually want more content in different flavours within that universe. I'm not that keen on most of the kids' stuff, but I think parts of Rebels and Clone Wars hit hard as well. The story is perfect. The Empire is genuinely terrifying. The early rebellion is grey and interesting. It's just so damn good.

Yes, I think so. We want to do a list of just clone wars/rebels arcs. But for the purposes of this list we had to average. In my opinion, Clone Wars is the only show with an S tier arc that can sit up there with the greats.

And it also doesn’t work. Showing our characters are desperate. It’s far from a perfect show, but personally I enjoyed it and I enjoyed seeing the arc Obi Wan went on!

See I think it’s absolutely Star Wars. It’s just not for kids. I don’t think there is anything wrong with a SW that leans out of the fantasy and magic of it all. The idea of writing a story that deals with the actual COST of rebellion and standing up against the Empire, which has never been shown to be more oppressive in my opinion ever before this, is fascinating. I can’t get behind anyone saying this is a boring show, which I’ve heard. It was captivating as hell and I never found it to have a dull moment. I’d love more like this in the future.

I remember the hype after TFA, JJ set up so many “mystery boxes” and it was fun film to watch, and “what did it all mean”. Then we got Rogue one , which really nailed the look and feel of Star Wars. To me capturing that look and era aesthetic of ANH solidified that they could do the TV Shows moving forward. And then TLJ happens. I felt sucker punched. I looked like Star Wars and I liked moments in it. But watching this in a packed theater with 300 other fans doesn’t allow you to process or express your feelings about what your watching unfold in theater. I have enjoyed TLJ most when I can pause the film and talk to my wife, about how I disagree with what I see happening in the story or on the screen. This “airing of grievances” allows me to feel better about TLJ , because I feel my wife listens and discusses how I am feeling or emotionally processing that moment moment. Instead of getting bummed and then going online to release those pent up anger and feelings of hatred or dismissal into the nebulous void called the internet. I’ve made my peace with it. Nice list overall.

It’s one of those things that because we’ve started this podcast, TLJ is always “the elephant in the room”. We don’t want to just tear it down and join the mob. That’s not what we’re about. Star Wars has a built in DNA. There is a difference. Let’s take an extreme example. Say Breaking Bad was titled “Breaking Bad: A Star Wars Story”. Everyone would be like “this is an awesome show but it has nothing to do with Star Wars??” It would be a TERRIBLE Star Wars show. Obviously, that’s an incredibly extreme example, but it illustrates the point that a show can be EXCELLENT but also a bad Star Wars show. Andor falls somewhere in the middle, in my opinion. It’s a great show, but it loses some of that integral Star Wars DNA along the way. And if that works for you, that’s great! But, it doesn’t work for everyone, and that’s okay too

We gave our reasonings. It was all about averaging. One of us didn’t like Andor that much, and one of us found TROS to be dumb fun. Both factor in and ultimately they ended up where they did. And not sure where you saw ESB as the last but it ended up as number 3 on the list, in between ROTJ and ANH. “Worst” of the OT is strong language when they’re all in S tier on the list.

It’s just our opinion, dude. It’s not that serious. We’re allowed to not like things for whatever reason we may like it. And it’s cool if you DO like it! You praise us for not devolving into toxicity, yet you open your comment with “grow tf up guys”. This list has dumb arbitrary rules just for fun and it’s not that serious. We put TROS there because there’s some fun stuff in it, even though it is bad. And TLJ is where it’s at because - in our opinion - that movie does a lot to undermine what comes before it.
