Megadeth is my favorite band of all time...I love everything this band has produced, every studio album. As a brazilian I didnt have many opportunities to see them live, last time was in 2016 with Kiko Loureiro, what a concert...Here comes my ranking, a little bit different than yours, especially when it comes to the first era and the most recent with Kiko. 1. Rust In Peace (this and Ziggy Stardust from Bowie are my all time favorite albums) 2. Peace Sells 3. Countdown to Extinction 4. Youthanasia 5. Dystopia 6. Endgame 7. United Abominations 8. So Far, So Good...So What 9. Cryptic Writings (I know it deserves a better position, I really like it, but I think it is not as heavy as I wanted) 10. Killing Is My Business (as you said, killer album, but the original production is not good for me, the most recent remaster is awesome tho) 11. The System Has Failed 12. Thirteen 13. Super Collider 14. Risk (It is not heavy, and it sounds weird a little bit, but some songs I really love, like Wanderlust, Prince of Darkness and Doctor Calling) 15. The World Needs a Hero (long time no listen to any of the tracks)

Very good comment on these albums. My ranking: 1. Rust in Peace - My favorite album, just amazing from the start to finish. 2. PSBWB - Very brutal and angry stuff. 3. Dystopia - I am probably a small minority but I enjoy it very much. The lyrics are well written especially. 4. KIMB - Probably the angriest album I've ever heard. Mustaine had just been kicked out from Metallica. 5. Countdown to Extinction - The first album I ever heard from them. I loved it instantly! 6. SFSGSW - It is not as polished as their two strongest albums but it works well. 7. Endgame - It is one of their heaviest albums and many songs are among their best songs of the 2000's. 8. United Abominations - "Sleepwalker" hit me so hard, I knew I am gonna love it from the first time. 9. The System Has Failed - Their comeback to heavy stuff. I remember buying it the week it was released. 10. Youthanasia - Many killer songs, a couple of those I don't enjoy much - "Black Curtains" sound disappointing. "Reckoning Day" is just a killer opener! 11. Cryptic Writings - A poppy album but I like the melodies. Actually the mellow songs are better on this album than the heavy ones. 12. Risk - Not a bad album. It doesn't sound Megadeth for most fans but there are many good songs. "Prince of Darkness", "Insomnia", "Breadline", "I'll Be There", even "Ecstasy" and "Crush 'Em". 13. Super Collider . I hate it when I first heard it. It sounds now better than then. many good songs. The vocals are perhaps the least good from Mustaine ever. 14. The World Needs a Hero - Many good songs but "Burning Bridges" and "Losing My Senses" are terrible. "Moto Psycho", "Promises", and "Disconnect" are still very good songs. 15. Thirteen - It has few very good songs (Sudden Death is the best) but some of the songs sound recycled ideas. The title song has depth in lyrics but musically it is mediocre.

@@Omar_E11 Uh, no Omar. He didn't. Not personally. It's just that I'm not a big fan of people who tend to be 2 faced. Don't know if you ever read any part of Dave Mustaine's memoir. (It's a great read btw. Whether or not you're a fan, I recommend it highly). I do know from it, & other interviews in other publications, that for a good many years Lars dissed Dave's playing for a long time After he formed Megadeth. But in the late 90s it was, "I really respect Dave as a musician but...". Bear in mind this was around the time they'd already come out with Load. The first Metallica album I tried to like, & couldn't. Even though I'd been a fan of theirs since almost the beginning. & let's face it, the Napster incident of the last decade didn't exactly help.

Don't know any post 2000 albums so I'll trust your words. However, I must be the only one who really likes Cryptic Writings (even metal expert Martin Popoff gives it a so-so). All I can say is you throw the disc on and it sounds great start to finish! Not heavy enough?? Anyway your top 2 are excellent and both very memorable. I remember the first time I heard Peace Sells; guitars were doing battle, coming at you from all angles. Truly a new technical assault of the senses! Mustaine should be remembered for his innovation

Ok, so I guess I'm part of the small minority that actually likes the Risk album. Is it classic thrash Megadeth? No, but that doesn't make it a bad metal/hard rock album in and of itself. I happen to really like Dave's vocals, and this is a strong album in that respect with loads of catchey hooks that I find myself singing along to. And if you listen to the last 2 or 3 albums leading up to this one you can hear the progession that led to Risk. I guess I like this one for the same reason I like Rush's Signals... because it was so different from anything they had done up to that point. Unfortunately (IMHO) Rush continued down that path, where as for Megadeth it was one and done... they got it out of their system and then moved on. If nothing else, I find Risk to me more memorable than the 6 or so albums since then that kinda all sound like the same formula and all run together in my mind. To each his own.

Not their most consistent album, but there's a bunch of quite good songs there, it just doesn't quite sound like a Megadeth album. It would have likely gotten a much better reception had it been released under another moniker.

One of my favorite bands. Though I don't listen to the bottom 5 much, I wouldn't turn them off if they were to come on! Sorry I get a bit long-winded here: 15) Risk (Dave wants to be an alt-rock star. No.) 14) Cryptic Writings (From Wikipedia: "The album features 12 tracks with accessible song structures, specifically aimed for radio airplay." That says it all. Boo. I do sort of like "Trust", though.) 13) Super Collider (It feels like the songs weren't quite there. It's also very commercial.) 12) Endgame (I haven't listened to this quite as much as the others, but it is definatley solid.) 11) United Abominations (It really surprised me to hear Christina Scabbia on this. In a good way.) 10) Thirteen (Ellefson returning kinda gave Mustaine someone he trusts to work with and it shows, IMO) 9) The World Needs a Hero (A really heavy record after the last radio-friendly one. Vic Rattlehead returns in the artwork, too! My only complaint is that it's too long.) 8) System Has Failed ( I was very into this when it came out. "Kick The Chair" and "Of Mice & Men" were classic 'Deth.) 7) Youthanasia (I really enjoy this record. It's a good mix of the heavy and... less heavy... styles they were messing with.) 6) Dystopia (I was surprised how good this was.) 5) So Far, So Good... So What! (This gets crapped on a lot, but I've always really dug it. Maybe because I was 17 when it came out. Just skip the Sex Pistols cover where Dave doesn't bother to get the lyrics right.) 4) Countdown to Extinction (Though I never really liked "Symphony of Destruction" in general this is a great album. Dave was pissed and that's a good thing!) 3) Rust in Peace (Menza & Friedman join the band to kick some new life into what seemed like a dying beast. Not a bad song. "Holy Wars..." is one of my favorites.) 2) Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good! (Though it sounds like it was recorded on a Walkman, this is an amazing album. One of the angriest things I have ever heard. Dave wanted to out-do Metallica in every way and does a damn good job at it!) 1) Peace Sells... but Who's Buying? (When I originally bought this on cassette I would listen to side one over and over. It wasn't until a bit later that I flipped it and realized the second half was even better! "My Last Words" is my favorite song of theirs, hands-down.) Thanks, Pete!

@MosoKaiser4 жыл бұрын
Amen! The 2004 remastes/remixes are horrendous, with perhaps the sole exception of SFSGSW, that one's decent to have alongside the original. Fortunately pre-2004 pressings aren't too hard or too expensive to get, though. Or at least they weren't when I updated my Megadeth collection for the older pressings. KIMB however is pricier if you want an old pressing with "These Boots" present _and_ uncensored. Shame the 2002 remaster has that godawful, unlistenable bleeped version of "Boots", and the 2018 version has an awkward reworked version with original lyrics to appease Lee Hazlewood's estate.

Robert Leese there’s a good remaster of TWNAH and The System Has Failed out recently that’s not a remix but just a remaster and actually makes both albums sound better. The drums have more depth and the guitar has more bite. Listen to Kick the Chair 2019 remaster on KZbin and check it out or Dread and the Fugitive Mind 2019 remaster. Both sound better than the original and weren’t messed with by Mustaine but by a professional mastering engineer.

i started high school in 86 and through to 90 when i graduated i was absolutely submerged in the Thrash Metal scene, it was EVERYTHING to me. but right as i was graduating i was getting really disillusioned with everything, ALL the artists i loved were putting out or had just put out new albums that completely underwhelmed me. and i was sort of falling out with my big group of friends who had ALL flunked that year because they were constantly going out and getting into more and more trouble, and i had sort of spent my senior year at school with none of them around because they were expelled. we are talking like a core group of like 30 people and they were ALL expelled and running around all day and night getting in trouble because i wasnt with them and i was always talking sense into them when they wanted to do stupid crap. it all sort of started with "And Justice For All" and i was just so underwhelmed by the production sound and the material, but then like Nuclear Assault put out "Handle With Care" and it was lame and i didnt like the production sound. and Sacred Reich out out " The American Way" and i didnt like the production or material, and Suicidal Tendencies put out that "Feel Like Shit Deja Vu" album and it sucked. and "Seasons In The Abyss" came out and it was better than the others but still after the previous 3 it underwhelmed me, and the same with Overkill and "The Years Of Decay" it was ok but after "Taking Over" i was underwhelmed and i like a few of the songs but about half of the songs i just ended up finding flat out annoying after awhile. and it all sort of ended with "Rust In Peace". again i did not like the production sound and it just didnt impress me, i already knew who Marty was and he is a very skilled guitarist but to me he has never been a Thrash guitarist and i just didnt care for it i still dont know why it is so beloved by so many. maybe i was just a poseur, maybe i outgrew it, maybe it was just a phase i dont know. but for 4 or 5 years i ONLY listened to Thrash Metal so i am glad it happened, because it gave me the chance to go back and listen to a lot of other things i had ignored and discover a lot of music i really love, there are so many more things out there than just liking one genre or style. for me personally it is always going to be "Peace Sells" and frankly i would trade the entire catalog for just an epic full length version of "Good Mourning".

For me it's SFSGSW. The rawness and chaotic sound is to me what Megadeth was all about back in the day. When Dave spits the line Hook In Mouth at the end of that song, you know he meant it. And throw KIMBABIG in there as a close second.

I guess the top 3 for me depends on my mood. Sometimes it is Rust in Peace, sometime Peace Sells and sometimes Countdown to Extinction. Piece of advice, don't listen to the remasters, especially the CTE one, it was awful. Cryptic Writings ranks a lot higher in my opinion, just because of She-Wolf, such an amazing song.
