I forgot to mention that on the latest Megadeth album, "The Sick, the Dying, and the Dead" (along with others) show songs with a strong blues influence. To me Metallica is the band that you listen to when you're on road trips with your friends and need fun and catchy songs to sing along with. Megadeth has some catchy songs for sure but not as many as Metallica.

Metallica for me, although I love Friedman-era Megadeth. Just going through your channel, and I feel like you would get a lot out of Lovebites. They're a current metal band from Japan (their lyrics are all English, but not always easy to understand with the accent), and their music is like a mashup of all the best classic 80s metal. Some sounds a bit like Metallica or Slayer, some sounds like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest, some sounds like Helloween, and there are plenty of other great influences in there, yet it sounds fresh and all their own. Megadeth always had the more senior / musically talented musicians. A lot more intricate music arrangements and a lot better solos. Riffage wise, Megadeth has a lot more character and diversity there as well. Metallica definitely has more melodic sections and are absolutely more known in the mainstream. Also Metallica are attributed to be the Godfathers of thrash as they really put the genre in the map before anyone else.

I've been a Metallica fan since 1984, then I became more of a Megadeth fan, due to the technicality of the music. Vocal wise James is a better vocalist. Kirk plays what is needed for the song and doesn't care about being known as a shredder.

Listen to Mega's instrumentals "Into the Lungs of Hell" and "Dialectic Chaos." Pure lead guitar gold. But if you're into catchy-easy-listening stuff, maybe Thrash Metal in general is not for you. Metallica is quite the exception when it comes to this genre.

Before watching the video, here’s my take: Depends on what you value more, the ability to produce a given song to a high degree of proficiency, or the ability to write good songs. I don’t think either of these abilities are objectively more valuable, at least from an artistic perspective. Now, both Megadeth and Metallica are not terrible performers (recording counts as performing) and neither are terrible songwriters, but i’d comfortably say that Megadeth is quite a bit better at performing songs and also reasonably comfortable in saying that Metallica has written better songs. Edit: i don’t think Lars is a bad drummer in general. He sounds great on the Black Album, Load, and Reload. I think he’s just a bad thrash drummer.

There is ZERO logic in comparing Metallica x Megadeth in 2024, as they are two different subsets. Metallica are *hard rock/heavy metal* whereas Megadeth are *thrash metal* thus rendering this video redundant. Mustaine hasn't been in Metallica for over 30 years, Metallica haven't written a solid *thrash metal* album since...And Justice For All. When it comes to Death Magnetic, Hardwired...To Self-Destruct, 72 Seasons, those are not pure *thrash metal* it is more *melodic and groove oriented thrash* if you look at The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!, Dystopia, Thirteen, Endgame, United Abominations from Megadeth, they are all pure *thrash metal*. Although Metallica may be more commercially successful and well known, their discography isn't quite as large and they have at times gone many years without making albums. Death Magnetic is poorly produced because it was done by Rick Rubin, and most things he touches goes to crap lol. On lyrics Megadeth has some fun tracks like 'Psychotron" which you enjoy but also deep stuff like 'In My Darkest Hour' & 'Holy Wars'. Their anthems such as 'Wake Up Dead', 'Tornado Of Souls', & 'We'll Be Back' make their songs interesting and not just set out in a simple radio format. I would definitely say they are better and more consistent but can understand some of the good points you made. Great video Caity and looking forward to some more stuff from you in the future

Dave Mustaine is the best musician of them all. Metallica is a real band, with lots of people to contribute. Even Mustaine, when it comes to the first 2 albums and general influence! But Megadeth, since day 1, is pretty much Mustaine's solo project. Dude wrote 90 % of the riffs, lyrics, and song structures. Plus, 50 % of the solos. The man is an absolute contemporary Beethoven. That being said, I do love both bands equally for different reasons. Megadeth is more complex and uses more scales and guitar techniques. But Metallica is more experimental and adventurous, with enigmatic songs like Outlaw Torn and Where the Wild Things Are.

Not saying who is better, but the relevance of songs is not debatable. Metallica wrote some songs, but, not as relevant today, if any of thier songs ever have been. Megadeth, songs are more relevant. Peace Sells, Holy Wars, the whole Destopia album. Metallica has been the same band, 75% of the time. Megadeth has been a revolving door. Lars, that little bitch. When he was pitching like a school girl about Napster, turned me off from Metallica for the most part. I did take my mom to a Megadeth concert back in 2021. Did the upgrade to VIP (seats and all). Dave and the band where so polite to her. Mom passed a year later, but the picture of her with Dave is still hanging on the wall.

I own some Metallica and Megadeth cassettes but I personally never liked either band that much. I don't know if it's because they're popular or something, because I always liked more underground thrash for some reason, and from The Big Four I like only Slayer. I don't like anything from Metallica after Master Of Puppets and maybe 72 seasons too, but it's f*cking annoying to hear Master of Puppets from every Stranger things fan on youtube shorts or instagram. James is a better rhythm guitarist than Dave. Thats no secret..Kirk is a better solo gutairist than Dave. Dave is more of a rhythm guitarist. Kirk solos add emotion and feel to metallica music qhere Dave just tries to play show off and and playsl speed solos. You can hum or sing along to kirks solos where you dont to Daves. Kirk improved Daves solos for Kill'em All and that is factual.

Who cares about stage presense when you have complex music like Megadeth? Anyway, I disagree with Metallica being more melodic. Otherwise, you would have to consider orchestras as less melodic than Metallica. What you are hearing with them is a strong commercial formula which helps the melody in Metallica be memorable. But as having a true melodic structure and comparing them to that then Megadeth wins. I've never heard any parts from Metallica that sound like they could've been played in an orchestra *before* the S&M album. So to me Megadeth gets a point in the melody category because they are the most complex even from the first album. You can't deny Chris Poland's excellent work with this. Since the S&M album is an orchestra just playing Metallica songs it disqualifies them. Metallica, again, has always been about the strong commercial formula and as much as I can't stand Lars, I can't deny that the man is intelligent and knew what people like and expect in a song. Anybody out there who's sold the most albums has that formula memorized in their heads. However, people who truly love musical sophistication don't care about that commercial formula. They love melodic structure, composure, complicated rhythms, chords, tempo changes, non standard tempos beyond just 4/4. Megadeth has much more to offer fans in the category.
