@@mockingariana3 unfortunately Riley was way over her head she had no real choice but to accept the position.. she was never dance captain never had any chance to show leadership before studio head. Shes also very uptight and stressed that's why The relationship with James is good he balances her out. Riley should never have been in this position. She was not good at making tough decisions and since season 1 we saw Riley does not do well under pressure. Hope that makes sense

Little Princess and there was that time where she took Amanda off the dance even though 1. They had an alternate (Cassie) and the purpose of an alternate is to literally step in and step out when needed and 2. I 100% agree that Michelle and Emily were the best studio heads, and that it wasn't all Riley's fault that she was a bad studio head. I also liked hearing your opinions on Lucien and Miss Angela, because it made me think of them differently. Overall, great video, and by the way, I love your shirt!

i think that it was completely Riley's fault she was a bad studio head. Everything that went wrong was her fault she shouldn't have gotten involved with Alfie, she should have read the new regionals rules better, she didn't pay enough attention to the dancers, and she always based her actions on what would make her look good and what she wanted but also wasn't good at making decisions.

Not to mention how much pressure she was put under and doing almost all of it on her own. Yes, she made mistakes, but it wasn't all her fault and I think she learned from it.

Paskalis Glabadanidis and Catherine m you’re both right!🤣😂 Riley should have handled it better and it being her first time running the studio is no excuse for kissing Alfie and not paying close attention to her dancers,but she was stressed out at the time and everybody who knows Riley knows that she can get really stressed out,and that could lead her to making bad decisions. But we can’t forget she also made some good ones like pulling TNS out of the qualifiers because she was afraid if the Geminis won they would take one of her dancers. (Though maybe that was out of her liking of Alfie, because they said they would choose him to dance at their studio?) but I’m pretty sure it was because she don’t want to loose one of her dancers. I respect both of your opinions :)

I just realised in season 6 when Jacquie and Richelle were fighting who should be front and centre. Michelle pulls out the internationals trophy. In season 3 when Riley and Ella ruined the nationals trofey Miss Kate said that they need to give the trofey to the next national champions. If that same rule relies with the international trofey that means the geminis would have that trofey and not tns so did geminis get a different internationals trofey and the international trofey was to be kept? Or did tns keep the trofey for them selves?

Emily. Emily as studio head during S5 was essentially the same as Emily as dance captain in S1 ~ the universe orbited around her but it was to the team’s detriment. Interestingly, the time when she truly shines as a studio head was when she came in in S4 to help out a flaccid Riley. There, her myopic vision actually was exactly what was needed. In S5 & S6, I found it significant that she never owned up about being the one that was totally in the wrong about Richelle’s injury ~ the event that led to Michelle getting fired. So even though she worked well with Michelle, it showed that when push came to shove, Emily was Emily ~ she mellowed, but she underneath still looked out for no.1. That all said, Emily was good as a studio head ~ but really, only in a crisis management situation where her form of drastic intervention was needed or when she worked with Michelle. She wasn’t really cut out to be an empathetic leader of people and Michelle wasn’t really cut out to be a hard-nose with her eye on the important business and organizational aspects, whereas Emily was. That’s why they worked well together. But when pared down to essentials, Emily was more in need of Michelle than vice versa. And Emily was the one that actually came to realize that, hence her meltdown when Michelle was leaving. Michelle. As much of a Michelle person as I am, I don’t think she was a particularly good studio head. She made a great dance captain because she took into account the team as a whole and their contributions individually. But as a studio head, that could be disastrous if not applied correctly. And in the final, with Piper, she didn’t apply that mode correctly and had it not been for Emily’s brand of motivation, it could easily have cost the team. Sometimes, it felt like Emily was trying to craft Michelle in her own image and that was always something I noticed that Michelle pushed against. And Michelle’s penchant for just walking away was both a strength….and a mighty minus point. But the main reason that I don’t think she’d ever be a good studio head was simply this; she wanted to dance and express herself that way. Riley. Without a doubt, the worst studio head that TNS ever had. She was worse than Nick and that is really saying something because he’s been a dead plant as a character ~ but not as a studio head. And I don’t think it’s an excuse for Riley, citing her age, because Michelle was more or less the same sort of age {and, with Amanda, looked after the studio when Riley ran off to England}, Thalia was more or less the same sort of age, Eldon was more or less the same sort of age {and we know that Eldon and James were the same age and we saw Riley teaching James maths in S1 so they must all be the same sort of age} and they all ran studios. After a significantly brilliant S1, Britney Raymond had gone downhill as an actress for S2 and 3 but redeemed herself in the most stunning way possible for the marathon that was S4; her performance as the confused, insecure Riley as studio head was one of the most convincing performances of anyone I’ve seen in a children’s drama, ever. And did Riley ever get it wrong ! It wasn’t entirely a dead loss ~ she did make some good decisions here and there. But the number of poor ones and their ramifications went a long way towards making this second only to S1, in my view. I think that the seeds of Riley as the kind of studio head she was were sown as early as S1. Having been such a strong and important character, we see her slowly begin her descent into uncertainty, even before Beth appeared at the Regionals final. And that insecurity and uncertainty never left Riley. It caused no end of problems in S2, in S3 it bloomed into a nightmare monster plant and by S4 was very much part of her. Riley, a bit like Michelle, was caught in the dilemma of wanting to dance. And so being in charge of everything instead of just having to worry about dance had the effect of piling on the pressure. If one looks at Emily, she did not have that longing to dance any more and even if she had, she couldn’t because of her injury. So she was always more single-minded about running a studio. It was really just an extension of Emily and her need to beat out and subjugate everyone else. Riley wasn’t made of that kind of stuff. Running a studio wasn’t something that she wanted to do, unlike Thalia, Emily or Eldon. Neither was it something she decided she was going to do independently, like Michelle had done. It could have been a great success….or it could have been what it turned out to be !

Oof, gotta agree with the west & daniel scenario, looking back on it, daniel was wayyy too intense. But I’m glad he partially made up for it when he became concerned for richelle. Just a thought...now that Michelle could be leaving, do you think that Emily will run tns on her own, or will a past alumni come back to help? I’m kinda thinking giselle might, seems possible. This is a year late haha, but I honestly think Riley could have been a great studio head. I feel like Miss Kate set her up for failure. According to timeline, Riley would have been 18. No college experience, most likely just graduated, no business experience what so ever. It was extremely sudden. She went from being a dancer to running an entire studio in the matter of days. I think she had the possibility to really be a great studio head and to really run things well. But between her lack of readiness, the whole Alfie situation, and several other small things that could have been prevented had she wanted a few years (like Emily per say) she could have been an outstanding studio head. Especially if her and Emily did it together like Kate and Phoebe. TNS could have gone to the next level.

My Studio Head ranking: -Emily and Michelle as co-studio heads. -Miss Angela. Before you come at me in the replies, Encore's S6 Regionals finals routine was AMAZING. I don't know how she treated her dancers to get those results, but the finishing picture was great. Also, Angela had a reputation for winning Regionals over 7 times. -Lucien. Sure, he was mean, but Elite was the team to beat at both Regionals and Nationals, and they've got there a lot. - Riley. She made loads of bad choices but she was better than Kate (somehow) -Kate.... Okay, okay. She won Internationals... But just think about it. She: •Let Michelle create TNS West She knew about how far Emily and Michelle 's rivalry has got She knew Michelle struggled with leadership on her own. •She chose Riley as Studio Head Riley was underage Riley stressed a lot Riley never showed signs of leadership

Riley had the potential to be a good studio head but she was chucked in the deep end with an offer she felt like she couldn't refuse. Ultimately she wasn't prepared with the skills to be a studio head and then her personal life got in the way of her decision making. She could have been great but the circumstances were REALLY NOT in her favour.

Phoebe I think the writers of the show really missed a trick when it came to Phoebe. Her initial portrayal as a sort of dippy earth mother who was simultaneously a hardline, no-nonsense choreographer that took no prisoners was bordering on genius, as far as I’m concerned. But that picture of Phoebe died almost as soon as it arrived and she basically became irrelevant after those early episodes of S2. They could have done so much with her; think just what dramatic tension could have been added to the show if they had explored both sides of her personality and unpredictability. It could have been so brilliant, never knowing which Phoebe would show up. Not only that, it could also have added tension spice to Miss Kate’s role. As it was, as sisters, they were a damp squib. In the end, Phoebe has to rank really low, if not the bottom, because we barely see her have any impact on the team or show, other than being the conduit by which Tiffany and Stephanie ultimately get axed. Nick. While I think he is one of the lamest characters TNS has ever had, purely in terms of being the studio head, he was actually quite good. He learned as he went along, without, it must be said, much help from Emily. In fact, the only aspects of his character progression {such as it was} that really were good were those areas in which one could see him grappling with trying to balance his role. It’s kind of ironic that he should turn out to be a better studio head than Riley ! But then, life isn’t often/always {take your pick} fair. Lucien. Lucien is an interesting character to rank because on the one hand, he was the hammiest pantomime villain outside of “Animal Farm,” while simultaneously being a superb studio head for Elite. In terms of dances at that initial regionals final, their dances were, in my opinion, superior to that of TNS. I’m not particularly a dance fan, yet, even I was goggle-eyed at some of their routines. He also knew how to get a team functioning as a unit, regardless of who got trampled on in the process. Not very cool, true, but undeniably astute and “go ahead.” And certainly in S1, we see him taking a firm directive hand in the choreographing of Elite’s routines. Also, he was a better studio head than Kate because he had the business side down. Which is why it was so out of character and, in my opinion, poor writing, that he should lose control of the merged Elite/TNS outfit, the way he did. Chris. As a choreographer and 2nd in command, Chris was second to none. No one since has managed to combine his attributes ~ caring about the individual members, damned good dancer, humour, openness to new ideas, ability to change, authoritativeness when needed, knowing when to step back, enabling his young charges to grow….. West. Anyone thinking that West would be Chris incarnate would be sorely disappointed. He was certainly the more Chris-like when compared to Daniel, but even Emily and Elliot would be ! He was, however, really encouraging as a choreographer. It was however, at the cost of all the characteristics that made him West. Although, I think that was a strength because the West of S1 was a one-off that the writers never truly expanded and so he became something of a caricature. Daniel. While he probably had one of the best and most consistent character arcs in the series, in terms of his development from S1 to S6, as an actual choreographer, Daniel had all the charm and ability of a wounded rhinoceros. He actually reverted back to his early S1 persona of perfect lines and technique. It’s interesting that in both instances, it was West, completely the opposite to Daniel in literally every which way, that saved him by providing the necessary balance that enabled him to actually give the team what the team needed. Daniel had tunnel vision as a choreographer. West was his Specsavers.

I agree that we never actually got to see Phoebe choreographing but we never saw Chris choreograph either, him and Kate would leave the dancers to choreograph
