My list is: Fischer, Kasparov, Carlsen, Capablanca, Morphy, Karpov, Tal (i often switch the first 2 positions😆👍)

That's also a great list, I thought about putting morphy on mine too, but I decided against it because of his lack of recorded games and not knowing his real playing strength.😃

@@TempoChess what you say is very true, but I personally include him almost out of duty: he was one of the favorite players of my father, my chess teacher, and with his games analyzed on the wooden board I grew up with him during the 90s learning the basic tactics and development of the pieces, which was innovative for the game of its era. Furthermore, he remains firmly still today the strongest player in terms of points and/or his competition in history: the strongest player in his era, Anderseen, only made a poor impression against Morphy, but in old age Anderseen still had a very respectable record against the first official World Champion, Steinitz. Today's computers rate Morphy as a 2500, but Morphy lived in the mid-1800s, in a world where the absolute best players up until then were at best 2100/2200...

Yeah that's true of course. I think chess player rankings are very subjective. It depends what you value in a player.

Morphy was a good player but since he played basically very weak opponents you simply can't determine how he would fare against modern GMs

Anand and kramink should have been in higher ranking. My boy karpov has to be above Fischer, because Fischer never showed up for the challenge.

I didn't add him because of the lack of recorded games he has. I just feel like we can't really know how good he was .
