Listening to you young fellows giving your opinions about the 10 greatest batsman of all, I have watched all of them batting. So I don't haveto go with nobody opinion or views. Because there got to a criteria and how you select the players, by runs or centuries overall and. It is obvious that you have a player like Chris Gayle, who holds the batting records in all 3 formats above the rest of batsmen them. Because it is only talented and gifted players, can scored two triple hundreds in their test career. The two triple hundreds alone, should put Chris Gayle ahead of the rest of batsmen away from Lara. Also he is the only batsman for the wi team to scored, hundreds in all 3 formats. Although I been hearing some stupid commentators, also some spectators is saying that Chris Gayle have no foot works. That is one of the most silliest arguments I ever heard in my life, because most of the people. Who is talking about cricket, they never scored a 50,100,200,or 300 in their lifetime. So if Chris Gayle was lacking proper footworks,why Viv Richard's, Greenidge, Haynes, Sobers, and the rest of them. Who have all the footworks inthe world, why they didn't do what Chris Gayle did. By scoring two triple hundreds in test cricket to proved how great of a batsman he is and, they have all tried on numerous occasions and failed to do so. I know that you a lot of cyber bullies out there,who does not like to hear the truth what am saying, because they are very biased, not wanting to hear the truth. I was at the Lawrence Rowe cricket festival in Florida Fort Lauderdale and, the same kind of arguments came up. About the best batsman for the wi and I said Chris Gayle, then everyone was saying that he has no footworks and. I said all of you guys are very crazy, because away from Lara.The man have two triple hundreds under his belt, so that alone if anyone of you who knows about cricket. Then you will just admit the truth and stop being biased,he is the only wi batsman with centuries in all 3 formats under his belt and that is a very great achievement. So tell me which other wi batsman to do it,only wi batsman to scored a double hundreds in odi cricket. All of them gotten their chances to do it,so why they didn't do it. You cannot debate the race, after the horses already gone through the gates. Because what they does throughout their career that will never changed at all, until the end of times. It is written in the history books and, that is what counts. One spectator was telling me,that reason why Chris Gayle is making so many runs. Because they take in the boundaries shorter , I asked him if he was taking coccine and. I asked him to tell in the history of cricket, name one of the older players them. Who can hit the ball as far as Chris Gayle, out of the ground. So all what he is saying, it is all nonsense. I watched Viv Richard's batting over the years and, he is overly rated, I been watching him from 1971and he was not impressive to me at all .Because we are in the same age group and, I personally know that during the wi team in. The earlier part of his career, the two best batsman on the team during those days. Was Lawrence Rowe number one and Alvin Kalicharran two, they were by far the better batsmen than Viv Richard's, until the wicb got rid of Rowe and Alvin Kalicharran. Rowe is the only batsman in the world, to scored double hundreds and hundreds on his test debut in 1972 against New Zealand .I watched that test match from start to finish and, in 1974 he scored 302 against England in Barbados 🇧🇧 at Kensington Park, Alvin Kalicharran scored hundreds on debut in 1972 in the 2nd test against New Zealand, Viv Richard's never made his test debut until 1974. A player should be judged by the amount of runs he scored during his international career, also by the amount of centuries he scored. If you not going by stats, it does not make any sense talking with you. Because only stats you can used to determined the better players, also the period of time you played. I know that you are going to have a lot of cyber bullies out there,who is going to be angry. About my comment i don't really cares one bit , I am dealing with facts and stats. So anyone want to challenge me, States your facts with your stats before we can have an reasonable debates . Just like how some people is mixing up average with a player performances, average only achieved by the more not out you have. It helps the batsman to have a very high average, that doesn't say you are the better batsman.Than the batsmen with the lower average, because the other batsmen have more runs towards their names and, that is what really counts, ok.

Chris Gayle's achievements, including his two triple centuries in Tests and his unique record of scoring centuries in all three formats, indeed set him apart as a cricketing legend. His power-hitting and ability to dominate games across formats speak volumes about his talent and impact on the game. While discussions on the greatest batsman can vary based on different criteria and personal views, Gayle's records are a testament to his extraordinary skill and contributions to cricket. Debates about technique, like footwork, often overlook the fact that success in cricket comes in many forms, and Gayle's achievements are undeniable proof of his greatness. Every player brings their own magic to the field, and Gayle's is certainly one for the history books. But in our list Gayle landed at number 8. Where would you rank him in top 10?

As an Englishman I can remember how excited I felt when Gordon Greenidge got out, only to feel the dread as Viv Richards walked in to replace him. The West Indies side around 1980 was probably the best side ever. From Wikipedia the squad was; Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, Faoud Bacchus, Viv Richards (vice captain), Clive Lloyd (captain), Derick Parry, Alvin Kallicharan, Lawrence Rowe, Collis King, Deryck Murray, David Murray, Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Joel Garner, Malcolm Marshall, Colin Croft.

@@thereversescoopUSA I appreciate your perspective on Brian Lara's prowess against spin bowling. However, when it comes to comparing him to Sachin Tendulkar in this regard, there are some compelling reasons why Tendulkar stands out as the greater player against spin. Firstly, Tendulkar's adaptability against all types of spinners over a longer career span is noteworthy. He faced and conquered the likes of Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Anil Kumble, among others, showcasing a consistent ability to read and counter spin bowling in diverse conditions. Secondly, Tendulkar's record against spinners in both Test matches and ODIs is remarkable, reflecting his dominance and skill in this aspect of the game. Now, here's a question to ponder: Can you provide specific instances where Brian Lara consistently dominated top-class spinners across different formats and conditions throughout his career, similar to Tendulkar's achievements?
@thereversescoopUSA8 ай бұрын
Totally agree with you. The argument that fm Tendulkar, being a better player of spin, has some weight. Mostlt because of the conditions that Tendulkar was brought up on and the quality of spin bowling he faced from early on in his career thorough the domestic set up. Granted he didnt play domestic for long before being brought up to the senior team.

Nice list. You guys need to make a Top 20 list of Top WI batsmen of all time because there will always be arguments of people left off the Top 10 list. For example, Alvin Kallicharran should be in the Top 10 list somewhere. His declining health and eyesight caused his Test batting average to dip below 50 but before then he was a terror of a batsman. Also will be arguments as to why players such as Worrell, Baichan, Fredericks, Walcott, Haynes, Rowe etc didn't make the Top 10. Also, IMO, Shiv was a better Test batsman than Gayle. Sure, Gayle had the 2 triple centuries but that was due to his aggressive batting but when it comes down to occupying the crease and batting for days and days, there was none other than Shiv. He was The Wall. When Shiv had to turn up the heat, he had no problem doing so, scoring a 69 ball century one time. Besides Lara, Shiv was known as a closer and the one to call upon when a score needed to be chased down with time running out. Other than that, a very good list though.

When you looked at the wi all times batting line up, you can really see that the majority of people does not understand. The intricacies about cricket, that is why the wi team kept loosing, because there is nobody making any portion of runs. During there careers, because when you looked at the 3 most decorated batsmen of all times. For the wi team, they are cut above the rest of batsmen them, they are into a different class all by themselves. Lara with 22,260,Chanderpaul, 20,988,chris Gayle 19,538,when you looked at the rest of batsmen them to follow, Haynes 16,135,I,V,A,Richard's, 15,261,Greenidge 12,692,Richardson 12,197,Sarwan 11,944,Hooper 11,523,MnSamuels 11,134,Lloyd 9,492,Sobers 8,032. Yes, the numbers do not lie, they just don't tell the whole story. As such, the amount of runs scored cannot be the only basis for the top batsmen..matter of fact, there are instances when holding the wicket is more important than scoring runs. The skill level of the opposing bowlers needs to be taken into consideration. Remember it's the Australians with Lillee and Jeff Thompson who started intimidating with the cut throat bouncers... Then there was Imran Khan of Pakistan. The West Indians bowlers retaliated, and just took it to another level. Tell me if Lara or Gayle faced those quality bowlers? Lawrence Rowe, Greenidge, Viv Richards did, and still made their centuries. Same thing is true as to bowling. Did Ambrose ever face any of the 3 Chapels? Ian, Trevor and Gregg, Zaheér Abbas, Geoff Boycott, Sunil Gavaskar, Crowe, Miranda, Gooch. Holding,Roberts did. I am not downplaying any cricketer. But the level of competition was higher in the 70-90 than 2000-onwards. Truthfully, it's hard to choose a top ten. Still, I do not agree with your premise that scoring the most runs necessarily means you are the best!

While George Headley was undoubtedly a remarkable batsman, the title of the greatest West Indian batsman of all time belongs to Sir Garfield Sobers. Sobers's unparalleled versatility, leadership, and impact on the game set him apart. Despite Headley's impressive batting, Sobers's multifaceted brilliance makes him the superior choice. Can you argue how Headley's batting alone surpasses Sobers's overall contribution as a batsman to West Indian cricket?
@thereversescoopUSA9 ай бұрын
Thanks for your thoughtful comment. Yes, in our opinion, Sobers was the greatest. Headley only played 22 test matches, so it was hard to judge fully with limited stats.

@carlboss81058 ай бұрын
@@mauricewilliams4162 While Viv Richards and Brian Lara were undoubtedly exceptional batsmen in their own right, Sir Garfield Sobers' greatness as a batsman cannot be understated. Sobers' versatility and consistency across all formats of the game set him apart. He possessed a remarkable ability to adapt his batting style to suit the situation, whether it be aggressive stroke play or patient defense. Additionally, Sobers' record-breaking achievements, including being the first batsman to score six sixes in an over in first-class cricket, showcase his extraordinary talent and impact on the game. Moreover, his average of over 57 in Test cricket speaks volumes about his skill and longevity as a batsman. Therefore, while Richards and Lara may have had moments of brilliance, Sobers' overall contribution and impact as a batsman make him stand out as one of the greatest of all time. Now, to pose a challenging question: How would you compare the impact of Sir Donald Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar on the evolution and globalization of cricket, taking into account the socio-economic contexts of their respective eras?
@thereversescoopUSA8 ай бұрын
The comparison between Sir Donald Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar transcends mere statistics, delving into the heart of cricket's evolution and its burgeoning influence globally. Bradman, with his almost mythical average of 99.94, was not just a cricketer; he was a beacon of hope during the interwar period, a time rife with economic hardship and societal upheaval. His unparalleled dominance on the field brought immense joy and pride to a struggling Australia and captured the imagination of cricket fans worldwide. Bradman's era was one where radio broadcasts began bringing the game into homes, making his exploits on the field a shared experience that united people across vast distances. Sachin Tendulkar, on the other hand, emerged as cricket's brightest star in an era defined by rapid globalization and technological advancements. His career spanned over two decades during which the world saw the rise of television and the internet, mediums that catapulted cricket to unprecedented levels of global popularity. Tendulkar, with his masterful batting, not only captured the hearts of a billion Indians but also became an icon across the cricketing world. His presence in the game during its commercial boom, with the advent of Twenty20 cricket and lucrative leagues like the IPL, played a significant role in transforming cricket into a global spectacle, attracting diverse audiences and investments. While Bradman's impact was like a towering lighthouse guiding ships through turbulent waters, symbolizing excellence and resilience in tough times, Tendulkar's influence was akin to the sun in the cricketing universe around which the modern game revolved, driving its expansion and making it a truly global sport. Bradman showed the world the heights individual brilliance could reach, becoming a symbol of excellence. Tendulkar, meanwhile, was a bridge between generations and cultures, embodying the spirit of cricket in a rapidly changing world. Both legends, through their extraordinary careers, not only shaped the way cricket was played and perceived but also mirrored the socio-economic transformations of their times. Bradman's era highlighted the role of sports as a unifying force in the face of adversity, while Tendulkar's time underscored cricket's role in a globalized world, showcasing its ability to transcend borders and bring people together. Their legacies, therefore, are not just etched in the runs they scored but in their significant contributions to the narrative of cricket, making it a richer, more global game.

You cannot compares no other wi captains with Clive Lloyd, he is above all of them. I don't really see any competition with Lloyd here. It would be a big waste of time, Lloyd is the one who turns the wi team into a winning machine. He is the one who developed the wi cricket, I know about the entire career of Sobers. When he took over the captaincy from Frank Worrell in 1967/68 and. Lloyd is the one who turned around the wi cricket, so that captains thing young fellows is undebated. Anyway you can go ahead with it, but nobody come close to Lloyd away from Viv Richard's. I have known about 20 captains it could be more, because some was part time. Because the rightful captain was sick and, they took over for a game or two. Lloyd should get a special honor for developed,the wi cricket to be a world beater. @the reversescoopUSA; The list actually is pretty good. One can argue for a few others such as Walcott etc.. But the one thing that I noticed in the comments is the younger generation not being familiar with the history of West Indies cricket, and the different eras. Actually world cricket in general Sir Garfield Sobers or Sir Viv Richards scoring 100 in their time, no helmets, bigger grounds, better bowlers with few exceptions, was far more challenging and mentally tough than Lara and Gayle etc., scoring 200 or 300 against mediocre bowling attacks on smaller grounds. Don't get me wrong, 300 runs in any match is significant, but one must be objective and look at the class of the opponents. And to those who say Lara is the greatest of all time, remember a man named Sir Donald Bradman.

@Calypsocalover9 ай бұрын
Did you notice the phrase with few exceptions? In any event, the era of cricket in the 60s, 70s,80s, and early 90s was far more challenging and robust than the sissy era that followed and up to now. I stand by my comments. Hence the bowlers and batsmen of those times were far more technical and better @@michaeldavis5619 Actually, the same can be said for most sports.. The sissy generation of the 90s and beyond have the bonus of better science, nutrition etc, but there are "soft' in comparison.
@AlstonBenjamin9 ай бұрын
While I don't disagree with your contention about comparison between eras your argument falls flat on the Bradman point. Bradman did not play the range of teams nor in a range of environments that players after him did. He also did not face the greatest bowling attacks of the West Indies, India or South Africa of the teams that he did play nor did he also ever tour those territories. He never played against New Zealand, Pakistan, Zimbabwe or Sri Lanka. In other words he didn't have to face the grind that is modern cricket. In his time a tour took three months with a series of tour matches to acclimatise something that he didn't have to deal with because he only went to England. Today there are few if any tour matches for many series. He is the best but he wasn't tested like any of the other challengers for greatest were. It is also interesting that he averaged 74.50 against the West Indies in his comfort zone, Australia where the pitches and home Umpires favoured him. The bowlers toiled under unfamiliar conditions with Umpires who were unfavourable to them as they had to clearly get batsmen out and many nicks and lbw's were not given against the batsmen. I wonder what would have happened if he toured would his average have stayed at 99.94 or would it have dropped to the 74.50 or even lower? What if he had to travel around the world to play on pitches that varied from bad to horrible? What if....?

This is not about all round cricket talent. It is a batsmanship. Lara is West Indies best batsman that ever played, not putting and ignoring the batsman’s before and after him. He played most of his career with no support. The other players would fail sometimes miserably and he would have to pretty much carry the team on his back. If you were asking about the best all rounder cricketer west Indies had, then that would go to Sir Sobers without any debate.

It’s difficult to have a problem with your list especially covering such a wide span of time. Having said that,how many of these batsmen were better than Alvin Kallicharan and Lawrence Rowe in their prime? For whatever the reason/s ,those two ( who were contemporaries) never seems to get the credit for their mastery of great batting.
@thereversescoopUSA9 ай бұрын
Alvin Kallicharan and Lawrence Rowe were geniuses with the bat, enchanting fans with their pure class and elegance. While they might not always headline the debate of the 'greatest', their legacy is passed down in the hearts of cricket lovers, and they inspire us to remember that cricket, at its core, is a symphony they helped compose.

There is something that is always said about Lara that probably one person said that many people have copied is the thing about his ability to find the gaps. It's the silliest thing I hear. The other men that have made thousands of runs, were they pinning fielders? Every batsman that made runs found the gaps. It's not something unique to Lara.
@thereversescoopUSA9 ай бұрын
Lara was a master of playing spin bowling, which is the number 1 reason why he scored so many runs. If he wasn't such a great player of spin, he wouldn't have scored all those runs. So, I attribute his success to his ability to spin. Nowadays, we don't see many at that caliber anymore out of West Indies.
@621211219 ай бұрын
His ability to take a ball from anywhere and put it in the gap Brett Lee famously said the difference between sachin and brian is if he bowled the same ball 6 times sachin would put it in the same spot and brian would put in in 6 different spots

No, I did not place the westindies Batters in order,, , some times when you listen to some of the great moments in cricket, for example some of the greatest catches of all time, these. Players come to mind, jimmy Adams , Logie, Hooper, Dujon , Richard Astin , Richie Richardson, top 10 best catches. No West indies players come in that 10 , because the persons who made up these panels r so bias , , so sometimes it is hard to Come to any conclusions , but I agreed that Sobers was a great player, & all rounder aswell ,Ian not old sir, but I used to play school cricket not at the highest level, Plus I read & watch ESPN cricket @ times, iam a bit turned off though, because West indies players not serious, our cricketers used play 50/50 n test cricket at the same and do well in all formats, some of Viv , innings was T 20 , I watched a march on tv with kallicharran without helmet destroyed Dennis Lillee , top class cricket, we need to big up our cricketer more thank God bless u,

Richard's was a mid yoker batsman, the only time he made runs is after Haynes and Greenidge had put up more than 200+ runs. Vivian would then come in and beat up some tired medium pacer bowlers. How did he do against genuine pace attack of Lillee and Thompson in 75/76

The last 3 ( ie 3- 1( are debatable as to where to place them in my view. Ex. Viv came at a time when he got a lot of support from other good batsmen. For Lara , he was the lone batter for the most part taking the fight to some of the best bowlers ever played cricket, Shane Warne was a handful as spinner , so was Muriliteran. Think Brian should be ahead of Viv. I also think.Lawrence Rowe was better than Kallicharan, notwithstanding Yaga Rowe led a rebel team to South Africa.
