Hot take but I think Tool fans who aren’t musicians are even more annoying that Tool fans who are. At least praising them for their musicianship is warranted and yes Maynard does have exceptional lyric writing abilities but if you’re gonna talk my ear off about the Fibonacci sequence and how “deep” they are then you’ve lost me. I used to Meatride so hard for Tool... until their last album. They are great. And their last album is good. But it was like asking me about my grandma while I Meatrode. 10 years of what I considered great Maynard output since their previous album... and then that. I am currently a big-time Megadeth Meatrider. I just don't get people who like thrash metal who don't like Megadeth. I get that Dave's voice is odd... but it just puts the hooks in deeper. Metallica is awesome; have way more iconic songs; I'm going to see them twice this weekend; but Megadeth just FEELS cooler to me in my soul. Can't really explain it. But other Megadeth fans usually just nod ponderingly, and throw up the horns. As you can tell by my avatar/profile logo, I'm a huge 311 fan. Actually, I designed that logo, that they used for one of their summer tours. But! I would not consider myself a 311 Meatrider. I don't gatekeep or try to promote them. I totally get why some people are turned off by them. That's okay.

I remember one time i was talking to this dude about KSE and metalcore songs we like, and then he brought up Unearth. I wasn't really familiar with more than 1 or 2 songs, and that was enough to set this kid off for like a half an hour about how I should know them and influence. He basically tried to make it seem like I was a poser and tried to delegitimize everything I said about KSE because I didn't know every Unearth song, "like, you don't know anything about metacore if you don't listen to ...." Also had this kid tell me I had a stupid opinion and don't know what i'm talking about because I like Mr.Bungle and don't like Death. The butthurt was so visible.

I'm a big early Hatebreed fan (haven't heard anything after the covers album which was sweet), but Megadeth have one album that elevates themselves above them easily, and even above 25 other classic thrash/speed metal bands and that's Rust In Peace...why they didn't continue writing like on that album is why they have SO MANY mid albums before and after that one. Not a meat rider for sure, since I'll only listen to RIP, best thrash album of 1990 and the only amazing thing front to back they've done.

To me, if you're not into thrashing, you're not a metal fan. Polyphia, as they said, is just nerd-core for ppl who like scales and music theory. It's not really music that makes you bang your head against the wall in order to forget your childhood trauma.

Zoomers mad because culturally everything is trash and being recycled. Everything they are experiencing is 2nd 3rd and 4th hand lol. constant movie remakes and terrible music. They dont know about dial up AOL. The internet was just becoming a thing. Spending hours at the mall just to look at cds/dvds/vhs/vinyl . Alice in Chains, Deftones, Tool, Nirvana, 2pac. you got in where you fit in. everything now is forced inclusion. no matter how hard the corporate world trys to make something "pop" nothing sticks. everything now is here for 1 second and on the next. i'll gladly carry water and meat ride for Tool lmao Slipknot made a culture around their band. I went to a hardcore show and they had emo night after. I stayed and had a blast. I wasnt trying to relive anything. The crazy thing was it was a lot of "zoomers" trying to recreate something they never lived. As corny as those songs are there actually good compared to what is coming out now. So in true fashion they are the meat riders hahaha

I went through my "thrash big 4" phase in 2003 in highschool. I still only listen to Metallica from those 4, they were the biggest band then and now for a reason.

Same here. That's actually super on point and accurate. As a lover of European metal music and European culture, I have seen some people so stupidly obsessed with them, they are the European version of Koreaboos/weaboos. I always love appreciating music from all cultures but that stan culture is an absolute clown show.

​@@nickudeschini4812well when you're Riff success rate is nigh 100%. It makes sense. Very very few bands can say they hadn't written a terrible goofy riff. Bolt Thrower has mid riffs at their worst. A band like Hatebreed has their goofy riffs.
