Shorts definitely grew my subscriber count but ultimately killed my channel because KZbin promoted my long form content to those shorts subscribers and because they only watch shorts, they didn’t click those long form videos which told KZbin the videos suck and don’t push them out. Do not make short form content, it’s a channel killer until KZbin fixes it.

KZbin shorts and long form videos are 2 different animals. And ultimately serve different puroroses. Which means shorts isnt meant to bring people to your long form. Choosing the right content does. So no, in my opinion, and from experience, shorts doesn't kill your channel. The lack of channel focus and knowing your audience does.
@samurai_JD55

KZbin recommends your videos (long and short) to your subscribers before promoting them to a larger audience. That’s a fact. So yes when a majority of your audience followed from short form content, it does in fact harm your long form videos. My other channel is all long form content and they perform much much better than this channel that I tested shorts on.

I'm a one man team, I post a video once I feel that it is the best quality I can put out there. Once a week, sometimes 2 weeks. I do history, so it takes a ton of research and the visuals to match the content can be challenging.

The big thing with the shorts one, the main issue is trying to get the random viewer that liked your short to keep coming back, shorts are such a passive viewing style and its so difficult to create a long time viewer with it, its better to split long form and short with 2 seperate channels if you want to do both, but right at the start, i think focusing on 1 and getting really good with 1 of the styles is better than trying to split your time at learning both

The most common advice is to look at viral KZbinrs and copy what they’re doing, I’ve noticed there is so many small creators that just steal the same exact idea, title, and thumbnails all because some fake expert told them so, sure their vids could potentially do well but you don’t learn anything copying other people, I wish this topic was talked about more because it makes KZbin dangerous for people that are actually thinking of new things, shouldn’t even tell people to steal the thinking behind the style bc they completely copy it regardless
@AndrewMycol
@AndrewMycol 4 ай бұрын
That's where alot go wrong is instead of taking inspiration and turning it into something that hasn't been done in their niche to make them stand out, as you say they just copy everything 1-to-1 and wonder why their vids don't do well. It's like if I were a gardening KZbinr and I saw a trend in the tech space like,"I Turned My Basement Into My Dream Gaming Space". I wouldn't then make an exact video like that, but instead I'd do something like,"I Turned My Backyard Into My Dream Garden Space."

As far as frequency of upload goes, you kinda have to trial and error it. I have discovered over the years that daily uploads hurt my channel. 5 videos a week brings less views per video and in total for the month, than 3x a week.

Ive tried different videos - also ive tried to create videos based on topics that were actual and new/trending - what ive come to find out is - that i did not have fun in creating these kind of videos and with that - i did not gain any subscribers, lesser views and less likes than i would get on the videos that i really really enjoy creating! So yeah - always create videos that you enjoy creating from the bottom of your heart - no matter if you do not gain 100k views from the beginning. Your time will come. Stay strong and consistent. ❤

When I first started making shorts, I went a month or two putting one out a day until I found something that works. After I found something that consistently worked, I went to one to two per week. Although they grew my channel, I do kind of despise them as it has taken away from my long form content.

that advice about 'heroes'; I'm a bit old to have heroes like I used to, but seeing like them means that you've 'levelled-up' in a way, expanded your knowledge, found a way to catch people's attention, got a niche that people are interested in, etc. This is a hard thing to find without competition these days. And even without the competition, it's still hard to run with a good idea and execute it well, which is what the final product will be on the viewer's screens.

I can absolutely guarantee that no-one can monetise their channel whilst YT claims it's algorithm uses our metadata to place our content, yet I have the evidence that 1) it totally does not, and 2) if it happens to, YT sometimes absolutely will hide your content when it starts flying. This is something VidIQ most definitely has its eyes closed and fingers in ears to. You just don't want to admit that YT does screw with us, regardless of how many of us are telling you we have the data. After all, it's also VidIQ ranking my metadata, remember? So either that person was right to say VidIQ isn't worth using, or it's YT's algorithm that's dodgy as. You decide.

@@MotoFamMayhem That's vague. I made several points, most of which are based on my personal experience of the data from from own channel, and dealing with VidIQ. I mean, I showed them the evidence that they were marking all my posts pending 'admin approval' on their facebook group, and they still denied doing that too, whilst also claiming they were 'looking into it, but never got back to me. It's not outrageous that people are not happy with them, and won't recommend them. 'Ranked tags' is something else. I see a tag ranked #1 on another video that is exactly in my niche, is exactly suited to my video, yet when I use it VidIQ acts like it doesn't exist. It's all just damn weird.

5:12 needs to be played on repeat! So many small youtubers, and I've done this too, copy what others are doing 1-to-1 and don't change anything about what they do, and then get confused as to why the video/videos don't get many views. If you're gonna copy someone, 1. Don't copy them 1-to-1, and 2. Find a way to take that copy and spin it to make people curious about your "copied version" and 3. Make your copied version have some sort of curioisty gap that makes viewers in your niche say,"This is interesting. I should watch this video."

But when I batch post and let just one go public per day, that video generally does better.

I can tell you one thing, as irony, John Scott, you are very popular and yet so small. Figured I'd hop over to check it out, searched it up. Guess what? The first couple things I see blaring in my face is NHL (Hockey), and this player is John Scott. In fact, you were 3rd down the results. There's actually quite a few videos (with good viewership) about this wild hockey player that shares the same name. However, by tuning the search parameters, I added "channel" to the end of "John Scott" and literally your channel is the first to appear. And guess what? I saw more content from your channel. In fact, I had to scroll quite a bit to find the hockey player, John Scott. So, that's rather interesting. Nothing of value in this comment, except, maybe nothing. I forgot to add. Shorts are definitely a strange space, though I do agree it depends on the content. However, I do think there needs to be a minimum time on shorts to be pushed. I also tested a short-loop, which equated to less than a second. I don't think it even registered as content (idk), it was never pushed. However, I did scale up the time. It does seem that 4 seconds is min time in which it can be pushed. Anything 3 seconds and below don't appear to push out (idk). I'd love to be proven wrong here, but it was a cool test nonetheless.

While I'm a little "tiered out" on all the tier lists, I enjoyed this one. As someone with almost 9,000 subscribers (but still not monetized) I have to agree. To get those watch hours up, I'm going to have to probably make some videos I'm not passionate about. I mainly do author interviews and book reviews (which gets me subscribers who came for a particular author or book) and the people that watch one video don't always come back for the next video :P Need to make some content that appeals to "everyone" (which in BookTube is often things like Top Ten lists - which I have ZERO interest in doing :D ).

Tags (not hashtags) are for redirects. I do reviews so if I had a "Dyson Vacuum" that I reviewed but I know the word "review" is occasionally misspelled as "reveiw" so I can put in "Dyson Reveiw" and my video would show up in those results. Tags work differently and for different reason than hashtags. Putting a string of words in the tags like "viral growth strategy" would make it pop up (albeit pretty low) in the results when someone searches for "viral growth strategy", if I put that tag in the same video about a Dyson Vacuum even if the video has nothing to do with that. Tags can be used in a misleading way, which sucks, but when done properly for commonly misspelled words can actually make a difference. Anyway, that's my input based on my experience with misspelled searches.

This video attempts to dissect bad KZbin advice but ends up being a confusing mess of contradictory statements. It claims to expose harmful tips but then categorizes most advice as "risky" or having a "silver lining," ultimately failing to provide clear guidance. The video criticizes advice like posting daily and using excessive hashtags, which are indeed questionable strategies for long-form content. However, it contradicts itself by suggesting that focusing on the algorithm and "optimizing" content for views might be necessary for success, contradicting the earlier emphasis on passion and enjoyment. Furthermore, the video delves into the debate around KZbin Shorts but offers no concrete conclusions, leaving viewers with vague statements like "it depends" and "it's risky." The video's attempt to humorously mock advice like "nobody cares about you" and the promise of overnight success adds to the confusion rather than providing valuable insights. Ultimately, the video fails to deliver on its title's promise, leaving viewers with more questions than answers and a sense of uncertainty about what constitutes good or bad KZbin advice.

I sometimes leave links in music videos that might interest people. Someone was interested but I don't know if it's good. But I don't send links to teachers or 90 year old people.

Interesante que sea un youtuber pequeño cuando supuestamente hace contenido aconsejando a los que verdaderamente somos pequeños para crecer, no aplica sus propios consejos en su canal ? Curioso... 🤔

If you are just creating content to earn money and it is not going the way you thought it would you will end up losing enthusiasm and just throwing any old content your viewers way trying to improve your views and subs. This will only result in your subs getting disinterested and your subs will start to dwindle. Like everybody is saying enjoy what you are doing and your channel will grow. Keep persevering and give your audience quality rather than quantity.

My channel is about ghost hunting and I’m just making my videos about that because I saw him up with it when I was watching ghost aventures I wanted to be one of them and show everybody in the world. What’s out there?

i can take as much as i want to edit a video, and i can still have fun even if i sacrifice 1.5 gigs and 2 days, i would still laugh at my own fails and fix them joyfully.
