I won a couple of military major pistol matches and was a pistol coach and AMU competitor. We use to test our pistols using the ransom rest. It didn’t take us long to realize we had to weld a platform for the rest to be mounted to and the whole thing had to be set and bolted to a concrete pad. When making the platform structure we used a flat piece of thick steel welded on a thick rectangular steel post filled it with concrete. Then welded on a thick piece of steel to mount the ransom rest on. On both plates you should drill your mounting holes before welding them onto the post so you can drill them using a drill press. This was the only way we got meaningful results from the 1911’s.

A mildly-modified Pointman-9 is the main firearm in my competition collection. So, I HAD to watch this one. You can bet I will watch every one of these.

Awesome grandad let me know what you think. There are many more to come though I am trying to get a steel table built to try and squeeze out as much performance as I can. Nice job on the Pointman-9.

ThankYOU! For the comradery (sp?). Bring it with the 1911s . Great great great idea ! There is not a handgun I’d rather shoot . I hope a Wilson , Nighthawk or full custom like Volkmann show up for you . For factory guns, I would have guessed DW to be most accurate . Congrats on 30K!

I'm a big fan of the 1911 and own several of the pistols from various brands. My next planned purchases are a Colt Gold Cup National Match and a CZ457 MTR .22LR. I'm really looking forward to this series of tests. Thanks for what you do!

OOOOH Marvin very nice on both occasions. I hope to see that CZ457 in one of the challenges buddy.

@@Dayattherange I'll have to shoot better than I did today before that happens 🙄 I ran 140 rounds through my Springfield 2020 .22LR and did not meet my own expectations. Granted, part of that was re-zeroing the scope and also involved a change in ammo after the first 40 rounds, but I didn't manage better than a 1 inch 5 shot group at all. I actually shot the Captain America target and the score was miserable. 37 points and no stars. 🤢If Fedex ever delivers my order of Eley Club maybe I can do better than I did with the CCI standard today. I had several flyers.

Wish I could get my Kimber Custom (early production, S/N 18XXX) to ya' to test. With 230 grain Federal match hardball it keeps all shots touching at 25 yards from a machine rest. Groups with 230 grain Hydra Shoks are right at an inch. Sometimes it's a little humbling shooting it since I know any misses are entirely the fault of the loose nut behind the trigger...😆

@noahmercy-mann4323 yeah those pistols scare me because I can't make excuses then. Lol

Try a REALLY new Gold Cup National Match. You might be pretty impressed.

I get a 2.3” group at 50 yards with my 1950 Colt 1911

Nice that is one thing I want to is get better at shooting longer distances with handguns. That's amazing shooting.
