Rant on 5D classic: it is not just the color science

I am sharing my experience with the 5D classic. Why is this camera special? Is it special? It is a long process of exploration, of wonder and disappointment, and this sharing peels off one layer.

The 5D is one of the best cameras ever made and it has everything you need. The 20D is a superb camera and you can get it more or less for free. The 30D has the exact same sensor and processor as the 20D but adds a bigger LCD screen, spot metering and 1/3 stop increments. I bought both in mint condition for about 40€ each. For 98% of your photography, you don't need anything else.

Which do you prefer of the two, the 20D or the 30D?

@@ShutterNChill Definitely the 30D. They are about the same price used, but the 30D has a much better screen, and RGB histograms, which will make your life easier.

In my experience with several different cameras, and also my roommates nikon collection.. the 5D is the easiest camera to operate with gloves on. Back button focus on the D610 is more annoying position than the 5D. The pro nikon bodies like the D200 are really quite good, though. And the colors of the D200 are also legendary, much like the D700. They probably used similar color filters back then - or something. Thing to note is that i have a 6D for more demanding photography and it's also a very good looking camera and people have said it's more 5D classic looking than the rest of the 5D series.

Thank you! I think those generation sensors were geared towards color and tone, and as newer sensors came out the focus shifted towards reducing noise at all cost, including color...

I love auto iso. For a long time I considered between 5D and 6D. Based on the reviews on how similar(!) the 6d files are compared to the 5d I finally decided to go for the 6d. No regrets. Thx

For outside photography under daylight I really do find that auto ISO would help a lot. Especially here, we have super strong sunlight and it often changes a lot even in a second as clouds move quite fast and fly low. Because of that, and the low light ISO I always second guess myself whether the 6D mk I would have been a better choice...

I guess I'll make the same decision for the same reason. Although the very weak aa filter from the 5D is quite tempting. The details are amazing. On the other hand, do one really see that if not pixel peeping? I see myself buying the 6D first and the 5D some day in the future. There are also the X-Pro 1's and D200's begging to get bought. 😁 Such nice cameras for small money out there. Happy snapping! 🙏

@@Nearest_Neighbor For me the size of the camera had a lot to say since I hike for many hours. In addition to the previously mentioned auto ISO. You really can't go wrong if the choice is between these two cameras. Maybe just leave it to "fate" and go for the first and best offer that comes along. I only paid around 250usd in mint condition for mine😎 Good luck

@@RohamBroccoli Nice catch and thanks! Yes the size definitely is a plus in my opinion too. Some like the beefier body of the 5 but it's also quite a bit heavier. Which lens(es) are you using?
