ALSO I forgot to mention - the manager did try to blame the mold on us. She said that we needed to change the air filter more often to prevent this lol WHAT?! We changed it every month! They also didn’t accommodate us in any way for the 3 days we had to leave our apartment for them to replace the air conditioner. No money off rent, no hotel stay. Nothing. Just said leave and come back in 3 days. What a nightmare. I’m so glad I’m out of there.

When we first moved to this town we went to three apartment complexes--I loved the last one. My husband said he wanted to look at another one (thankfully) before we signed a lease and we eventually went for that fourth apartment. I found out months later that the third apartment complex had the highest number of registered sex offenders. I was so relieved, my husband works 12 hours shifts that rotate from morning to night shifts and I cannot imagine finding out that info and being alone at night. That experience made me realize how much more I need to research next time we move.

I've lived in my apartment for 3 years and haven't had any problems until they got new management and started making "improvements". My boyfriend and I went to re-sign the lease for the 3rd time and the girl at the office was super nice until she realized she wouldn't make commission off us and was very rude after the lease was printed up, this was my first interaction with her and not even the worst. About 6 months ago they started work on the water lines, water was turned off from 10 am- 4pm every day for an entire month then from 9am to 5pm for 2 weeks after that, sometimes they wouldn't give us notice because "it's only 15 minutes" 🙄 (from front office girl). It takes 10-15 minutes for the water to heat up, I have to boil water to wash dishes and wait outside of the shower until the water is at least lukewarm to get in. They were doing apartment inspections but didn't specify when it would be and we had a family member staying with us who has dementia so we really needed them to tell us so it didn't happen when he was here, they refused to inform us. My upstairs neighbors washing was leaking or there was a bursted pipe so I called in an emergency work order and front office girl came to my apartment saying ~could~ be my fault (it wasn't) and she was angry that it was called as an emergency. We have a leak in the bathroom they've come by to fix at least 8 times, it's in the shower so eventually when the water heats up we get a lovely trickle of ice cold water down our backs. The lightning in the kitchen is constantly going out and the garbage disposal has been replaced 3 times. Only half of the electrical outlets work but they're ones that go behind furniture. I looked up my complex on Google and it has a rating of 1.9, the other residents have issues with front office girl and maintenance staff not correctly fixing issues. My lease is up in July, I'm tempted to break my lease because my dad offered to let us move into his house.

@Amanda Charlebois I forgot to mention the bug problem, why am I paying for pest control when I have to buy my own insecticide? I live in Texas and we get giant tree roaches (because everything is bigger in Texas amirite?). They're having a "resident appreciation week" which is an insult given that they can't fix a basic need like hot water but they can buy a bunch of little ceasers pizza. It's so strange that I've lived here for so long and only started having these problems in the last 6 or so months, I've lived in cheaper apartments before and they've never been this awful.

This is so frustrating to hear. I work for an apartment complex, and at first I thought this was going to be annoying to watch Because a lot of renter's complain about the dumbest shit that they don't realize is normal or common or an easy fix. After watching this I'm just in shock. If something breaks like a washing machine , we just replace it... It literally cost more to replace the parts then to just replace the appliance. Also when there's a leak... We open the ceiling..... Then fix the source of the leak.... But leave the ceiling open for 2-3 days so it actually dries out and doesn't cause mold. What a shit complex. Some people just shouldn't work at an apartment complex.

xoTiffany where is the mold? And what is the source? Sometimes mold can just appear and sometimes it's just surface mold and can easily be bleached and wiped away but if it's constant then there's obviously an issue with moisture and possible poor/no ventilation. Some states/counties have laws to protect you but some dont (like mine which is so strange to me) thankfully my complex doesn't mess around with mold and just corrects the issues... But I know of friends who live in other complexes where their whole bathroom is covered in mold and the complex refuses to do anything and the town basically told them there's nothing they can do but Sue them in small claims court or something stupid like that.

Dude was this my old apartment complex? It was an absolute mess. I'm deaf and I had maintenance watching me sleep from the bathroom because I didnt hear them walk in. I literally will never live on my own and I never want to again. The gate was always broken, the toilet never worked, we had cockroaches no matter how clean we were. The closet door never closed so we kept it open 24/7. The oven stopped working 2 months after we moved in and the A/C never worked. I feel this entire video

Same thing happened to my boyfriend and I. There was a fire in the apartment above us three months after we moved in. The water damage was severe, sagging ceilings, wet carpets and so much black mold it was insane. We both got sick from the mold and my cat and dog developed skin problems. We fought for the whole year to be treated for the mold and to get out of the lease. They finally let us out only 2 WEEKS before our lease was up. They are now trying to charge us for the carpet and water damage a whole year after we moved out.

I realized how much us Leos are so protective of our families. It is like our inner lioness comes out and we are literally ready to go off on someone. I am so happy to have been introduced to you by Kathleen's videos. I love these rant videos because it's like seeing me when I go off on something that pisses me off. Love you Jessi! I would love to meet you someday! I am going vegan and so excited to try your recipe videos.

I had a similar experience when me and my boyfriend rushed into a place to move out of his moms house when we came to Ohio. It was hell. Several leaks, black mold, the floors creaked like hell, my dishwasher would always fill up with gross water and walls were paper thin with ratchet ass neighbors. Maintenance sucked, it was a nightmare and we were overpaying too. I called the building department on them so many times, they decided to let me out my lease like a few weeks early. The next apartment, I researched like crazy and had so many anxiety but I’m so happy now and relieved that I look bad at that place and never have to go back.

I relate so hard. One of the office ladies (the manager actually) at my apartment is SO rude. I paid $200 for a pet deposit and $250 for a pet fee and they wouldn’t let me pay rent my first month because they had no record of the payment. The manager LOST $450 and almost made me pay it again, until I came back in with receipts from the bank of my cashiers check. She didn’t give my roommate a receipt from those payments because she told her that we wouldn’t need them. We had the same issues you did with valet trash, where they won’t take it and claim that it’s too heavy when it’s not. I’m a 120 pound girl and I can carry it with ease. You’re telling me huge, strong men who do this for a living can’t??? They had people come to test our fire alarms, and they only notified us a few hours before. Both my roommate and I had to work and couldn’t be home, so they came in without anyone being home. The parking is ATROCIOUS. You can pay extra for covered spots, which you should do because there’s literally only about 80 regular spots. That is nowhere near enough for the number of residents. Also I did the math, there’s probably around 160 covered spots. There’s also one tiny area for visitor parking but it’s on the complete opposite side of where I live so I have to risk getting towed and just park at the leasing office half the time. The dog poop trash cans are allllll in the middle of a grassy area that gets excessively muddy, not only when it rains, but when they activate the sprinklers. OH and when we were talking to the manager about that whole pet fee/deposit situation, she completely dismissed us and actually LEFT because her son was sick. It was the first of the month and nobody else could help us out with finances other than her, and if we had waited until the next day to get it all figured out, we would have gotten late fees. When we showed her our receipts from the bank several hours later, after she picked her son up from school, she literally rolled her eyes at me as we were explaining that these were copies from the bank proving we had at the very least, taken money out for those fees. Yeah, she rolled her eyes and said “okay, okay, OKAY!” snapping on the final “okay.” I know this is super long and nobody asked for it, but I still have 8 months on this lease and don’t want to leave a Yelp review until we’ve moved out. It’s just been super frustrating lol.

When my husband and I moved to California we were fortunate enough to have a month of housing through his company. I did so much research before we even moved, and saw a ton of places before deciding to stay where we were housed. Researching is so important, especially considering the amount of money we pay to live in these places.

Giiirrrrlll! This sounds like every place ever in the town I live in - Carbondale IL. My bf’s house is horrible, the heat doesn’t work (they’ve called to get it fixed more than 3 times, a person has come once and it’s still broken) their bathroom sink was DETACHED FROM THE DAMN WALL and they had to call over 5 times for someone to come fix it, both of their toilets (1 full bath, 1 half bath) only work 40% of the time. Even with all that said, it’s hard for them to even be able to get a hold of anyone from the rental office. With my apt, I pay rent and only trash is included. There is no insulation so (for a one bedroom - studio sized apt) my electric is insane! I have mice and maintenance told me to just get mouse traps... like okay but they’re just going to keep coming if you don’t find the source from how they’re getting in, I’ve always had a problem with roaches, my water pressure is horrible and it finally went out - they came to fix it but didn’t fix the shower head. I couldn’t shower for 4 days! My refrigerator was broken the day after I moved in, took them over 2 weeks to get me a new one. My door didn’t fit in the frame so you could literally see outside through the crack. They fixed it with a damn weather strip 🙄 it stuck to the door and they had to come out 2 more times to fix it and now if it’s cold and icy, my door sticks to the weather strip and I have to pull super hard on the door knob to even get the latch undone and it can take me several tries before I can and after a while of doing that, my door knob started to come off 🙄 not to mention my mail box has broken twice. I feel you girl, definitely gotta do your research before moving into a place
