If you have been a fan for 40 years, it's imaginable that you get tired of the Run to the Hills, Numbers of the Beasts and the Hallowed be thy names......But can you imagine being 12 in 2020 and discovering Iron Maiden for the first time? You crave to hear those classics live. And somehow that's why Iron Maiden keeps on going strong, there is always a new group of young fans. Just like with AC/DC, many teens (12 to 15) go through a Back in Black phase.

I've been a Maiden fan since 1981, and finally I was able to see them live in Brooklyn. Janick gives Maiden even more depth by enriching the melody when Murray and Smith are soloing. Maiden is on top of my list of favorite bands. They are the complete package-- musicality, intelligence, energy and image. Maiden's album artwork is top notch, while their lyrics force you to think.

Hey Guys, I’d seen Maiden for the first time in 1993 on the “ Fear of the dark tour” at the Kings Hall in Belfast, it was Northern Ireland’s biggest concert venue at the time 12,000 people sold out.there was only a handful of dates left on the schedule before Bruce was leaving to go solo hell of a show 👏🏻 I seen them again less than 3 years later again in Belfast at a basketball gymnasium called the Maysfield leisure center on the X Factor tour , they played to 300 people 😢. I had been listening to Maiden since a kid & knew all their songs & albums but only could afford it & be old enough to see them for the first time at age 19. The show with Blaze in that gymnasium was amazing Steve Harris, Janick, Dave & Nicko played that night as if they where headlining Dontington Monsters of Rock. I was in the front row just singing along rocking out pinching myself. The reason why I go back to this is, the fans who just like the Bruce era are not true Maiden fans. Steve Harris is Iron Maiden. I moved to the USA in 1997 & have seen Maiden at least twice on every tour since Brave new world🤗 The band was correct in keeping Janick he was vital when Adrian Smith left & when Adrian came back he knew he had to step up & keep sharp because he knew that he was replaceable. Bruce wouldn’t have comeback unless Adrian was in that was the deal. Anyhow I could talk Maiden all day excuse my punctuation. Up the Irons! Martin ☘️

Iron Maiden is and has been my all time favorite band for over thirty years. The first song I ever heard was Hallowed Be Thy Name back in the mid 80's. I was around 8 years old , and I even knew then that there was something very special about them. I love all their eras big time. The Paul Dianno era, the first Bruce Dickinson era , the Blaze Bayley era, and the second Bruce Dickinson era are all PHENOMENAL to me. They have amazing songwriters and amazing musicians in the band. I have been to hundreds of concerts in the last 25 years, and Iron Maiden in my opinion is the greatest live band ever. No other band even comes close to how amazing Iron Maiden are for me. I have enjoyed every concert that I been to for Iron Maiden, but the most recent tour Legacy Of The Beast was the best show I have been to so far. The current lineup is amazing, and I love that they have three lead guitar players in the band. Janick Gers has done an amazing job in the thirty years that he has been with the band. He helped cowrite many great songs throughout the years, and he has earned his spot in the band.

Four types of Iron Maiden fans... 1. The Paul Di'anno era fans. They love the first two albums. Bruce Dickinson is just an opera singer and ruined the classic sound. 2. The 80's era fans. Everything before 1988 were masterpieces. Everything after is shit. 3. Lovers of everything maiden has done. Everything from 1980 - present is perfect in every way. 4. Honest maiden fans. No bias, they like what they like weather it was modern or old, no matter who the singer was.

I'm a number 4. I like some songs better than others - no matter who the singer is. I will say that Adrian Smith is the best songwriter in the band, but I am glad to hear songs from the rest of the band. Steve Harris controls the studio for most songs. I like the Book of Souls, but having so many long songs from one album live isn't as good as mixing in shorter songs. I do like that Maiden plays olds stuff every other tour with new stuff on the odd tour. Def Leppard plays almost the same setlist in 2019 as they did in 1999. They could learn a lot from Iron Maiden if they want to remain current.

I'm a bit of a wimpy part time metal fan and recently bought SSOASS as my first IM album. I was somewhat taken aback, albeit it pleasantly, by how melodic, tuneful, hooky and (dare I say it, but I mean it in a good way) mainstream they sounded compared to some of the subsequent extreme HM sub-genres, but whilst still delivering those wonderful crunchy riffs and incisive leads. It's a great album irrespective of genre. What I also loved about it was the total fantasy content, non of that (groan) toe curling cock rock stuff about booze, chicks and fast cars.
@georghagglund93387 жыл бұрын
Many of the people who think "They haven't done much right since Seventh Son.." seem to be people who haven't really matured musically since. It's the same regardring most bands. Genesis after Peter Gabriel. Judas Priest after Painkiller. Aerosmith after Rocks. Michael Schenker Group after mid 80's. Pink Floyd after The Wall. Van Halen after 1984. Deep Purple after 1975 or Perfect Strangers. The list goes on and it's the exact same mentality all over. Now I am younger and didn't experience the music as it was new. I have discovered it much later. I do understand that band changes, sounds changes, they go aftecr something else. But if feels to me like many just stopped listening to new music or judge everything very hard.. If it doesn't sound like their best work after one listen it sucks, a sellout album, corprate garbage, they lost it and whatever. Iron Maiden is still huge and does still record. Sure. They aren't as active as some bands but they are active enough. They have plenty music. We don't need another Iron Maiden album each year. Once in a while is good enough. I don't blame people for having favorite eras, favorite albums, songs or members but to find nothing good after Seventh Son.. Seems almost a bit silly to me. Afraid to Shoot Strangers? Fear of the Dark? Blood Brothers? Rainmaker? Dance of Death? When The Wild Wind Blows? The early years wasn't perfect either. I prefer these songs to more than a couple of the pre Seventh Son albums. I do think the overly fanboy approach with "everything they ever did was the best song ever" is a bit odd being cricial isn't band.. But something you just gotta try to appreciate what is instead of what was.

Benner with every day people like me, you don’t get to see iron maiden time and time and time again. In ny opinion, it's not just the length of the songs. A band that remains the same doesn't take the opportunity for growth and ends up an oldies act. Maiden has always been more than that. They've taken chances on radically differing song structures and arrangements. They've explored a wide variety of subjects and styles. Each member is a wildly skilled craftsman; able to explore new territory each time out. Maiden has managed to balance tradition with an ongoing quest for something fresh, alive and different. I am in the camp that doesn’t really listen to anything after Seventh Son. Some great songs, but overall not great. For me it isn’t the length of the songs or the “epic” feel they are going for, it is the lack of blistering guitar from the beginning of the song until the end. The modern stuff has great guitar in places, but it’s mostly a galloping rhythmic feel while Bruce tells a story for eight minutes. In the old days, even if you removed the vocal track you had a great piece of music. Modern stuff just sounds monotonous to me.

I would also put Black Sabbath up there as a third king, but since they seem to have retired, I would place Priest and Maiden as the reigning HM champions. Also, lately Priest has resurrected many of the classic old songs and offered, in my opinion, more surprising setlists and very interesting live shows to even hardcore fans.

Playing it safe set lists are a really big problem for most artists. I know the bigger shows can't really just throw in songs, but they could have a few spots where it's a different choice each night or something. And when bands get into "legacy act" status, it's even worse. 20-40 years of the same 20 songs, yikes!

Blaze is a great singer and I liked the studio albums with him but not live. Then again maybe he was great live with Wolfsbane. I still prefer Di'anno's voice on Killers rather than Bruce because he fits the scene on those albums. If you know what I mean.

At 61 a lot of the bands that I grew up with are fading. It's understandable because life happens players get older, their are families, change of interest, lost of members etc..... For me Iron Maiden has been able to mature but maintain their quality of musician ship. At their age they are not going to be the same guys as decades ago. Time changes for all of us. Life changes for all of us and I don't expect the band to pretend that they are 20 year old's. The band seems to genuinely still enjoy playing with each other and they put a lot of effort in the writing and performing process without just resting on a popular style from the past or their Name and past success.

In 2005 they didn't play Fear of the Dark and that worked out just fine. Don't get me wrong, I love that song. But they don't mix it up that well I think. Take the 2005 tour and we were promised rare songs from only the 4 first albums.. And what did we get? The same fucking songs they ALWAYS plays with an exception of adding Murders in the Rue Morgue, Another Life, Remember Tomorrow and Drifter. I mean come on, we didn't even get Killers! In 2008 the same thing with rare songs from the Powerslave and Somewhere in Time Era. What did we get? Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Powerslave and... Heaven Can Wait? We got songs we've heard before and that are featured on some official live album somewhere. At least we got Moonchild which is one of my favorites. In 2013 they finally made a great set list where we got rare songs such as Seventh Son, The Prisoner and they even threw in Afraid To Shoot Strangers. The rest where a bunch of classics they always play but it mixed in well together with a classic epic stage show. I tell you, I cried during Seventh Son - it was that fucking awesome! It's hard to post a comment on this topic because I think it's got material for writing an essay on, so someone should do it!

I find both Dance Of Death and Matter Of Life And Death to be boring and lackluster. Brave New World is excellent. Final Frontier isn't bad and Book Of Souls is pretty good. I'm actually a big fan of the Blaze Bayley era especially The X-Factor album. It definitely needed tuning down to his voice.

Maiden recycle the same 20% of their catalogue live, always great shows but they leave out so many other tracks that would go down well & not hard for them to perform, but they just won't do it

They do entire tours where they play the new album from front to back. Only 5 hits on those tours for encore

Maybe people should stop complaining about the setlists and just be greatful that Maiden are still producing new material and touring the world. I mean wth are you complaining about? Just enjoy the show!

Unfortunately I only saw Iron Maiden in concert once and they were awesome. Only Metallica could compete with them in concert of all bands I have seen. I saw them with what was supposed to be Guns and Roses but ended up being LA Guns in San Diego. LA guns was the loudest band I've ever seen but they sucked or maybe it was that their equipment was crappy. Iron Maiden was so awesome. I loved that concert so much even though I had to survive LA Guns before getting to Maiden.

The 4 albums after 7th son are weak. The drop in quality is huge. The rest is gold. The last 5 are a huge step up from that weak soft middle part of their career.

You could piece together I album out of No Prayer and Fear of the Dark and it would hold up, IMO. I absolutely love Mother Russia and Run Silent Run Deep. I'm a bass player, two of my faves to play along with. Esp. Mother Russia.

Agreed. Those albums aren't horrible, but also are no where near as good as what Maiden can do. When Bruce and Adrian came back, and revitalized the band, it was amazing how great BNW and DOD were, I wasn't and still aren't a fan of the next two. Some great songs on them, but the rest just leaves me flat. But they killed it with Book of Souls. And you know what, that is all right too. Every album cannot be exceptional. It can't be everything to every fan. The band is going to do, what they want to do. I would never want them to try and change anything to please 'the fans'. Just be true to themselves and keep making music.

As I mentioned before I saw Maiden opening for Kiss (Unmasked tour) in 1980, Paul Di Anno on vocals. Excellent opening act, dare I say it: Better than Kiss (in my opinion). IM in Cologne, Germany, in 2020, I'll be there for sure....

The thing with this, and I know I'm gonna sound like that 'anal' Maiden fan... But a big thing with old school Maiden fans is that there's tons of great 80s material that has either NEVER been played live, or not being played since. At least two songs from every 80s album would make for a really interesting setlist... And you mentioned Ancient Mariner being played too much?... It's been played only once since 1987. It's a huge fan favourite. Yes. Some songs, especially from TNOTB are overplayed. Maybe The Trooper and FOTD too... Replace those with stuff like Total Eclipse, The Duellists, Back In The Village, Sea Of Madness, Stranger In A Strange Land, Infinite Dreams and Only The Good Die Young and you'd have a very excited audience... Oh. Adrian did 80 to 89. Janick did 90 to 99. Both together from 99. Same amount of time. 👍

Could you say that Iron Maiden and Metallica are the two biggest metal bands in the world? As far as album sales, tour sales, merchandise, longevity, etc. As for first era Bruce, I think Fear of the Dark is their weakest, with the title track really being the only good song. And second era Bruce, my least fave is actually Book of Souls. In my opinion, that could have been one album. With A Matter of Life and Death being the strongest I think!! Paschendale saved Dance of Death and I really liked Final Frontier, except for the art! When The Wild Wind Blows and Starblind are epic!

I agree with most things.. But Fear of the Dark is a very good song, no way it's gonna be on the top of the list of their songs. Almost every song of their first 7 albums is better than FOTD.
