The more extreme fans for these games are pretty bad about gate keeping. They would prefer you not experience these games at all, rather than experience them remastered or remade. I am not a fan of Bloober at all- I think they’re a trash game developer with pretty solid artists. But an artist can’t just make the same game again. Something has to change, whether it’s graphics, story, gameplay… SH2 is another example of a game that is SO ingrained in nostalgia that a remake is NEVER going to live up to expectations. So they might as well do something unique with it.
@sunderlandspook18752 жыл бұрын
Yeah I feel ya but at that point, why not get them to create something new instead of making changes to a game that is so beloved? I’m okay with them changing aspects of the gameplay because besides the “Everyman” angle, nothing will really be lost. But the story or the meanings of puzzles is a different, well, story, because of how important SH2’s narrative was for gaming as an industry and on an individual player level.
@el-duderino9752 жыл бұрын
Or fuck, how about a remake of the first game? So many people who have played 2, 3 and 4 have never experienced 1. SH2 doesn't need a remake because what Team Silent created can never be recreated. I think there's so much more you could do with SH1 visually and psychologically.
@DMCMaster5502 жыл бұрын
It's not that we'd prefer people not experience the games, it's that we'd prefer the industry, actually do a better job of preservation. Instead, it's fans who have to keep these games alive, but publishers are also so greedy with their IPs, they'd never let fans do something like Synapse or Criterion does with film. If it's never going to live up to expectations, then why do it at all? You don't repaint the Mona Lisa to do something unique, you leave the art as is.

That's not gate keeping. If that is gate keeping then you should blame konami for gatekeeping as they are the ones who failed to supply the games remasters or rereleases in any decent manner. Fans of the game demanding no graphical glitches or meaningless changes is not a big ask. That's not gate keeping. That's just the fans going "Who the fuck pissed on this table!?" No the game will fall short not because of nostalgia but because rereleasing a game like sh2 is a big ask. You can do so with a game like RE berceuse the cruz of its story is "zombie virus. kill" while SH2 is a web of interconnected themes, symbolism and psychology all rolled into one. RE2 may have complexity to it but the complexity is sort of more supplemental, you could avoid a lot of it and still get the apocalypse atmosphere its selling. While with SH2 you can't do that. Everything that is or isn't there wobbles the web and when such a thing is plucked right it becomes and instrument of story telling but when played wrong it comes off as disjointed and filled with holes. The fans who experienced a higher quality telling of the game are of course going to compare it. That's just life, you do that with literally everything you do . The only way a remaster of sh2 might work is if they do EVERYTHING possible to make sure the symbolism, plots and story remain fully intact but redesign and reapproach the combat system. It was always silent hill 2 weakest aspect, even if you like tank controls it was too easy to amass health items and ammo in silent hill 2 and I say that as a one of those purity "Only 3 existed" fans of the SH series. I think also elongating and adding some additional segments might be good too. One monster that got a bit underutilized was those Mandarins (the guys who climbed about underneath you constantly) for example.

I have a little more faith in Bloober. Silent Hill 2 has a blue print that can really map out how to take the story and how to present it. The argument made that Silent Hill 2 is "fine wine" and needs nothing changed is something I completely disagree with. Theres is strong theming, audio direction, and a great plot twist that all hold up but the combat is really primative, the concept of running through samey looking hallways and check boxing every single door to gain a heading doesnt lend itself in any way to the strengths of the game. There is ALOT they could do while still keeping it focused as a survival horror game.

@Shesez Yo I am blown away that you checked out my video and left a comment. I have been a fan for ages and love your out of bounds videos. I guess where I am coming from is that I don't believe SH2's gameplay is dated. Sure, if we compare it to modern titles, of course SH2 would play "worse." But instead of remakes, I am more interested in preservation. Gaming is one of the only mediums where media is stuck on older platforms and companies don't really prioritise making their back catalogue accessible. Instead of just releasing these games onto newer systems, the first reaction is to always remaster or remake them because of this idea that games are "dated" and should be "improved." While the original games are left to rot on systems within a second hand market that heavily inflates prices due to inaccessibility. And my "fine wine" comment wasn't meant to come across as though I believe SH2 has absolutely no faults. It 100 per cent has problems. I completely agree with the issues that you spoke about. But these faults aren't something that players can't adjust to and the idea that these games are unplayable within the modern landscape because they are old and have these faults is also incorrect. I just wished that companies, such as Konami, weren't so quick to remake games and instead rereleased the originals so people can experience these works of art, as they were and with all their problems or clunky mechanics. I have spoken to so many people and have seen numerous discussions of people new to the franchise who fall in love with each game despite their flaws. I guess what I am trying to say is that I just don't want these games to be available as they were released to a newer audience and so that they can be preserved.

Masahiro Ito has said that, if he were to work on a new silent hill he would step away from the grime, gore, and blood. Instead he would do his horror with Sakura trees/ Sakura’s. So it does seem pretty legit for the new SH. You have perfectly said my worries / gripes with these leaked pictures. I am worried that they will be like, “Oh I’m broken and hurt inside I hate myself,” kinda thing which takes away from the horror of SH. I do think that it shouldn’t be too hard to remake SH2 even tho it doesn’t need one. The episodic series I am very interested in as well! I hope that it will have that Telltale/ Until Dawn feel to it and that the stories will be unique and interesting (Unique monsters for every character and multiple endings).

I completely forgot about Ito allegedly working on this project! It makes a LOT more sense visually with him behind the helm. But I hope that “I hate myself” image is just an internal thing meant to convey the stories themes to other artists or those working on the story. Which would kinda explain why it’s so on the nose. But there’s still a chance, considering all the other images and how on the nose they are, that the game won’t be subtle at all.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think Bloober can pull it off. Their entire catalogue is nothing but horror games, obviously they are passionate for the genre and have the talent to make it happen. Yes, they aren't without their issues, which development studio doesn't. But I can see how having such an iconic IP in their hands will make them step up their game, because they DO understand how to create atmosphere in their games. Boycotting ideas of a remake/who might be making the remake BEFORE they are even officially announced is reductive and possibly even destructive in a creative process. The only thing I've ever wanted is for the name Silent Hill to live on. Its been lost in the ether for too long. I welcome the possibility of new thoughts and ideas, the creative space in the Silent Hill universe is practically limitless. Nostalgia is a beautiful thing, but it can also be limiting if we cant accept change

Unfortunately the problems with Bloober team stem from their mishandling of mental health issues and blatant plagiarism and misunderstanding of other peoples' art, which are all really dangerous when going into a game like SH which is about mental health issues and unique design facets. @WildPotatoIndustries2 жыл бұрын
And I said unto the internet "I really hope Kojima doesn't make a SH game, he doesn't seem like a good fit considering his self indulgent writing and distinct lack of subtly", and as if by some devine will, a finger on the severed monkey's paw curled... and Bloober Team stepped in. Honestly, it's actually kinda hilarious, because it's probably one of the worst case scenarios one could ask for, given Bloober's really bad depictions of folks with mental health issues, but at the same time, the fact they are being given such a large platform to potentially express those views is really not funny. Out of the three though, I think I am most interested in "New" Silent Hill game, though cautiously. More than anything I am interested in seeing what Masahiro Ito is doing with it. Ito said he was largely sick of the standard rust and gore style of the series (tbh, I am too) and was interested in exploring new, more visually striking style of horror inspired by "Cherry Blossoms Trees", and that concept art he made seems like a realized version of that, so I am curious how that will be. But other than that, for as much as I liked some of the Silent Hill games, I'd much rather it stay buried. Sometimes dead is better, and I really feel like the brand itself would weigh down any horror game attached to it than do anything to aid or uplift it, much like what happened with Shattered Memories. There have been great games since Silent Hill that have tackled similar themes (imho some have done it better, like Red Candles work), and they are given a lot more freedom to explore new avenues as they aren't attached to a series that is pretty set-in-stone in ways that other survival horror games are not (which is probably why RE and even Fatal Frame outlived SH). What I am looking forward to is Toyama and co.'s Slitterhead! Man still has ideas and style, and I am excited to see him tackle something a bit different than the stuff he is known for (outside of Gravity Rush) and doing some off beat action horror in a really cool, Kowloon setting! Anyways, sorry for the long ass ramble and any typos along the way. Glad to hear ya' share your thoughts and I hope you are doing well!

I don't understand why people blindlessy defend SH2 like it cannot be remastered. Don't get me wrong, I love the story, but you have to take off your nostalgia glasses and look at the game critically. The controls and the camera movement, the graphics, the combat system and enemy AIs, even the sounds are quite frankly outdated by now (excluding Yamaoka's beautiful soundtrack). Sure, they were great in 2001. But you have to understand it's not 2001 anymore. As a younger fan and having discovered the franchise just a few years ago, all those clunky controls and pixelated graphics unfortunately take away some of the immersion I would've loved to experience. I would really appreciate a *properly* done remake, like the RE2 remake Capcom crafted. A remake where the current technological achievements that weren't available 20 years ago would be utilized while still keeping the original vision the designers and art directors had at Team Silent back in 2001. I just see that the game's execution has not reached its full potential experience-wise, especially for people my age. Retro-gaming is a different subject in my opinion.

Full stop, don't play The Medium: It's not worth it, it'll just make you upset. But for the rumours... If any of these are real (which I honestly have my doubts about, not sold on any of these being real yet) bloober making the first person new SH seems the most plausible. Thing that resonated most is how depicting extremely touchy subject matter is a fine line to walk, mostly because of the idea that hack writers can just make a nothing character, write the most upsetting, traumatic backstory for them they can imagine, then just expect the audience to find it brilliant. It's just writing a tragic backstory with a name, which the worst stories like this are guilty of. Don't expect to buy any of them myself, just out of general lack of interest, but honestly I can't help but find the idea of bloober team remaking SH2 the most morbidly interesting. The fact that Silent Hill 2 which does not need a remake gets a remake just because it's the most popular game in the franchise speaks a lot about Konami. It's the same kind of mentality they had when releasing Silent Hill HD Collection (which turned out to be garbage) and including only botched versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3 while omitting SH1 and SH4 despite all four games being beloved classics developed by Team Silent. For what I can remember their reasoning for that was ''SH4 wasn't popular with the fans so let's just leave it out''. They pulled that information out of their asses and just rolled with it. And here we are today, SH1 getting pulled aside despite the fact that its remake would make much more sense since the graphics have inarguably aged. Despite these graphics being a part of the atmoshpere of the game originally, I do believe one could find a way to still keep the game as close to the original as possible with the graphics update. But that would require actual care and time, like restoring an old painting. The way Konami has been treating these games is both disgusting and disrespectful to the games themselves, their original developers and fans. I do not want any remakes as I don't trust Konami or Bloober Team to give it justice, nor do I feel any remakes necessary. The only ones who could potentially pull it off would be Team Silent themselves, or at least their core members, who still work at Konami, but no, Konami prefers to outsource Silent Hill to a third party. So sad.

But on a side note...to me fixed camera/dynamic cinematic cameras with controls that don't emphasize combat (doesn't have to be tank controls, SH never used tank controls and it worked)...are the best way to design a survival horror game and I think it's about time we get an official game that honors the originals.

I hope they take the, the town makes you confront your demons approach, like silent hill 2 instead of just the cult. With references in passing to events with the cult, places, and people of the past games. I'm hoping for a moderate combat system that feels like you're a normal person but gives you the chance to fight back instead of just running. I'm not a fan of the game play of pt and just want ro avoid it.

The new one is my number 1. But if it's just a teaser I'm not gonna be as thrilled. Number two is the short stories, I hope if they take the walk approach that they end up more like Until Dawn than Blair Witch. Then last is the SH2 remake. I'm not too thrilled on changing anything in such a great game.

For the new "mainline" SH, I just don't know about that. Don't know if it will be good AT ALL, what I do know is that it WON'T be better than my game but that's just me.

A remake of the original Silent Hill games would introduce younger people to Franchise. If they do it the same way Capcom did with the RE 2 remake I think it will be good. But we'll just have to see.

I mean, she looks like a teen so the whole diary appearing in her face with the "i hate myself" thing is kinda ok. I doubt is going to be a cringefest if the developers are japanese (before somebody screams "weabooo" just look at other western developers like ubisoft)

I only have one thing to say.... You can't make Maria's cutscenes better, you just can't, can't do anything with them, remake them in the game engine or make these photorealistic will always screw these cutscenes up... Maybe, MAYBE, redo these cutscenes with real peoples/real life movies... But the cast has to be just perfect... Nope, you just can't make these cutscenes better or at least just as good, period.

Eh tbh the first screenshot is exactly as cringe as "For me it's always like this" from SH2. The difference is that because you care about Angela it feels appropriate. That's why we shouldn't judge by the leaks, they aren't curated. Also the sticky note hallway is basically that one classroom in SH3 where Alessa's desk is covered with pretty much the same stuff scribbled all over it

Why doesn't Konami let Japanese developers make a Silent Hill game? And no, having a musician and a has-been artist who worked on the games and are Japanese doesn't not make the game Japanese.

Sh fans" we want a new game that is lore loyal or ports that don't change the game story but is enhanced on graphics and to be able to buy the original games and not have to pirate it or go to fing narnia to buy a copy" konami and buddies" we can give you life is strange with sh texture pack, take it or leave it". Bruh what makes this games soo good is that they were made with the perfect engine and delivered at the right time, this games are good bc visually the engine enhances that dark and spooky enviroment, it is hard to find a good horror game in actual times, sh games are perfect the way they are, i totally agree that they should allow us to buy the old games, port them. Konami has forgotten that there are more games besides metal gear. Grew with this games, i just hope they don't make PH woke or else i will fucking kill myself.

There were 2 Top Tier SH games. 1 and 2. 3 wasn't bad. The other...13? 14? They stink. Might be time to let the series die, as the last truly great one was 21 years ago.

Why does it matter so much to people if a game is remastered? If it sucks the old one still exists. I just listened to a dude complain about how offended he is about a remaster as id he was the one who made the original.
@collinsorenson21512 жыл бұрын
i think it has more to do with the potential that the remake could have had. If it ends up being bad then it will kill the franchise and we loose out on a chance to get another great horror game.

Let’s be honest it going to be another pachinko machine. XD, seriously silent hill 1 on ps1 need a facelift, shattered memories is cool and all with a psychological choices but it wasn’t great as the the first 3 games in the series
@WILDTHYME0002 жыл бұрын
yeah, not a fan of bloober team remaking SH2 or making any psychological horror game for that matter considering how they mis-handled the story of medium. And i 100% agree with you that konami should instead release the games for modern consoles so that they can have a wide audience or something. The Silent Hill episodic game does sound interesting. I do like more story based games like the Telltale series, so that could be interesting. I just hope that they all don't end with "It was all in there head" nonesense that made me really hate Little Hope. Ugh... I don't like the whole "look how damage I'am you guys. Isn't effed up how damage I am?" approach to horror. That's why i loved Silent Hill 2 and 3 so much, cus they didn't explicitly told you upfront that Angela was abused or Claudia wolf was too. They hinted at it through the files and news papers that something terrible happened there and they took extra care as to not let that just be their character, at least from my point of view. At the one hand, I'm glad that we're getting more Silent Hill games, but on the other hand, I'm sorta dreading it too lol. I guess i'm just gonna remain cautiously optimistic for now, If these rumors end up being true anyways.

I expect the game with the coloured girl to be shallow if they had to write her problems on her face. Heather was cool because they were tasteful showing teenage girl realising she became sexual object in eyes of men with power and someone to be brought down by oppressive jealous women. Here we have "internet people bad" stupidity, at best she stabbed someone or something basically less tasteful Angela and Eddie in one. With remake, well they will mess James's face, make it look evil like in dead by daylight instead of hazed, bet the actual fog will not look good either but if they don't fuck with the story, make characters sound normal even when they are all not and make it a slasher the game would be good. If the girl is from eposodic game it will be literally "life is silent" if she's not, i have hope for the episodic game, at least few episodes.

Sh2 director's cut had 2 more endings then the previous version, i don't see why there can't be more. Ofc most of us would prefer for konami to just release original game on steam or gog, but let's not pretend like we can't get out dirty hands on them. Let artists create art, since you already has your own favorite version of the game that speaks to you. New games are not made for you, but for younger people who got their own set of experiences. Also i hope you ok, since in water your favorite ending.

Bloober team are a bunch of hacks. Team Silent nailed it and they managed to amazingly make something original, even with its references. Bloober? They're trashy. Japan needs to make more survival horror games. I loathe that art leak. I loath what the concept art that supposedly Masahiro Ito made. No offense Ito, but your newest art sucks. A massive far cry from the amazing art direction of the original games. This is a personal thing but man...I don't think it's good. Maybe if it was a Japanese team making the game, it would be passable? But no, we have a overpowered European/Western videogame team who hacked and ripped off stuff and made games for the woke generation of gamers. So what do I think? Japan? You need to get back to making amazing original Triple A survival horror. With Japanese teams. It's not hard. Good video by the way dude. Thanks for bringing this to light because it's honestly a stupid idea.

I agree the new leaked photos are super cringe but I don't like like the vibe they give off/art direction at all. The graphics don't look that great at all to me, like a standard PS4 game.. They don't even give me a horror vibe it just looks like some art made by a emo teenage girl
